Of, by and for god?

Dear BuzzFlash,

I didn't vote for a "government of, by, and for God," did you? I grew up believing this was supposed to be a "government of, by, and for the people." The people includes all religious faiths and all non-religions as well. Remember that great "melting pot" we were taught about in school? That sounded very noble to me. Everyone was represented. "Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses." That's what the United States was founded on. But now the Bush gang wants to turn us into a "faith based" christian nation. First of all, that is in clear violation of the U.S. constitution and the presidential oath of office. Secondly, if I wanted to live in a theocracy I'd move to Iran. That's what "theocracy" looks like, and I sure don't want that, do you? But beyond that, I find it a little ironic that the same people who want to put the ten commandments up all over America are breaking every commandment! Let's take the sixth commandment, "Thou shalt not kill." Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead and nearly 1,500 Americans dead, I'd say Bush has broken that one for sure! Not to mention the fact that he didn't lift a finger to save any of the people being massacred in the Sudan, and is through donating to the tsunami victims.

But there's always plenty of money for war isn't there? In fact, from the Iraq War to "The Terminator" to "The Passion of the Christ," the Bush crowd seems to just love violence. The more the better...and don't mess with their gun rights either! Now, that's a real example of the teachings of "The Prince of Peace," isn't it? They must have missed the part where it says "Violence begets violence," or "He who lives by the sword dies by the sword."

And how about Abu Ghraib and the impending confirmation of Alberto Gonzales? So much for the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." It's pretty obvious Bush supporters don't ascribe to that one. They seem to think torture of Muslims is just fine, because "They aren't like us." I guess they also missed the part in the bible where Jesus said, "Love thy enemy." Then they wonder why they hate us.

And then there's all this denigration of the "hollywood elite." Funny that the GOP's favorite politicians are Ronald Reagan, B actor, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, one of the most successful Hollywood stars ever. Sounds like Republicans love the "Hollywood elite" as long as they're Republicans.

Then we've got this bringing "morality" and "integrity" back to the white house line, no doubt being exemplified by the shining example of house speaker, Tom DeLay, a man who tried to get rid of ethics rules rather than abide by them. As a devout christian, he must be saying a lot of prayers these days... "Please, lord, don't let them catch me lying, cheating, and stealing from the people!"

And then, of course, there's this condemnation of "trial lawyers." Are they the same lawyers that helped George Bush to skirt the rights of the voters and simply get the supreme court to "select" him president? How about we ask Bush to get rid of his whole staff of white house lawyers and see how far we get with that!

And, then there's the seventh commandment, "Thou shalt not commit adultery." That's a good one. The list of Republican adulterers is about as long as the New York Telephone directory! Remember good old Newt Gingrich and Bob Barr, and the resignation of Bob Livingston? In fact, when it comes to morals, I'll put mine up against theirs any day of the week. I'd have to work overtime to be that corrupt and immoral, and I'm not going to do that because George Bush took away my overtime pay!

If these guys truly lived what their religion taught, it might not be so bad. But the truth is, they don't really care about these things. They only worship two things...money and power, which, by the way, is a clear violation of the third commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me!" And anything that gets in the way of their crusade for wealth and power will be destroyed...including the constitution, freedom, democracy, the planet and its people.

Don't be fooled. It's time for the people to regain control of this government or this great democratic experiment will be over. No nation can survive if its leaders are only interested in their own wealth and power. Eventually it will drown in its own arrogance and greed. If that's "christian," you can have it!
