Bob Dole's Hypocrisy, Available On His Web Site

A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION
by Steve Heilman

Dear Buzz:

Below you will find a link to a current page on Bob Dole's official web site. Displayed on this page is a recent Wall Street Journal editorial written by Dole that completely contradicts his recent attack on Senator Kerry.

http://www.bobdole.org/issues/article.php?id=2

Direct quotes from that editorial:

"It should be incumbent upon presidential candidates to disavow accusations that have no proof or substance behind them."

"Sen. Kerry is a war hero, but if campaigns were about war records, I would have won easily in 1996."

"Campaigns are about issues, and the candidates of both parties owe the American people a compelling vision for the future of America."

Please alert your faithful readers to this blatant Dole hypocrisy and "flip-flopping." He called Kerry "a war hero" for goodness sake!

Printed below is the email I sent Senator Dole on his web site:

Dear Senator Dole:

Although I have never been a supporter of the Republican party and have not held many GOP leaders in very high esteem, I always have had a personal respect for you.

Like you, I was raised in Kansas and attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Being one of your Kansas constituents, I have known about (and have had great admiration for) your military service to our country as long as I can remember.

That is why I am so disappointed with your recent comments about Senator Kerry and your participation in the deplorable smear campaign run by your party's supporters.

As I am writing this email, the following statements are posted in your name on this very web site (in the "On the Issues" section), and I agree with them very much:

"It should be incumbent upon presidential candidates to disavow accusations that have no proof or substance behind them."

"Sen. Kerry is a war hero, but if campaigns were about war records, I would have won easily in 1996. Campaigns are about issues, and the candidates of both parties owe the American people a compelling vision for the future of America."

I am sorry that you have chosen to completely contradict your above statements with your recent attack on Senator Kerry. I hope you will rethink your position on this issue and choose to honor your fellow decorated veterans rather than questioning the validity of their medals (and thus dismissing their service to their country).

Sincerely,

Steve Heilman
