Unsolicited Advice for John Kerry

There’s one last chance for a face-to-face with gwb and so it is imperative that you take it to him! I suggest the following counters to his attacks:

When he says, "You can run, but you can’t hide," you counter, "Mr. President, you showed us on 9/11 that it is possible to do both."

When he chides you for saying, "I voted for the 87 billion before I voted against it," you counter, "No appropriations you requested were ever denied yet troops were sent into battle without the best equipment available despite your repeated promises that you would never do that! If I had had my way, the troops would come before Dick Cheney’s friends at Halliburton."

When he talks about your missed votes in the Senate, you say, "The record clearly shows that you’ve taken more vacation time than any other modern President. You’ve hardly been at the White House what with your trips to Crawford and Camp David and with all the fundraisers and campaign stops. In fact, you had just come off a month-long vacation when we were attacked. I can’t help but wondering if you had been more engaged in your job in August of 2001, whether the world would be a much different place today."

When he says, "He saw the same intelligence I saw," you reply, "But did I see all of the intelligence that you saw? And what about the caveats and concerns of intelligence professionals that didn’t make their way into the reports you provided to Congress? And what about the Presidential Daily Briefings? You know, the ones with a "historical" perspective with mundane titles such as "OBL Determined to Strike In U.S. Do you still insist that you got "darn good" intelligence or are you resolutely and steadfastly blaming the intelligence community for the prevarications about WMD’s?"

When he talks about your 20-year record in the Senate recite the following about his 4 years in office and what happened on his watch:

Energy companies colluded and conspired to defraud the people of California and apparently neither you nor the vice-president grasped the situation or elected to ignore it and the federal government was slow if not recalcitrant to enforce the law and protect American citizens. How is it that two "energy professionals" were not able to see that the shortage was manipulated? Now, I’m not saying that you and Mr. Cheney were in on the planning, but you both insisted that "market forces" would resolve the crisis and one has to wonder how you could get it so wrong."

You talk about home ownership, but fail to mention the record number of foreclosures and personal bankruptcies.

You talk about job creation but never mention that 150,000 new jobs are needed just to break even with the increase in the labor force. So your 1.9 million new jobs over the last 13 months actually is a deficit of 50,000 jobs.

Someone within your administration revealed the identity of a deep-cover CIA agent yet you never launched an internal investigation nor has this traitor’s identity been revealed. Doesn’t possible treason warrant more concern on your part?

BTW, how are your good pals Ken Lay and Ahmed Chalabi?
