Don't Give Up The Fight

Dear BuzzFlash Readers,
Every day I read your letters and so many of you seem to be frustrated and frightened about what is happening to our country today. Let me tell you a story.
I live in Washington County, NY. It is the home of Grandmas Moses, and if you are familiar with her paintings, you will get a picture of just how lovely this area is. About 15 years ago a rich, powerful and formidable company, called Browning Ferris Industries came to our little corner of the world and told us we had a garbage problem! They intended to build a 1,500 ton per day garbage burning plant as well as a 600 acre dump to deposit the toxic ash. They intended to import garbage from other areas into our country.
I
remember how frightened I was -- it was as if I were living a nightmare.
How could we fight this powerful
company? Well, guess what. We did, and we won! And
you know what, most of us were working class people
and farmers. The point is we didn't agonize, we
organized!
I have the same sick feeling today in the pit of my stomach as I did 15 years ago when I see the damage that George Bush is doing to our country.
My
point is, if a bunch of farmers and working class people can chase
a formidable company such as BFI out
of our county, then we as citizens of this great
nation can do the same with the Bush administration.
I hope we have a Democratic candidate we can all rally
behind in the next election in an organized fashion,
but in the meantime, I do a little something every day
just to let "them" know I am out here and hopefully
educate others. There is nothing worthwhile in the
media any more, so I spend my time writing letters to
the editor, contacting my senators, sending donations
to worthy grass-roots organizations, boycotting
companies that advertise on Rush Limbaugh, signing
petitions, etc., etc., etc. I hope you do the same.
Keep the faith and don't give up. We may not be as powerful or rich as those in power, but together we CAN change things.
