BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY Hello BuzzFlash and all BuzzFlash readers, I read from your posted link that "Eighty members of Congress have co-sponsored a bill to remove the profile of Franklin Delano Roosevelt from the dime and replace it with the face of Ronald Reagan." WHY!! Don't they have anything better to do !?!? Is it a tribute to 'trickle-down' economics (a.k.a. voodoo economics), in which a dime is about the value that most of us got from each dollar as it trickled down? Is it emblematic of the fact that in the eight years of the two Reagan terms only 70,000 people made their way out of poverty? Compare that with the seven MILLION people who were lifted out of poverty during the eight years of the last elected real President we had, President Clinton. Perhaps it is to commemorate what was, at the time, the record debt that was accumulated thanks to the enormous tax cuts for the wealthy and the unchecked spending that occurred during Ronnie's disastrous tenure (does this sound familiar, people?). So the legacy of FDR should be replaced by that of Reagan! The LAST thing the American public needs, especially with what we have endured the last three years, is a lasting reminder of the legacy of Ronnie Reagan on our legal tender. This is simply another in a long line of efforts by Revisionist Right Wing Republicans to portray Ronald Reagan as something more than he was. They've re-named airports, boulevards, office buildings, bus stops, conference rooms, parks, drinking fountains, fire-hydrants, mail-boxes, dumpsters, garbage cans, latrines, dog-houses, out-houses, bath-houses, and crack-houses in our Nation's capital after Ronnie Reagan in a lame attempt to honor the vaunted symbol of Right Wing Conservativism. Then they hoot and holler about the portrayal of Reagan in a made for TV CBS movie, whining about something they claim he never said, yet they overlook that in his authorized biography, approved by Nancy, he actually made similar statements about behavior and HIV/AIDS that were not that different from what was scripted in the movie! Poor, downtrodden Ronnie. If they really want to put his mug on a coin, slap it on the penny. There's talk that the penny will be obsolete one day anyway, so that would be appropriate. Besides, a penny is about all that this ridiculous idea is worth anyway. What's next, GeeDubya's face on the nickel? Will they put it on both sides?!? Please . . . spare the Dime the indignity.
