The
Hypocrisy of Kathleen
Parker
A
BUZZFLASH GUEST COMMENTARY
by Bob Hirschfeld
Dear
Buzz-
The fact that conservative columnist Kathleen Parker altered a quote
that originally stated the Democratic presidential candidates should
be "shot" to the more benign "slapped" shouldn't
be the source of controversy in her November 1st column.
What Ms. Parker deserves to be slapped herself about is the hypocrisy
of the contention of her article. First she quotes a friend spewing
bile and invective at the Democratic candidates. Then she accuses the
Democratic
candidates as being the ones engaging in such venomous attacks and
concludes that "Americans are willing to entertain legitimate criticism and
discussion, but not bile and invective."
So a conservative calling Clark and Kerry "bastards," Dean
an "ass" and Sharpton a "mental midget" and "race
baiter" is legitimate criticism, but if the Democratic candidates
criticize Bush it's labeled "bile and invective."
How can you argue with that?
As a satirist I look for examples of hypocrisy and sometimes they're
just so over the top to begin with, it's beyond lampooning.
