Subject: Try posting an opinion on McCain's blog
Just for the heck of it I thought I would leave a note on the McCain site to say that his choice of Palin is quite disrespectful to women who have earned the right to their positions and have not been turned into a tool in some man's reach for power and status. However - when I first went to the blog to register I read a number of the existing comments - there were over 1500 - many were quite in opposition to this pick and said they would not vote for McCain - so I registered, or tried to, it wouldn't go through - when I was sent back to the blog there were 153 comments - all positive and glowing. I didn't read the entire 1500+ but that leaves me to believe that the 1300 or so republicans that posted were not so happy about current affairs.
Try it - you will be amazed - they actually think this is going to work. As a woman I am insulted, as an American I am very concerned, and as a Democrat I am amused beyond belief.

Subject: Ingraham Compares Democrats to Nazis
Tonight August 28th, at about 11:35 pm during coverage of the final night of the Democratic convention in Denver, right wing radio talk show host Laura Ingraham told her audience this:
"People don't understand that the Nazis were that National Socialist Party and that Democrats are the socialists of today."
This ignorant and irresponsible statement is but one example of the crude smear campaign that is in full swing among the Republican media cult, who looking at the coming election are very fearful that they may soon find themselves turned out of power for a very long time to come.

I hope Laura Ingram's inflammatory comments will be of interest to all of America. Ingram calling democrats, hardly radical in any respect, akin to Nazis? As they say in co-dependency programs, when you point one finger at someone else, there are THREE fingers pointing back at you! Where oh where is the corporate media exposing this woman and her backers for what they are, opps, she works for the corporate media! Mussolini said fascism should really be called corporatism -- how are we different? How do we stop these thugs and criminals without the support of our media, government and judiciary? I just don't know ...

Subject: My theory on the Palin baby
I think I have this story figured out. Here is what I think happened.
I think daughter Bristol got pregnant with "Trig". Then they found out it had Down's Syndrome and she wanted to dump it because she was young [16 years old], her boyfriend was young and/or not eager to get married or neither wanted to get married and have to spend most of their life stuck raising a Downs child. The mother intervened and told the daughter if she would have the child, she would raise it for her as her own and no one would have to know anything. The same way Jack Nicholson was raised. So Sarah had to tell people and co-workers she was pregnant eventually and did. Then she had to tell people she was leaking because she found out her daughter went into labor. That's why she went home when she did and the way she did. And if there were calls made from TX to AK to speak with a doctor, it was about Bristol's condition and not hers. The baby was probably born in a house and then transferred to the medical clinic when Sarah arrived there so it appeared she was the one having the baby. Then the daughter thinking she couldn't get pregnant again so soon and maybe while still lactating, started having sex again and did just that.
At the time this happened the Palin's never imagined they would be in the national spotlight so there probably wasn't even a need to falsify the birth certificate. At the time they probably didn't think anyone would even want to look at it and a Downs child would never need to have this record for anything or if the child lived long enough and asked, they would tell him the truth. The doctor at the clinic would go along with this plan since no laws were being broken.
If she did have the baby at a medical clinic instead of in a home, then there would be some other people who might know what happened but at the time, they wouldn't have had any reason to discuss this with others outside that small community and would have considered it a private family matter. Most of the medical personnel would only be concerned that the baby lived and was being taken care of.
So I am betting that if someone gets their hands on that birth certificate before anyone can change it, Bristol will be listed as the mother. And if I am right, McCain is a cooked goose.

Chinese leaders are building China, while American leaders are milking the U.S. to build artificial cities and 50 bases in Iraq and the global economy at the expense of U.S. jobs and treasure.
China is launched on building 100 nuclear power plants and redirecting entire rivers to end its dependency on foreign oil, while the U.S. pays out $700 billion per year for oil and loses $800 billion per year in trade imbalances. Our treasure leaving the country at the rate of $1.5 trillion per year, while our leaders pursue foreign adventures and our own infrastructure crumbles.

