World Leaders Rush to Voice Support for Bush? Not.

The White House can accuse John Kerry about lying all day long, but I doubt they'll be able to find one single world leader willing to say their preference is to see Bush remain in office.

Bush's attempt this morning to create the appearance of support of world leaders backfired when put the Prime Minister of the Netherlands on the spot. Happily, the PM, Jan Peter Balkenende, refused to take the bait.

When the press raised the question of Kerry's assertion that the world is eager to see Bush replaced, Bush said, "I think it's -- if you're going to make an accusation in the course of a presidential campaign, you ought to back it up with facts." [WhiteHouse.gov transcript]

At that, Bush tossed the ball to Prime Minister Balkenende who immediately dropped it, saying, "I won't talk about that issue. It has to do with the campaign here in the United States."

Ewwww. Harsh.
