The Emperor Has No Clothes
A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION
by Robert Millman
On inauguration day, I protest the policies and record of George W.
Bush for the following reasons:
- The Iraq war was based on unfounded and
now patently false claims of an imminent threat.
- Afghanistan’s President
Karzai is essentially the Mayor of Kabul and Afghanistan is now
a Narco-State run by regional warlords.
- Bush environmental policies are
all designed to benefit the business interests of polluters.
- The permanent
tax cuts disproportionately favor the wealthy and have been accompanied
by the largest federal deficits in American history.
- No child left
behind has had the opposite effect and encourages more regulation,
more testing, more Federal control, and more cheating
on the part of schools trying to meet Federal requirements at any
cost.
- The
President’s plan to "save" Social Security calls for borrowing
one trillion dollars. He claims this will help Americans save. Borrowing
is not the same as saving, ask anyone.
In sum, President Bush’s policies
are based on deception, a bait and switch marketing of ideology that
damages United States citizens.
Remembering
a childhood fable that now seems appropriate, I am here to declare
on Inauguration Day that THE EMPORER HAS NO CLOTHES.
