Searching for a Hero

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Michael DiBari

Who? Where? When? What and WHY? That's how Jimmy Olsen learned journalism from crusty editor Perry White. Naturally, even as a child, I had to wonder why seasoned journalists, even with glasses on, couldn't see that Clark Kent looked exactly like the hero of all that was "truth, justice and the American way," Superman himself. But, being a child I suspended reality and thought that if Superman's alter ego was a journalist that, hey, that may be a noble calling.

I'm being asked to suspend reality again. Who? Gannon/Guckert. Where? In the White House. When? For more than two years. What? A gay male prostitute, using a false name, with no creditable journalistic experience (even Jimmy Olsen knew you had to work your way up) has gained access to a coveted spot in White House briefings and numerous scoops even seasoned reporters couldn't get. Why? Why indeed. Not only why, but also how? How did someone of this caliber come to be allowed to take the spot of a real journalist? How did he get past even the lowest of security checks? Hello? FBI? CIA? Secret Service? We don't know.

From Gannon/Guckert and all that was Talon News, from its so-called editor on up the White House itself, Gannon/Gurkert has become a ghost, only living on the ethereal reaches of the "bloggers" universe, who, as it happened, were the first to see that, "even with glasses on," Jeff Gannon, outlandishly partisan fake reporter by day, was in fact Jim Guckert, $200 an hour gay hooker by night.

But then again no one in the noble profession seems to be asking.

I know there is no Superman, but I wonder ... where are the Perry Whites? You see, there will be no official investigation to answer these questions. All three branches of the government are in the firm control of the Republican Party. If there isn't a Perry White out there, these questions will never be answered. So much for truth, justice and the American way.