Subject: Palin likes to zoom around in an airplane shooting frightened wolves
As a longtime hunter, over 30 years as a hunter -- I find anyone who thinks shooting a wolf from an airplane is 'sport' to be beyond disgusting -- it's very unsportmanlike and sickening.
There is NO 'sport' to shooting a terrified wild wolf running for its life away from an airplane.
It's as 'sports-like' as when the great herds of buffalo were slaughtered from trains in the 1800s. There is no 'sport'. It is only a slaughtering.
Sarah Palin's Big, Sleazy Safari
By John Dolan, AlterNet. Posted September 2, 2008.
For most of us, zooming around in an airplane to shoot wolves sounds insane. For Sarah Palin, it's a "safari."
Most people had never heard of Sarah Palin when she was named the Republican VP nominee. But I'd been hearing her name all too often, because I belong to a group called Defenders of Wildlife -- and in her time as governor of Alaska, Palin has used her position as governor of Alaska to ruin the Alaskan wilderness in every way she could.
Her most recent "victory" came on Aug. 26, when Alaska's voters defeated Measure 2, an initiative that would have banned hunting wolves from airplanes for sport.
Palin organized a campaign against Measure 2 and funded it with $400,000 of state money. For most of us, the idea of zooming around in a private airplane over snowbound wilderness just for the chance to spot a terrified wild dog and blow it apart with a high-powered rifle is insane. But there's a whole culture out there in love with the idea. Palin did her part by playing the tired old Alaskan pioneer card, saying that lower-48 naysayers who dared to object to the idea of dive-bombing wildlife didn't "understand rural Alaska."
Alaska isn't really very hard to understand. It consists of a minority that loves the wilderness and an overwhelmingly Republican majority that wants to squeeze all the cash it can get out of the state before the oil dries up, the fish die out and the wildlife disappears. Nowhere else does the Republican formula of manipulating the suckers by playing on their silly hatreds and even sillier vanities play out more clearly than in Alaska.
To get an idea of Palin's core constituency, just go to the home page of Safari Club International, one of the groups that fought hardest against Measure 2 -- and is now gloating loudest over this proud victory. ... (more)

I just watched fox (channel 45) in Baltimore on Friday 8/28. Between 9;15 and 9;45 pm there were 2 ads for Obama: each came on for LESS THAN 3 SECONDS and then dissappeared. I wonder if 1) this was intentional 2) this is happening nationally 3) this is happening all day I don't watch tv much.) If so ... this Fox station is deliberately axing Obama's ads. Please investigate this and see if others have noted similar cut ads. I smell a pretty big rat here (Note: all the other commercials came off perfectly and there was no bad weather.)

Subject: Debate line for Obama
I remember when Reagan debated Carter in '79. Reagan said to America in that debate something like, "Is your life better or worse than it was four years ago?" Well, Obama should say to McCain the same thing, and reference back to Reagan saying this: "Is our economy better or worse than it was eight years ago? Do we want to go in the same direction, or do we want to CHANGE this direction?"

