Subject: Cindy attempts to follow Michelle...

An excerpt from Cindy McCain's speech from the upcoming RNC in Minneapolis:

"I first met John in Hawaii, where he was chasing tail while trying to get shed of his recently crippled first wife. I guess it was my good looks, my youth (I'm 18 years his junior) and my vast inherited wealth that caught his eye, and led him to acquire our marriage license before he had even finalized his crass divorce from what's-her-name ..."

Subject: Mark Warner's Key Note Speech-Worse Ever!

I am 78 years old and have watched Democrats giving Key Note speeches for years, and I regret having to say that the speech by Mark Warner was the worst that I have ever heard.

Who the hell is this guy? He certainly didn't sound like a Democrat to me. His speech was all about himself.

With all the damage the Bush Administration and John McCain have done to this country, this G** d*** fool never mentioned it. He said it isn't about being a liberal or about being a conservative. Oh! What the hell is it about, his f***ing cell phone?

Why didn't someone review this piece of s*** speech before it was delivered? If this guy makes it to the Senate, I smell 'Blue Dog' all the way.

Subject: Oprah

Readers:

This was great with the Dem Convention. It seemed like everyone was going there with his/her purpose in mind. People struggled to find rooms. I DO NOT think it is good for Oprah to suddenly show up and get herself an opulent suite right in the heart of Denver, while the delegates have had to struggle for housing. This is NOT good and Oprah should give up her room to some delegates, if she is that Democratic. She might do it and for that, I would respect her.

Subject: PUMA's and the McCain campaign

We're in trouble here.

The McCain campaign puts out a "Why not Hillary for VP?" political ad, and the Democratic Party does comic pratfalls all over itself trying to answer the question seriously--as if it were anything more than a pathetically transparent, open and direct attempt to drive wedges among the Democratic electorate. Nothing to do with issues or McCain's positions versus Obama's--nothing whatsoever but a blatant effort to stoke resentment.

If we can't laugh off a manipulation this flagrant, we can look forward to more of the same from the good ol' boys down at RNC headquarters ...

"Why not Daniel Inouye? Is it because, as a black man, Senator Obama grew up resenting Asian-American prominence in Hawaii?"

"Why not Jesse Ventura? Is it because an elitist like Senator Obama doesn't care about independent voters?"

"Why not Harold Ford? Is it because Senator Obama really, deep down inside, doesn't want anything to do with other people of color?"

"Why not Trent Lott, or Dennis Hastert? Can we really believe that Senator Obama intends to be a president for all Americans, when he picked another Democrat as his running mate?"

Honestly, folks -- it's time to grow up, get our message together, and stop validating Karl Rove's utter contempt for our collective intelligence.

Subject: Abortion

Republicans and Conservatives just love to belly-ache about anything or nothing. In the case of abortion, they have had every opportunity to zap it because even at the time of the original ruling in 1973, they had a majority on the Supreme Court that ruled in favor of the right to privacy which is the premise that led to the right to a woman's right to choose. Even the Republican Chief Justice, Warren E. Burger voted for the enactment of Roe V. Wade.

There are five Catholics on the court today. Why do they just sit there and whine? In 1973, only two justices voted against the measure, Byron R. White and William Rehnquist. They don't convince me that they give a hoot. There have been five Republican presidents since the ruling who have made no effort other than mild lip service to the ousting of the abortion ruling -- Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and the two Bushes. You hardly ever hear abortion mentioned until election time and statistics show that as many Republicans and Conservatives have abortions as anyone else, and affairs and divorces, too. These hypocrites are just frothing at the mouth for attention.

Subject: Whoops! Top Republican Admits That GOP Is Running "Ministry Of Truth" Against Obama

What am I missing? Any nation where half its electorate suborns this clear attribute of an evil empire--let alone control of access to 1st Amendment forums by means of wealth alone--does not deserve change--particularly where the party touting it ensconces its cowardly opposition's propaganda machine in a sky-box within its own convention.

Not once during this presidential campaign have I heard the "i" word. Any democracy of which half its citizens suborn by its vote the murder of more than 650,000 innocent people in the name of a clearly mythical War on Terror as a ruse to a War on Freedom is morally bankrupt and deserves the world's antipathy, hostility and its everlasting punishment!

Subject: This may be a little edgy for you. But if you like it, I'll do more submissions

It was the day of Hillary. Prior to her speech, the pundits were in a fury trying to define what Hillary should do, must do, shouldn’t do, could do. Once the speech was given, Like so many exit polls during the primary, my favorite commentators at MSNBC were not only wrong, they were in another universe. By the end of Hillary’s speech, they seemed to be ... well speechless. Keith of the rants was almost in tears. Chris was choked up. It was simply one of the most amazing speeches ever. Every snide comment about the “Clintons are in it for themselves” was vaporized in a pure communication that was not self-based, but rather, a call to arms to think about the group, rather than the individual.

As my favorites seemed to have lost their place or thinking, I switched to CNN. There was Anderson -- with not a hair out of place -- being self-important. And then, they cut to interview on the floor.

As always, the Elephant raised its head.

A black woman in her mid thirties was sobbing. The reporter was searching for a pithy comment, but the woman looked at her and said, “That was presidential … don’t tell me that wasn't presidential.”

Cuing from the tears, the reporter pressed on. “Why are you crying? What is going on”? The answer? “She showed me hope ... yes I might vote for Obama … he has two months to show me something.”

Our temporarily white society missed something here. This black woman chose a woman over a black man. It was a telling judgment. A personal reflection on loyalty. Perhaps a cruel reflection of her experience. But in a society where 2/3 of all black children are born out of wedlock, where black women have had to be in charge of the family and pay the bills, where men come and go, why should we be surprised?

If I had a chance to meet this good woman, I would ask her again to watch the tape of Obama talking to his children after Michelle’s speech. The evident love, that perhaps some of these things we strive to do to improve life and love, might show her the audacity of hope.

Yes, to Markmyword ... the thought has crossed all our minds ... I am pretty sure. This potential president is as different as John Kennedy and as controversial. It is frightening to think that in this country ... it could be planned, carried out and covered for however many years the Kennedy one has. I remember well, the round table where the one-term governor of Minnesota ... the ex wrestler ... was pressing the conversation as to how Kennedy died, by whom and why it was covered up until a certain time. ... they all poo-pooed him ... like he was being a conspiracy theorist ... something like me, and he asked the man point blank ... unexpectedly, "Well, then why aren't the hearings and papers open for all the public until after a certain time and years? " And the know-it-all had to admit, "I don't know" ... understandable ... you have to wonde r... if there was not something else to it, why?????

And, to the Mailbagger who said that everyone is starting to roll their eyes back in their heads everytime John McCain answers the "Houses' question, by saying ... "For five years, while I was in Prison ... I did not even have a house!" You just know it is coming now ... every time. It makes me think of the time in the debates early on when someone asked Biden how he would debate Giuliani on the ability to be president. And Biden ... in one of his rare instances ... made me laugh when he said, "You can't debate Giuliani, all he knows is a noun, a verb and Sept. llth." Needless to say ... it got a big laugh ... but, I am getting sick of hearing about McCain's prison term, too. At least he came home ... my brother left part of his body there ... on the field. Memories of a prison would not be good ... but apparently, it has not been bad for McCain!
