You're a smart gal, I've been reading your commentaries for nearly a decade now, since the "Impeach Clinton over the Lewinsky scandal" days in 1998, if I recall.

So I find it painful to have to write this comment, but the answer to your question is staring us in the face -
"Why can't our government treat these Bush GOP criminals, like Rove, Bush, Cheney, Rice, only to name a few, (ladies no exception) as if they were any other citizens "suspected" of crimes?"

The answer is because the AIPAC (Israel) lobby OWNS the Democratic Party. The AIPAC lobby, and Right-Wing Jewish Americans, are the most vociferous supporters of the US wars in Mideast, and police-state powers here in America, in all of America. The _alliance_ of the Northeastern intellectual/academic/("Ivy League")/financial community (Wall St. bankers and brokerage houses) with the traditionally Southern oil billionaires and neo-Segregationist reactionary Right-Wing politicians, is so powerful that it now controls the US press-media (the corporate media) AND our ENTIRE US government - including the ostensibly "Democratic" "OPPOSITION PARTY."

Proof of this is everywhere, and conveniently summed up in one simple article. Pat Buchanan might be a right-wing former Nixon speechwriter ideologue nut, but after 5 decades in Washington politics, he knows who answers to whom, and how much was paid. When your "OPPOSITION PARTY LEADER" (Speaker Pelosi is the _leader_ of the Democratic Party) - is ALLIED with the VERY CORE, WORST ABUSES of the party in power - the ever-EXPANDING WAR POWERS and POLICE-STATE POWERS (i.e. the FISA bill which Pelosi treacherously brought to the floor, slapping millions of Democratic voters in the face, and torture, insider contracts, lies-to-war) YOU NO LONGER HAVE AN OPPOSITION PARTY.

Think that the comparison with Germany's government enabling Hitler to march to war is too extreme, and Buchanan's article is over-the-top? The Republican agenda is clear - ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS START WARS, and then Democrats will be FORCED to "Support the troops" being killed in those wars.

Here is CONFIRMATION that Nancy Pelosi, and thereby the ENTIRE Democratic Party, is SUBSERVIENT to the AIPAC agenda, which is to say THE WORST abuses of the Bush-Cheney administration:

and the very next day, Speaker Pelosi addressed the same audience. Pelosi and Dem. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's speeches at AIPAC last March were bookended by Dick Cheney and Senator Joe Lieberman - the two most vociferous "BOMB IRAN NOW!" politicians in all of America - and Pelosi and Reid were NOT there to douse the flames of EXPANDING US WARS in the Middle East.

In short, Speaker Pelosi, Senator Reid, and the entire top tier of the "Democratic" Party "leadership" IS ROBBING us of a GENUINE OPPOSITION PARTY, AT THE BEHEST OF A FOREIGN GOVERMENT, the Israel/AIPAC lobby.

I have been censored from posting comments to Buzzflash years for noticing this awful state of America's politics - how the Neo-Con New York Times could join Republicans in making major issues out of Dem. minor scandals, while helping Republicans WHITEWASH and ignore major criminal conduct. This reached ABSURD levels, when the Times was able to trumpet the Republican "SELLING LINCOLN BEDROOM!" so-called scandal for weeks on end, to them IGNORING how gay male prostitute Jeff Ganon got a daily White House Secret Service 'news reporter' press pass - DESPITE Ganon's fake name (real name Jim Guckert), or his up-and-running homosexual male prostitute web site! "How?" I asked back in the late 1990s, "can the New York Times LIE SO BLATANTLY against Democrats, and COVER UP SO MUCH for Republicans?"

Sad to say, the answer is because the Neo-Con New York Times is invested in the AIPAC/Neo-Con agenda, the expanding wars and police-state powers at the core of Bush-Cheney stolen elections and dictatorial war-time powers. (Actually, that discovery was easy - it was personified in the Times' most well known columnist, former Nixon speech-writer, and relentless right-wing ideologue, William Safire, who in 2003 called for a Guernica/Rotterdam/Warsaw ghetto style US "Pacification" of Fallujah after 4 Blackwater mercenaries were killed and hung from a bridge in that city shortly after the successful US invasion of Iraq. At every turn, for his lies and ideology, Mr. Safire had the explicit and express 'journalistic' backing of his publisher, Arthur Sulzberger, and the Times' editors.)

To date, the 'Democratic' "leadership" has made NO EFFORT to LINK President Bush with ENRON Ken Lay FRAUD, Jack Abramoff BRIBERY OF CONGRESS, and Lewis "Scooter" Libby PERJURY and OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE _CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS_ - even though President Clinton was impeached, and Martha Steward sent to prison, ostensibly for "lying"!!

THE 'DEMOCRATIC' "LEADERSHIP" _ENABLES_ this vast, grotesque DOUBLE STANDARD of American law and justice, and thereby DISENFRANCHISES THOUSANDS of _DEMOCRATIC VOTERS_ - AT THE BEHEST OF A FOREIGN GOVERNMENT!

A foreign government which takes US taxpayer aid dollars ($60 billion a year?) and turns around and uses a good portion of that aid money to BUY _OUR_ GOVERNMENT!

It is awful that Democrat leaders WILL NOT CONNECT THE DOTS of Republican Abramoff/Lay/Libby/Halliburton/Blackwater et al CORRUPTION, even when the last vestiges of an independent US Justice Department delivered CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS of Lay, Abramoff, Libby, Cunningham, etc.

It is getting to be just as awful that Democratic voters and "liberal" commentators still do not realize why the entire Democratic Party is so submissive to Republican crimes and abuses of power, as it is to see Democrat 'leaders' bow down to those grotesques abuses of power.