Subject: She's a Decider -- Yeah, We Need a Female Bush
Now we all know how they are going to package this. I saw one of McCain's people on the Today Show, Helen somebody, saying that Sarah Palin, even though she was mayor of a very small town and for 2 years has been governor of a very small state, population wise, she is more qualified because she can make the hard choices and because Obama voted "present" over 100 times in the Illinois Senate he can't be trusted to make any choices.
I know it isn't going to help if I remind you that I told you that his using the purely political ploy of voting "present" was going to bite him in the butt. It doesn't matter if the Illinois Democratic Party told him to do it or if NARAL told him, to, it was going to create problems. It was his "present" votes that really pushed me over to the Clinton side, but that is all water under the bridge. For future reference: if you don't go on record with a vote your judgments will be called political in nature.
Governor Sarah Palin with all her executive prowess making itself evident in her governing of Wasilla, Alaska, population less than 9,000, several thousand less than 9,000, along with her leadership of the hockey moms and the high school Fellowship of Christian Athletes and her two years of commanding the Alaska National Guard thinks she is qualified to run this country. Oh, in the name of sanity, save me from this, another political ploy to get the female vote by making female voters seem shallow and self-serving.
Governor Sarah Palin has decided to stand up to SOME oil interests and political opponents, mainly other Republicans. She is such a whiz-bang decider she has decided to continue with a huge number of Bush decisions and we all know what a good decider he was. Some of her decisions are actually much worse than Bush's decisions.
Somehow I can't imagine Bush deciding to force his daughters to make their rapist or incestuous relative a father, but Sarah Palin has gone on record saying that the only exception on abortion is the health of the mother. That probably means the physical health of the mother because that wing of the GOP believes mental illness isn't really illness. My guess is, if your daughter becomes suicidal due to being raped by her Uncle Perv, the family lech, VP Sarah Palin and her self-righteous mob would just lock her in a padded cell for the duration.
She has also decided, like Bush, that there are people in the USA who must pay taxes, but allow Sarah and others to decide who they get to marry. Her marriage seems pretty stable, but then the line is that if gay people marry then it will destroy our heterosexual marriages. I don't see it, but then some people think they have a God-given right to redo the Constitution using their own definition of sin. They are afraid God isn't going to punish in the way they would like on judgment day, so they have to punish now just in case the sinner repents and God, the pushover that he is, lets them escape eternal damnation.
What decision has Sarah made regarding the torture of prisoners? Is she okay with her son being tortured if captured? Since the GOP has redefined torture, I am not sure John McCain was ever tortured. He was just aggressively and creatively interrogated for five years. He is obviously still alive, so since none of what was done to him caused death or permanent organ damage, then he wasn't tortured.
On top of that Vietnam was a police action which makes any kind of torture legal. He wasn't even a prisoner of war; he was really a detainee in a police action. There was really no front in Vietnam, either. In fact, change the set decoration from jungle to desert and they are interchangeable. You would have to substitute the Republicans for the Democrats in the war room, as well.
She has decided to go along with the darer-go-first approach to Russia. We get to park all the WMD on their border we like, but they should not interfere with anything on our side of the world. We get to control any country that has oil, but in return when Exxon gets Russian oil VP Palin MIGHT up their taxes. She really thinks the GOP is going to allow her to raise corporate taxes on anything.
On top of everything else, Bill Kristol is claiming that Bush is threatening us with the invasion of Iran if we vote for Obama. If Bush thinks Obama won't attack Iran, then Bush will do it before Obama's inauguration. It isn't like the GOP hasn't messed with US elections before. Remember how the Iranians, how ironic, released the hostages the day Reagan was inaugurated? It's the same thing except this time. Iran gets bombed the day before the inauguration. What goes around comes around. Iran should know better and so should we. We were on their side during Iran-Contra and while our friend, the Shah, was torturing anyone he didn't like we were on their side, but then we were against them in the Iran/Iraq war.
If McCain's VP pick doesn't get every Clinton supporter, independent female voter and pro-choice Republican voter off the damn fence, then someone needs to knock them off. Please do not tell me if you are even considering voting for these two war-mongering busybodies. Busybody is what I call people who mess in the private lives and decisions of people who want them to butt out.
Please, deliver me from people who think a person who thinks being a hockey mom, mayor of a frozen spot in the road, commander-in-chief of a national guard when she makes no decisions on their deployment, short of having them rescue seagulls from oil spills, that she says can't possibly happen on her watch, wants to force my daughter to give birth to her own siblings, make her rapist part of her child's life forever, use the power of the governorship to fire her ex-brother-in-law, who if all that he is accused of is true should be in jail, feels sorry for gay people being taxed out the wazoo, but thinks she should be their marriage broker, will get my vote just because she has a VAGINA.
Think again because I am a better decider than that.

