Homeland Security: Our Family's Emergency Plan A
BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY Heeding the advice of Homeland Security boss, Tom Ridge, my wife and I have reviewed our family's emergency plan in the light of the current elevated security alert: we are going to work harder than ever to see to it that Howard Dean wins his bid for the White House. Clearly, the current president's war on terror is poorly thought out and misdirected, aimed as it is more at providing investment opportunities in the middle east for his large corporate donors and securing permanent military bases that will insure American leverage over the world's strategic oil reserves. We can no longer afford war by photo-op. No more toppled statues of tin-horn dictators. No more aircraft carrier grandstand plays. No more fake turkeys, No more drugged Saddams in dirty holes, gifts from Kurdish Santas. No more of that, thank you. In the interest of my family's safety we are voting for Howard Dean, a man who seems ready to speak some truth and act in ways that might actually help create a world in which, with the help of our long-standing friends, terrorists will not prosper. We are also going to back Democrats for Congress, new Democrats, ones that actually act like Democrats. No more of those Democrat Leadership Council people for us. Thanks to the DLC types we've seen the Republicans succeed in their relentless attacks on the environment, health care, education, civil liberties, the economy, and more. We are taking your advice, Mr. Ridge — Howard Dean in 2004. And, if Wesley Clark should end up as his running mate, that too would be okay with our family. A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY * * * E.R.
