Have the Bush GOP's Bred-in-the-Bone Policies Given Birth to American Indifference?

BuzzFlash,
"Indifference is a militant thing. It batters down the walls of cities and murders the women and children amid the flames and the purloining of altar vessels." -- Stephen Crane (d. 1900), "Death of the Child"
The indifference we witness in today's America will end up killing the last remnants of our Democracy unless we revive our own sense of justice. If we Americans are to preserve our morality, our rights, and the soul of this country, we have to care passionately about the rights of others. We have to care about the lives of others, just as we care about ourselves.
It's being reported how gas prices are affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans. Young families whose sole support is their semi-truck, and it is costing them thousands of dollars and many are forced to lose everything. People are complaining about the fast rising food costs, but how many American citizens understand "why" all of the prices on everything they purchase are rising and will keep on rising because of the policies of a Republican government that is out of control and has no intention of stopping or correcting anything, as long as the American people do not blame them. As long as the American voter continues to support them.
It's being reported that many Americans citizens are using mass transit, buying scooters, car pooling, trying to cope . . . but, what we don't see in the news is the apathy of the American citizens. It's out there; why is it not being reported? There are also reports that by mid summer, the Bush GOP oil companies will be getting over $5.00 a gallon for their gas, and it's still being reported that they are making the highest profits ever, while hundreds of thousands of Americans are suffering, and our middle-class will continue to slip into poverty.
Another sad story of American indifference in the news last Friday was of a "hit and run" in Connecticut. It was filmed and reported that nine cars passed by this 78-year-old man as he lay helpless in the street. He is now hospitalized and paralyzed.
Elderly Man Hit By Car Completely Ignored By Witnesses
According to a report this spring by the Southern Poverty Law Center, since the year 2000, "The number of hate groups operating in the United States has grown to 888 — a staggering 48 percent increase ..." And, we know that crime will also be on the rise due to the lack of jobs and people without any income at all. What are they going to do? Survive any which way they can.
Do we read or hear of the anger against the Bush Republican Party for all of the debt, death, and destruction? Do we hear Americans talking about the hell that the Iraqi people and the people in Afghanistan are living through due to US government? Do we hear any more about the death-causing indifference shown to the people of New Orleans by the Bush regime after Katrina, people whose lives are still not restored? Do we hear much outrage about our military and National Guard being forced to fight an illegal invasion/occupation by the Bush Republican administration? Do we hear of any anger from the majority of Americans towards the Bush government regarding the treatment of our troops, or returning without proper care and committing suicide?
People who have done nothing to this country are still suffering due to Bush Republican policies. And, instead of the Bush GOP respecting different cultures, they bully them, threaten them, and chastise Americans with democratic ideas of diplomacy. A vote for any Republican today, who has supported this criminal regime, is a vote without conscience, without morality, and one against democracy. And, yet, we hear American citizens threatening to do just that, regardless of the crimes against this country and against humanity around the world that this criminal and treasonous Bush administration has committed. They should be up on impeachment charges along with prosecution instead of being considered again as a governing mass of death and destruction.
Are these facts symptoms of a sick society? Well, they aren't the symptoms of a caring, democratic society, are they? The future of all Americans seals all our fates. We are as one. We are all in this together. The only people who should be caught voting Republican should be the GOP's hard-line, bigoted Right Wing of indifference.
"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.
The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference.
The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference.
The opposite of life is not death, it's indifference."-- Elie Wiesel, U.S. News and World Report, December 27, 1986.