Makeover in the Works for Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs? Recent comments in Conde Nast Portfolio spark unusual offer from Emmy-nominated actress Kristin Davis LOS ANGELES, CA (August 29, 2008) Emmy-nominated actress Kristin Davis, famous for her roles as mild-mannered-but-spunky Charlotte York Goldenblatt on television’s “Sex and the City” and as diabolic rich girl Brooke Armstrong Campbell on “Melrose Place,” announced today that she planned to dress Omaha billionaire Warren Buffett in “raiment of my own design.”
Davis’ unusual offer was made in response to comments by Buffett that were printed on the web edition of Conde Nast Portfolio in which he stated: “I buy expensive suits. They just look cheap on me.”
“I just felt so, so bad about that, and I knew I could help,” says the Golden Globe- and Emmy-nominated actress. “My heart just went out to him.”
Although seeming to come out of the blue, Davis’ fashion makeover offer to the Midwest billionaire is no idle boast. The classic beauty has just announced she is teaming up with North Carolina-based department-store chain Belk to create a line of clothing -- designed primarily for women -– that will include dresses, denim, sporty separates, sleepwear and handbags priced between $38 and $240 that will be available at 126 of Belk's 307 locations throughout the southeastern U.S., with plans to expand into more locations next spring, and via Belk.com.
“Warren Buffett is mainly known for what I would call a ‘Wizard of Oz’ look: oversize, square-frame eyeglasses which may make him look oracular but to me they come off as just a teeny bit too harsh,” said Davis, 38, who says she is excited about her first foray into menswear. “To soften him up a bit, I’ll probably look first to a number of new colors I spotted on a recent leaf-peeping trip to Maine.” According to Davis, the brilliant colors produced in the fall by Maine's beech, birch, maple, aspen and white ash trees are famous across the country. “So we’ll play with these a bit for Warren and see how it goes. I think they will work well and we’ll get a good interaction, get him into more of a ‘playful’ look. Something that sends the message: ‘You’re as young as you feel.’”
Buffett made the somewhat self-deprecatory fashion remarks about his appearance to Conde Nast Portfolio after being named to a list of 15 “Executive Icons” that the magazine feels have a “distinctive fashion sense.”
The list also includes Pepsi CEO Indra Nooyi, who made to the list for her ‘silk saris’, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, celebrity publisher Martha Stewart, business tycoon Donald Trump, former eBay chief Meg Whitman and actress and businesswoman Mary-Kate Olsen.
Rounding out the list are Mark Zuckerberg, head of Facebook, American Apparel CEO Dov Charney, Avon CEO Andrea Jung, ‘hip-hop pioneer’ Russell Simmons, Countrywide co-founder Angelo Mozilo, Youtube CEO Chad Hurley, and Apple tycoon Steve Jobs. According to the magazine, Steve Jobs has been described as someone “whose look is unwavering: blue jeans, black mock turtleneck (tucked in), and sneakers.”
“So I may do something for Steve Jobs too, get him to mix it up a bit, I don’t know exactly what yet,” said the warmhearted Davis with a quick smile. “I felt just awful when the Bloomberg wire service published an obituary for him on Wednesday – how awful that must have felt because he wasn’t dead at all! -- and I want to do something for him to let him to know we’d all really like him to stick around.”
Fashionwise, Steve Jobs has made his biggest mark with his footwear, says Portfolio. In 2006, Jobs appeared to be shifting footwear allegiance from New Balance to Nike – “but he quickly went back to his old ways.”
Kristin Landen Davis, a native of South Carolina, is an American Golden Globe- and Emmy Award-nominated actress, known best for playing the role of Charlotte York Goldenblatt on HBO's Sex and the City -- co-starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Chris Noth – and for her role as diabolic rich girl Brooke Armstrong Campbell on Melrose Place. She has been a presenter at The 51st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, Fox, 1999; at the 2000 MTV Movie Awards, MTV, 2000; and at The 53rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, CBS, 2001. Having admitted a preference for dating actors, her ex-boyfriend list is high-profile and extensive, including: Alec Baldwin (with whom she guest-starred on both Will & Grace and Friends) Jeff Goldblum, and Liev Schreiber. She says: "If I had one wish for myself, it would be to fall in love. That's asking for trouble, but that's the truth."
The magazines published by Conde Nast Portfolio group include Vogue, Glamour, Conde Nast Traveller, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Gourmet.

