No News is Good News

A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY
by Andy Grainger

Well, it's happened. For two or three days now, the American media has shut down on Iraq. No attacks, no American casualties, no nothing. Everything is fine. The war is apparently on hold until the election, lest bloodied bodies and burning humvees mar the coronation of Citizen George. I feel badly for those poor GI's whose loss will not be mentioned on CNN and Fox. I actually predicted this inadvertently in a parody piece on DeadBrain.com It's at http://deadbrain.com/news/article_2004_01_07_5748.php if you want to read it. I thought I was joking.

And now the news. In Iraq, there were at least a dozen attacks in the past few days. The U.S. military said a roadside bomb Friday exploded in Baghdad, wounding two U.S. soldiers. No further details were released. Insurgents fired a rocket propelled grenade Saturday at a bus carrying Iraqi soldiers west of Baghdad, wounding five of them and a civilian bystander, officials said (The Guardian Feb. 7, 04) Many street demonstrations against the Bremer regime took place. Basic services like hospitals and utilities remain in ruins, but the crude is starting to flow. Infant mortality has risen sharply since the invasion. Janet Jackson says she is sorry about her breast popping out. American Idol starts a new season. Everything is fine.
