Checked Your "MPG" Lately?

A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY
by One Citizen

It was recently revealed that just 6 months prior to 9/11, at the VP's closed-door Energy Policy Summit in March of 2001, Dick Cheney was planning on carving up Iraq and serving it like it was a side of beef to corporate insiders, many of whom may well have been former business partners. [LINK]

The date of these events may be significant because many folks don't realize that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld pushed to invade Iraq immediately after 9/11, [LINK] although failed to give any specifics as to why he wanted to target Iraq instead of Afghanistan.

Recently the 9/11 committee report revealed that there was NO connection between Hussein, Iraq, or Iraqi weapons or even terrorist financing of the horrible attacks on mainland U.S. in September of 2001. This particular report result was actually not surprising, since it was exactly what the CIA and all of our other intelligence departments were reporting to the Bush Administration, along with France, Germany, and each of the major members of the U.N. Security counsel (with the exception of Great Britain). Even the U.N. weapons inspectors reported that there was no exigent situation warranting the bombing of Baghdad when Bush ordered them out of Iraq.

As it turns out, even Saddam Hussein's own weapons declarations have proved to be more truthful than Bush's State of the Union address by which he urged that we wage an unprecedented "preemptive" war on Iraq.

It appears that the only exception to all of the then-existing reports and evidence was from the ad hoc "special operations" intelligence committee that Rumsfeld had cobbled together in OCTOBER of 2001 (after he told CBS he wanted to go after Iraq) apparently for the purpose of carrying out the VP's "energy" plans from back in March of that same year. [LINK]

Either Rumsfeld's "Special Ops" detail forgot to turn any of its Iraqi evidence over to Congress' ongoing 9/11 probe (which is highly unlikely), or his detail had nothing but bogus information to offer in the first place. On the other hand, it apparently was convincing enough to make Bush's State of the Union speech which resulted in the invasion of Iraq.

Anyway, it just so happens that if the U.N. Security Counsel had actually sanctioned our invasion of Iraq, all of those Gas Oil and Pipeline reps at the VP's Energy Summit would have been forced to competitively bid for their "rebuilding" contracts against France, Germany, and the rest of "Old Europe's" businesses. So invading Iraq without the UN security counsel's approval has cost us dearly in soldier's lives as well as billions of dollars. And the cost will continue unless we're willing to do something about it.

There's no doubt that America loves the SUV. But the cost associated with America's MPG is outrageous. A tune-up just won't do. (see attached).

The best way to get the "MPG" we deserve is a complete overhaul of the existing Energy Policy. The problem is that the only way that will happen is if we replace the entire G.O.P. "Machine".

Happy Motoring!