CNN's poll question for today:
Should voters care that Gov. Sarah Palin's unwed teen daughter is pregnant? Yes No No opinion
Seldom have I seen a more idiotic poll and felt like banging my head against the wall. Do they not realize that this is overtly simplistic? While I do not care about her daughter being pregnant, I do care about Palin's position on abortion and its ramifications. Taken in that context, yes, I do care, but as an Obama supporter it hardly affects my decision-making process. I do agree with Obama that families are off limits; however I also feel that this is a good time to talk about abortion, sex-ed. contraceptives etc.
I am astounded by the stupidity of our media. Last night I was watching a reporter interview an evacuee from New Orleans and she asked the woman why she evacuated this time while she chose not to do so during Hurricane Katrina. The woman was remarkably placid. As a Katrina evacuee, my response out loud was "Are you f***ing kidding me?". Andrew Halcro's article "Shadow Governor" (www.andrewhalcro.com/shadow_governor) about how Todd Palin has sat in on meetings with his wife, the governor, makes me wonder if we'll get a two-for-one vice-president if McCain/Palin are elected. It's interesting that Todd works for British Petroleum and she wants to drill everywhere, including ANWAR. How does he have time to work for BP and still attend Alaskan goverment meetings?
Could it be that Todd is the jealous type and doesn't trust his wife to meet with other men about state business? If so, how does he feel about McCain saying he and Sarah are "soul mates"? The article with that quote wondered how Cindy McCain feels about that. Perhaps Todd and Cindy could make sure any meetings between John and Sarah are chaperoned by one or both of them. Then we'd have a two-for-one president and vice-president.

They could not get that many people to lie and sign paperwork stating they were actually telling the truth, everyone involved would risk going to jail.
You are right that Palin was wrong to hop on a plane and everything, knowing that Trig was a down syndrome child. Not enough people in Alaska think of this as the negative thing it is, and think how funny or tough Palin is, which is disgusting.
But Trig is Todd and Palin's child. And it makes sense that considering Palin's age she would have had a more likely chance of the baby having down syndrome.

The higher the % of Full-time verses part-time workers the lower the tax.
The higher the % of health care paid by the company the lower the tax.
Providing Pension plans for employees would lower taxes.
On-site childcare would cause taxes to be lowered.
The closer the average wage is to the minimum wage the higher the tax.

Subject: McCain
I supported John McCain in 2000. In my opinion, what George W. Bush did to him in the Carolinas was despicable, and made it impossible for me to ever vote for Bush. In my view, the presidential elections are entirely about the characters of the candidates. Times change so policies change, but I believe a person’s character, a person’s core, is immutable. The facts about John McCain’s youth, that he goofed off in school, coming in 5th from the bottom of the 899 cadets in his class, that he got into and through Annapolis through his Admiral father’s influence, that he was captured and imprisoned in Viet Nam, that in his old age he says he can’t remember how many houses he owns or how much money he has, I take all these with a grain of salt. The young often grow out of their foolishness and perform a brave act, and the old sometimes forget.
I just can’t bring myself to vote for someone I now know to be an adulterer. This year I learned that John McCain met Carol Shepp, a swimsuit model from Philadelphia, in 1964. They married in ‘65 and had a daughter. While John was imprisoned in Nam, Carol was in an accident that ruptured her spleen, broke her arm and her hip, and crushed both her legs, leaving her six months in the hospital. Two more years and 23 operations left Carol four inches shorter than when she’d first met John. When John was released from Nam, he told friends she was “… not the woman I married.”
His POW status allowed him to strike up a friendship with the Reagans. While Carol worked in Ronald Reagan’s 1976 presidential campaign, John had extramarital affairs. In 1979, a 42 year old John chased a 24 year old beer distributor heiress, Cindy Lou Hensley, around a buffet table set up to honor veterans, and had a relationship. Months later John shocked Carol and the Reagans with his divorce demand. I have yet to hear that the Reagans forgave him. Now John has admitted his sin and I can forgive, as Jesus would have me do. But then, it’s not hard to forgive a man for breaking his solemn promise to someone else. And if he and Carol had agreed to a divorce, releasing each other from their vows, before he started having affairs, I could forget. But John couldn’t wait.
And now he proposes to share the Oval Office with a former beauty pageant “Miss Congeniality”. What I can’t do is ever trust a man who breaks the most sacred oath a person ever takes, “… to love and to cherish … in sickness and in health … till death do us part.” I suppose there are those who would see nothing wrong with doing what John did and would find some way to defend it, but I believe that to keep our sacred oaths against the pull of animal instinct is where true courage and true character are found. How can he ever be trusted to keep any promise he makes about judges or the unborn or anything else, if he can’t keep the most sacred one?

