Twin Evils Who Profit From Each Other

A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION

Dear BuzzFlash:

I often wonder about the gullibility of the average American. Will voters see through the Republican leadership? Republican leaders wave the flag, thump the Bible and tell us who to fear and hate. These three little tricks get pulled over and over again to distract us so they can reach into our wallets and steal our money for corporations.

They care less about God than they care about using him. They care less about the country than they do about how it can be exploited by corporations. They care less about average Americans than they do about how to divide them up against each other for easier control. They wrap themselves in religion, family values and patriotism while rigging elections and voting machines (see Florida, blackboxvoting.com, Vanity Fair, etc).

Powerful interests have always affected policy and influenced government leaders, but never in our history has it occurred on such a massive scale. Republican corporate and political bosses assert greater control over key institutions -- education, religion, broadcasting and publishing -- as well as government.

We knocked back communism and escaped rule by socialist bureaucrats only to land under the feet of corporate lords with an equally controlling agenda. Like the coalition between Baptists and bootleggers, the White House and terrorists need each other. The terrorists give the Bush administration a politically convenient platform for hate mongering and control by fear. By promoting a corporate agenda that exploits anyone it can, the Bush administration gives religious zealots in the Middle East exactly what they need for recruiting. Everyone else on both sides, caught in the middle of this power game, suffers. The world would be better off without the terrorists and without the Bush administration's corporate agenda. Both influences are parasitical. Both philosophies are evil in that the ends justify the means.

Americans who wish to promote the cause of freedom must join with others around the world who share our traditional values of liberty and justice for all. People must find a way to reject the twin evils of corporate rule and religious zealotry. It takes a combination of trust, peace and liberty to overcome hate and control.

The road to hell is no longer paved with good intentions. It is paved with Republican corporate leaders and Muslim extremists. Both sides of this insane feud intend that we should all follow them.
