Shouldn't We Expect More From a President?

"The Best Way To Avoid The Draft Is To Vote For Me" -- George W. Bush

Well, Mr. Bush, I guess that nothing beats experience.

You did say it properly yesterday: "After standing on the stage, after the debates, I made it very plain we will not have an all-volunteer army."

Freudian? I don't think so. Perhaps it is Bush's atrophied conscience, yearning to speak the truth.

As in: "Some people have too much freedom."

Or in: "If this were a dictatorship it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator."

Or: "We've wanted so many wars, and we didn't get them. And we've wanted this one for years."

Why do so many, led by newpapers such as the Chicago Tribune which are endorsing Bush, shrug their shoulders and say, "Oh, it's just Bush. We all know he can't speak. We all know he's not the brightest crayon in the box."

How did we reach this point, where half the country thinks it's okay to have an inarticulate boob as commander-in-chief and our representative on the world stage?

Shouldn't a president be an extraordinary person, not someone who mangles language and is incapable of thinking outside the script? Why are there so many who believe that Bush's being an idiot is perfectly fine, positive, and not at all dangerous, because they can "relate" to his numerous flaws?

Good God!