Subject: Dobson helps to measure distance to god
Hi Buzzers.
I read that James Dobson told his sheeple to pray for rain during Obama's acceptance speech. I allowed myself to theorize a little and look what I came up with:
Let us assume that prayer is a form of energy waves (which I heard from a Baptist preacher). Let us assume that it travels with the speed of light. For practical purpose, let us assume that god's answer to a prayer also travels with the same speed.
Dobson asked for rain on August 28. Hurricane Gustav was expected to make a landfall on September 1. Between August 28 and September 1 there are 120 hours; 432000 seconds. Half of it should be the time the prayer needed to reach god. The other half, obviously, for god's answer to Dobson.
OK, so we have 216,000 seconds. We know that the speed of light (or prayer) is approximately 299,792 km/s. Isn't that about right, that there are 64,755,072,000 km between Earth and Heaven? Actually that is not THAT far...
We have to let NASA know, that god is within the reach of the Hubble telescope!
Oh, by the way: Dobson was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. Not that I wish folks in Shreveport anything bad, but let us watch Gustav carefully and see where it lands...

Subject: What a toss up for November
Dear Buzzflash:
Even if I were Las Vegas' most successful odds maker in history, whomever that is, I would not hazard a guess on who will win in November. Until McCain picked the hitherto unknown cheesecake Sarah Palin as his VP candidate, I had pretty much given up much hope for Obama winning the election. Regardless, I will still vote for Obama, because I like his intelligence and this country needs the pendulum to swing back out of right-wing neo-con evangelical territory desperately. The religious right has been successful in bullying its way into every public forum, and forces all political candidates to suck up to them. So much for freedom of choice and separation of church and state.
I had figured Barack Obama would lose for no reason other than he is black. Sounds trite but I firmly believe evangelicals are hate mongers, hypocritical gasbags who are as racist as any jerk running around with a bed sheet on his head and shouting "White Power!" Add to that the redneck racism that is alive and well, no matter what television and media would have us believe, and it's enough to keep Obama out of the White House.
I think there are Democrats too who won't vote for him, and I'm not naive enough to think his race isn't a factor, although some will conveniently use Hillary to mask that ugly truth. However, with Palin on the ticket, we have given real cause for concern for the right-wing maniacs, who do want somebody with much more experience backing up the geriatric nominee. Not that the kind of experience they value is a good thing, their being Republicans, after all, but it'll sure throw a wrench in the machinery. For once, it's nice to see the Republicans have a bizarre ticket of their own for a change. It's going to be a real interesting election.

What the #@%%% is going on here? We watch our nation fall, and MILLIONS of hard working, well meaning, tax paying citizens are losing everything they own or have worked for all their lives and the candidates grandstand, playing up to the fears of the people by telling them what they want to hear? I've been listening to the different speeches by all the candidates and it seems to me they are all in some big competition who can say the BEST, MOST promising, so-called "heartfelt" speeches while they all yuck it up with each other.
"I feel your pain" doesn't work with me. Not when I watch congress vote themselves a raise EVERY year adding up to thousand of dollars every several years, while at the same time, cutting programs, help, and funding to the most vulnerable.
I don't want to hear some politician mouth words of so-called sympathy or pretty promises. SAVE IT!!! I want to SEE genuine REAL COMPASSION in ACTION from those in power who CLAIM to care.
There are way too many victims of government corruption and greed across this nation for me to be swayed by the best speech writers.
SHOW ME should be the rallying cry of the people. Demonstrate your compassion with your VOTE, pass some real BILLS into LAW that are going to CHANGE things. Open the floodgates for REAL funding to put this nation and its people back together. KICK the CORPORATIONS OUT of the Halls of CONGRESS and give corporate lobbyists their WALKING papers. QUIT PROTECTING CORPORATE CRIMINALS who buy votes and immunity from penalties when people are harmed by their products (are you listening Hillary?). Bring the manufacturing jobs back home.
Set up a sane practical national health care plan that WORKS!

