Is Tom Daschle Obstructing an Agenda Favored By Most of the Democratic Party? BUZZFLASH
READER COMMENTARY Dear BuzzFlash, You know its true what the Bushies say about Daschle—he’s an obstructionist. The only thing is, Daschle isn’t an obstructionist blocking the Right Wing’s agenda from making its way to Bush’s desk. He keeps the Democratic agenda from even seeing the light of the Senate floor! The proof is in the pudding. While Tom Daschle was Senate Majority/Minority Leader he made sure the Republicans installed their election stealing President by making a deal to “share power” in the Senate. Daschle made sure Bush got his big tax cut for the wealthy, Patriot Act, Homeland Security, and most importantly he made sure his wife got a multimillion-dollar bailout for the Airline Industry. Using his wishy-washy “I don’t think we have enough votes” rhetoric, our “Democratic” leader also helped prevent an independent investigation into 9-11. Senate investigations into Enron, World Com, Harken Energy and other corporate fraud went nowhere. And please, don’t ever forget how Presidential hopeful, Daschle in collusion with Presidential hopeful, Joe Lieberman decided it would be better for us to “speak with one voice”, and OBSTRUCTED a Filibuster by Democratic Senator Robert Byrd by bringing up and passing Bush’s unconstitutional war resolution in the middle of the night! And it’s odd that Tom Daschle doesn’t seem concerned at all about whom it was that sent him and Patrick Leahy Anthrax spores by the millions. Funny, he nor anyone else for that matter, never say a word about it. At Bush’s SOTU speech while the rest of the Democrats stayed in their seats, our beloved Minority Leader, Tom Daschle, looked like a Jack-in-the-box popping up and down out of his seat! Daschle, like his Republican colleagues across the aisle, found it difficult to hold back his glee and applauded heartedly in support of GW Bush’s lies! So yes BuzzFlash while many were rejoicing, I was deeply disappointed when Daschle decided not to run for President. A grueling undertaking such as running for President would have most likely forced Daschle to resign his position as Senate Minority Leader, opening the door for much stronger leaders such as Dodd. Moreover, a run in a Presidential Primary where Daschle would barely receive a sniff would most likely ruin his political career! Unfortunately for us freedom loving, democracy minded people, Tom Daschle and his “advisors” must have known this too. Maybe it was Karl Rove that advised Tom Daschle it would be better to keep his day job—Senate Obstructionist of a Democratic Agenda.
