Texas-style Torturing Crusaders

I'm wondering how those Texas prisoners -- er -- "detainees" way back in 1996 could have been a threat to our troops in Iraq?

Could it be that then-Texas Governor George Bush's prison guards were possibly under orders from the same "contractors" as those assigned to Iraq to "coach" our week-end warriors on their special guard detail?

"The incident occurred in a 1996 raid at the Brazoria County Detention Center in Texas. Guards searching the facility were videotaped mistreating prisoners. The images have many of the same elements of the Abu Ghraib pictures — prisoners lying on the floor, being dragged and menaced by dogs.

It might now be just a historical footnote, except the lawyer who represented two of the prison guards accused of attacking the inmates, Guy Womack, is now representing Spc. Charles Graner, the prison guard accused of mistreating prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq" - excerpt

And would those busloads of "detainees" that just now being released from Abu Ghraib still be in there if it hadn't been for those recently banned digital cameras? ....

Next time you get a chance, hand deliver a copy of the following petition to your favorite place of worship or just ask your pastor to circulate it amongst their congregation. Also consider e-mailing or faxing it to other spiritual leaders in your area and specifically request them to ask their congregation to sign it. Don't forget to ask for a response to your request (will they or won't they, and when can you ask for it back to send it on), and let them know that your local media may well want to report which local religious leaders are outraged by Bush's policy of torture and abuse of war prisoners, and which just don't care.

“We, the undersigned citizens of the United States, affirm the international cooperation, universal humanitarian principles, and human rights law that arose from the ashes of World War II, thanks to the unprecedented national sacrifice and service of a generation of Americans.

We call upon President George W. Bush to honor that legacy by rededicating our nation to the Geneva Conventions, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a framework of law that protects the lives and dignity of civilians, prisoners of war, and wounded combatants – including the Iraqi people and our men and women serving today in Iraq.”
