Powell Prefers Pimping Poseur President's Preemptive Policy Propaganda

A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY
by One Citizen

What does Colin Powell really think about Bush's military record?

"I am angry that so many of the sons of the powerful and well-placed managed to wangle slots in the Army Reserve and National Guard units... Of the many tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as the most damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal and owe equal allegiance to their country." - Colin Powell, in his autobiography "My American Journey"

Of course that was published long before he got called to serve up in the Fortunate Son's W-house. More recently Powell admonished Rep. Brown. (D-Ohio) by snarling "Let's not GO there!" during a Capitol Hill hearing when Mr. Brown mentioned Bush's Vietnam military record.

Although most print reports don't reflect it, his "Don't go there!" was delivered with as much fire and conviction as any Klingon warrior could have mustered. Why couldn't our Secretary of State have just used those same words in front of the U.N. Security Council instead of that bogus song-and-dance presentation headlining Hussein's pre-war wmd capabilities?

Rep. Brown appeared to have been browbeaten into backing down on his AWOL assertion at the time by the ferocity of Powell's delivery, under the circumstances it was Powell's veracity that suffered the most.

Watching his knuckles turn white at the mention of his CEO's military service immediately brought to mind Harry Belafonte's description of Mr. Powell's relationship with his BossMan.

Whether or not Dubya was "officially" AWOL isn't really even the point. After all, the release of his military records show beyond all doubt that our self-proclaimed "wartime president" joined the Texas Air National Guard specifically to dodge the Vietnam war.

For all his speechifying about "military readiness" and his macho challenge to "Bring 'em ON!", our "wartime President" apparently checked himself right out of any personal military confrontation when he had the chance.

So why wasn't the Media into Bush's military records before he launched his personal "Crusade" against the world's fundamentalist Muslim population?

"John Allen Muhammad, convicted last November for his participation in the D.C. sniper shootings, served in the Louisiana National Guard from 1978-1985, where he faced two summary courts-martial. In 1983, he was charged with striking an officer, stealing a tape measure, and going AWOL. Sentenced to seven days in the brig, he received an honorable discharge in 1985."-- The New Republic, 2/12/04