So imagine an international summit featuring the leaders of the free world. In walks Russia’s president. The president of France sits down. Great Britain’s prime minister joins them at the table. So do the leaders of Germany, Italy, and Mexico. They’re waiting for the most important figure, the President of the United States; THE leader of the free world. And in walks President Sarah Palin, whose experience includes being mayor of a small town and less than two years as Governor of Alaska. These world leaders are looking to her for leadership to solve global issues and help prevent war. Do you feel comfortable about putting that much power in the hands of someone so inexperienced and so untested on the global stage?
Mr. McCain’s choice of a running mate speaks volumes about how he puts his own political fortunes above everything else, including the security of this country.
It should be illegal for a candidate to choose someone so dangerously unqualified. We’ll have to settle for the second-best option. Just don’t vote for him. I’m going Obama all the way. Maybe he’s a little wet behind the ears, too. But at least he’s got some national experience; he knows how to pick a staff, manage a budget, and he doesn’t pressure the Illinois state police to fire his sister’s ex-husband.
This is one of the scariest moments in American history. Mr. McCain should be ashamed of himself.

Subject: Disastrous Palin VP Pick
There's more to the Palin pick than meets the eye. Her local scandals, pro-life and ANWR-drilling stances, and even her looks are just the beginning of her deficits.
I can't believe that a bigger issue isn't being made of her education. A batchelor's degree in journalism, for God's sake? What the hell! When has anyone with a batchelor's degree been considered for such a high office? Especially when that most rudimentary degree is in journalism which provides no intellectual training for facing any of the grave issues burdening America today.
Barack Obama is a lawyer and a constitutional scholar. Joe Biden is a lawyer with decades of foreign policy experience.
The only conclusion I can come to is that the Republicans are deliberately throwing the election. An Obama/Biden win leaves the Democrats with the impossible task of cleaning up the Bush disasters. With most Americans having memories not much longer than the 10-second sound bites they gobble up ad nauseam, the Bush mess will, four years from now, be considered the Obama/Biden mess. This will result in a landslide for Republicans in 2012.
I hope I'm wrong, but it's the only Republican strategy that makes sense.

Subject: The Folly of Avarice and the Ego: McCain, Experience, and Selling Out One's Beliefs to Attain Personal Power
McCain is such a transparent panderer. He's flip-flopped on all of his previous long-held "convictions" and positions just to fulfill his egoistic need for personal power. He's obviously come to the conclusion that, at his advanced years, this is probably his last chance to attain personal power as President of the U.S., and he's decided that he'll do anything to achieve it, even flip-flop on every major position that he's held over the years. He's sold his soul, and he'll have to live with that after he loses the election.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm sick and tired of him and his supporters acting like the voters should just give him the White House as some sort of consolation prize because he was a POW. He's gone to that well way to many times. The White House is not a consolation prize and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are not negotiable.
Another thing - by McCain's rationale, the important thing is how many times you've punched the time clock, not what kind of job you've done and what degree of judgment you've displayed while you were on the job. Experience is only an opportunity to learn and apply good judgment. Experience doesn't mean squat if, at the end of the day, you still lack good judgment. The media had better stop treating time on the job as an automatic evidence of a politician's wisdom or a acceptable substitute for good judgment.
I'd rather have a new kid on the block who consistently shows good judgment and wisdom as opposed to a really old timer with years of "experience" and a complete lack of good judgment added to a willingness to sell out his principles to achieve personal power. McCain is going to lose for many reasons, not the least of which is that he's not genuine. Even the people whose positional demands he now bows to don't respect him. The reason is simple. They never really liked him much to begin with, and even though he has now adopted their positions as his own as the price for their support, they will never respect someone so willing to compromise his belief. It's political prostitution. They're using him. He's using them. And, in the end they'll all lose, which is as it should be. America will do just fine without them running it (into the ground).

Not very, it seems. Here's what she told the Anchorage Daily News on October 22, 2006, during the race for the governor's seat (via Nexis):
5. Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?
Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.
