The Iraqis Must Wonder if this is Liberation or Hell
A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY Dear Buzz:
This
administration doesn't seem to realize that we could find Saddam Hussein
tomorrow, publicly execute him in the middle of Baghdad and it
still wouldn't make a bit of difference. The Iraqi people would still
hate us. Our soldiers would still die. We came into this country under
false pretenses -- to "liberate" with bombs, to kill innocent
men, women, and children in our great, arrogant patriotic quest to pilfer
oil. We plunged their country into chaos. We could kill Saddam or Osama
tomorrow and a thousand would pop up in their places... and who can blame
them?
Instead, in its typical pathological, bumbling, short-sighted way, this
administration is going after Saddam like a man possessed, convinced
he's the answer. Like someone trying to kill a housefly with a bazooka,
we conduct our raids, kill and terrify more innocent people, wreak more
chaos on this already deeply-wounded country. And yet, we only tighten
the noose around our own neck. Why is this administration's answer always
more violence? We're always one bullet away from a perfect world. If
our leaders want to see the true face of terror, they have only to look
in the mirror. Its truly frightening.
