Who
is Waging Class Warfare? The Republicans, Of Course.
A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY
by Roger Miller
We have been hearing the term "Class Warfare" often since the 2000 election
campaign. Most all references are of a derogatory, accusatory nature
pointed at progressives that object to the legislative "give-a-ways"
to the wealthiest of our country in the way of Federal Income Tax rebates
(both to individuals and corporations that are owned overwhelmingly
by the richest Americans). We also hear it in reference to policy debate
regarding the environment and the economy. Of course, the right-wing supporting American press promotes the view
that those who want to maintain the tax code and other socio-economic
factors in our society that are progressive and beneficial to the mass
of citizens are waging Class Warfare. However, the right-wing base of
the Bush administration is waging Class Warfare against the middle and
lower economic groups in our country and even abroad. The "Operation
Iraqi Freedom" was (and is) a method of waging Class Warfare against
the people of the middle-east, rightful owners of the natural resources
of their region.
The Bush administration has been using the military to preserve access
to and price control of Iraqi oil. When the price and flow of Iraqi oil
is controlled by those companies and executives cozy with the Bush administration,
the rest of the petroleum producing countries will effectively be controlled
by American big business that is very friendly to the Bush Administration
(and they will follow-up with large contributions to the re-election
campaigns of the conservative Republican candidates).
So, it is about time that you and I realize that "Class Warfare" has
been waged for several years by the Republican Party, and it is going
to get even more intense as they fight to restrict legislative efforts
to relax FCC rules on media ownership, Income Tax roll-backs for America’s
wealthiest, to pack the Federal courts with right-wing ideology, bankrupt
the Social Security System, (you’re getting the point, right?).
From the Republican effort to investigate and impeach Bill Clinton to
today’s efforts to limit Senate debate on judicial appointees, Class
Warfare has been waged against the majority of Americans by the conservative
Republican Party. And they figure that "all is fair in War"-just look
at the DBT/ChoicePoint voter purge in Florida (nothing has been remedied
yet), the "smash-mouth" legal tactics that took the disputed 2000 election
to the Supreme Court, the placement and software updates made to "touch-screen"
voting machines in states where key Democratic loses gave Senate control
to the Republicans.
It is necessary (even mandatory) that those of us that are the target
of this Class Warfare find a voice to oppose these actions and enlist
in our own efforts in the Class War that has been raging out of control
for the past eight years or so.
I am enlisting today. Fight the right! Support progressive concepts
and ideals! Fight back! It is now or never!
