Dear Laura Bush, A BuzzFlash Reader Letter

A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY
by Jim Peters

* * *

Mrs. Laura Bush
White House
Washington, DC

April 2, 2003

Dear Mrs. Bush,

For the sake of the world, please seek professional help for your husband. I think he is having delusions. I read in USA Today that he thinks he has been "called by God" to wage this war against Iraq for freedom. What kind of signs is God giving him? What kind of evidence does he have to support this belief? Is he hearing voices in his head?

Mrs. Bush, when you were a teacher, you probably taught children like the two little girls who were decapitated by US soldiers in front of their pregnant mother. You probably helped little girls like them find books in your library. I ask you, what kind of God would call your husband to kill innocent little children like this? What kind of God would whisper in his ear, or give him some other sign, that this was His will? Even your own minister said this war was wrong.

It is too late to help those two dead girls and the other 11 members of her family. But right now, as you read this letter, there is another little girl playing, or more likely toiling, in Iraq, with her family, maybe in a tomato field, or driving home in her family's decrepit truck. Tomorrow, that little girl will be dead, the victim of one of your husband's psychotic delusions. UNLESS you help her now. Please, tell your husband to stop, and if he won't, then please seek professional assistance. You may need to have him involuntarily committed for treatment. I urge you, please, for the sake of your husband, your family, our nation, and the world. Don't sweep his mental illness under the rug any longer. It's time to stop enabling and start confronting. That is the only way you can help him, and as his wife, it is your solemn Christian duty to stand beside him in this time of sickness.

Sincerely,

Jim Peters
