A Journey in Time -- From Conservatism to Extremism, An American Problem

MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON

BuzzFlash,

"What is objectionable, what is dangerous about extremists is not that they are extreme, but that they are intolerant. The evil is not what they say about their cause, but what they say about their opponents." -- Robert F. Kennedy, The Pursuit of Justice: Extremism, Left and Right, 1964

In a near perfect dreamlike world, there would probably be only two political parties that dominated or represented the majority of US citizens. Democrats and Republicans. Liberals and Conservatives. A balancing act for good government. Checks and balances.

In that same world, the US would be again, that proverbial guiding light, that beacon of hope for those who were living in a dark, lonely, and impoverished world . . . and they would come to such a world, our world. Today, in the real world, those who want a better life for their children are still coming to these United States, and risking their lives to do it, because in the real world, one that has been created over the last thirty or more years, it's not the same safe and inviting place today, as it was yesterday. Around the world, they hate us.

All through US history there's always been thieves, robbers, con artists, etc., and some were successful and some were not. Taking a person's money or goods is easy money for some . . . it's stealing their identity, their belief system that takes years of time. And, to do that, they have to use some of the same old tricks used by those sleight of hand con artists . . . the mind of the "mark" has to be off the mark.

It is what they say about their opponents . . . years ago, the first idea was to destroy the word "liberal." Make it something nasty, distasteful. Taking care of the poor and needy? Ugh, how awful. Caring about higher education for all Americans? Ugh, spend, spend, spend, those liberals. Peace and prosperity for all? Ugh, how could they, those squandering liberals always shelling out, dishing out, and consuming our wealth. It's all their fault all the time.

Just yesterday, it was reported that Senator McCain was saying (paraphrasing) that Senator Obama, now presumptive Democratic Party nominee for President, had the most "liberal" voting record. So? The word liberal still means the same as it always has: The short version: Open to new ideas, progressive, willing to discard old, traditional values if they don't represent this country any more. Respectful (tolerant) of individual rights and freedoms. And, that means adhering to the US Constitution and Bill of Rights for all Americans.

Actually, liberals and progressives all follow the same paths, and those who spent years changing the identity of the Republican Conservatives have always used the word "liberal" in a derogatory way to cover up their constant thieving and sucking up power because of their intolerance of US law, our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Everything they did, they would blame the liberals. Even today, we hear those criminal Bush Republicans blaming the "liberal media," and almost every American knows or should know that the MSM has done nothing but support the criminal activity of the Bush regime. However, the same Republicans would also probably try to denigrate the word "progressive," but, to them, well, it's hard, it's a much bigger word.

Conservative Americans should be very frustrated to know that this Bush GOP does not represent them, so I'm not insulting anyone when I point out the following, but for us Americans to stand down and do nothing about what the Bush GOP has done to the Republican Party and to this country, that's another crime. This country has suffered from a coup brought about by thirty years of the stripping away of the American dream and finalized by the criminal act of the Supreme Court when they took the law into their own hands and put Bush illegally into the White House. They are as guilty of treason as this criminal Bush regime and their crimes committed against humanity.

What's conservative about $130 for a barrel of oil, when Saddam sold it for $20, and $4.00 for a gallon of gas? People in the cities can car pool or take a bus, and some might even be able to walk to work, but for many around the country, they don't have those options. First they took our jobs, now they take away the transportation to those jobs.

What's conservative about not being able to feed one's family today? What's conservative about a market of food and medicine that can't be trusted for consumption? What's conservative about perpetual war? What's conservative about the majority of the US budget going for the building of better, fancier killing machines? What's conservative about using our National Guard as military?

What's conservative about using tens of thousands of taxpayers' dollars to provide protection for Bush when he travels? What's conservative about allowing corporations to leave this country through NAFTA, taking jobs out of this country as well as their tax money? What is patriotic about that? Oh, I forgot, they all must wear flag pins.

What is conservative or even American about the Patriot Act, Bush's signing statements, peeping into American lives, ignoring the Geneva Conventions, secret prisons, arrests for wearing the word "peace," torture, outing CIA agent fighting terrorism, and ignoring New Orleans, while we Americans watched our own die?

What is conservative, is the length of this list, it's only a few items taken from a very long list.

What's conservative about the words privatize and deregulation . . . as Ken Smith says in his book, Junk English, "If privatize were merged with for-profit to create a more honest word, profitize, how willing would we be to turn over our social institutions to the eager new owners?"

Fellow Americans, we all expect some lies in government, but through these Republicans posing as conservatives, we've been lied to for over thirty years. It's generations past the time to stop the criminal activity in US government. That means, if you believe in this country, do not vote Republican even if you are one, they don't represent you. Your identity has been stolen! Fight back for it. Don't support it.

Recapturing some old traditions and American values plus going forward to peace and prosperity is something we Americans have to do together, and we can't do it unless we face the truth that until those holding the Republican Conservative Party hostage, while they keep committing crimes against humanity, until they (the Bush administration and every supporter of them in US government) are put out of office and made accountable . . . those Americans who once held the balance of power with the common decency of the give and take of democracy will never exist again. This is not to say that the Democratic Party has not had its problems with those who have been enablers of this Bush criminal regime. Some Democrats voted for NAFTA, and took many helpless Americans off welfare, and gave that money to the wealthy Republican conservatives in government . . . they too, must be held accountable for their duplicity.

The theft of the Republican conservatism makes this an American problem, where we must trust and embrace one another with one goal in mind and that is to get this nation back on track that will take us into the future . . . and to do that, the extremists have to go, along with all of those who keep supporting them. Remember this November . . . back on track, peace, prosperity. Fellow Americans, there is nothing conservative about a vote for anyone in this Bush Republican Party. A vote for those criminals would be only cutting our own throat, and even the throats of our unborn. Haven't we allowed this criminal faction to bleed this country enough already? They've had over thirty years, and our democracy (pardon the pun) is very anemic. Weak, and barely alive.

We can't trust a government that shuts the people out, tricks them into years of debt, death, and destruction . . . to get back on track, to recapture our path into the future, to get our country back, it has to be an all out American effort . . . government of, by, and for the American people . . . like it or not . . . it's what we believe . . . liberalism, progressivism, conservatism . . . it's all about us, Americanism . . . and a long way from extremism, where all of the power and profit will always be in the blood-filled hands of a few.
