A BuzzFlash Reader Remembers JFK: We Need Such A Man Who Is The President For The People And Not The Powerful
To My Fellow Americans,
A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY
As you are all well aware of today, November 22nd, 2003 is the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Pres. John F. Kennedy. His life was ended too soon where he could have done more for all of us as a nation. I often wonder what the landscape of America would look like had he and his brother Bobby lived. But, sadly, we shall never know.
President Kennedy challenged us in so many ways and inspired us as well. He asked through this statement, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" Something that I feel many Americans have forgotten in this time. Or only do so when tragedy strikes such as September 11th. What he meant was for all of us to do this on a consistent basis and that means voting. It also means that we Americans are willing to go the distance into making this country one that is of, for and by the people. It means to me that no one left behind as so many have during these past three years.
He also inspired us by challenging the scientists of that time that in ten years time we would land a man on the moon and we through the American spirit supported that adventure into space. More importantly, we did so. We as a nation need more positive challenges built upon hope, not fear. Where we feel we can, because we have the moral clarity to put forth such actions.
As I was reading an email from a fellow Democratic committee member, he suggested that at 1 PM that those he emailed take a moment in silent meditation and remember him in our own way. So, I am asking all of you to follow his lead and do the same thing. I am asking you to light a candle at that moment in hopes that we can once again find the light in these dark times.
I know that in my moment of silence in tribute to Pres. Kennedy, I will ask God to give us another leader and president just like him. I will say to him that we need such a man who is the president for the people and not the powerful. I will ask him again to send us a president that is of, for and by the people.
Democratically Yours, Mary!
