MS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON
BuzzFlash,
"Laws are like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through." -- Jonathan Swift, 1667-1745
When I saw the video of Bush playing with the small flag in his hand, my first thought was not of how he was desecrating the American flag as many were calling it, but wondering how many thousands of people did it take to put him in that crowd of people and make it look as if he was sitting there alone like any other person enjoying the surrounding events, and what is the bottom line that will be charged to US taxpayers.

Another picture came to mind. Does it occur to Bush that he is sitting in the country that bought all of the red ink that he and his criminal administration could supply? Has Bush or any of his minions given any thought as to what we could use for collateral, I wonder?
I have. The highest debt ever, we thought at one time, was "charged" up by the Reagan/Bush Number One administration, but again, another Republican administration this time, outdid them all. We Americans cannot afford Republicans.
Debt, death, and destruction and people want to argue or even think about who to vote for? Why are those three "D's" not considered as dishonoring the US flag?
What could we call it when Bush went AWOL while serving in the military? What could we call it when the Supreme Court took the law into their own hands and placed Bush in the White House? When the Executive Branch fails the people, i.e., Bush was warned several times before 911 and did not warn the American people. He evidently took it seriously enough to warn Ashcroft and a few others not to fly commercial airlines. What symbol of our flag stands for lying to invade and murder over a million innocent people and displace millions more? And, back then, these Bush Republicans were just getting warmed up. Why? Because they feared no one, especially Democratic leadership or the DLC.
If we want Bush to be recognized for desecrating the flag, he will probably have to burn one, and many of our members of Congress, including Senator Clinton, voted to imprison those who would do so.
What is even more telling about the difference between US government and the American people, might be seen in a sample of a few state mottos. Many mottos don't match up with those whose citizens voted to represent them.
For instance, Arkansas's motto: Regnat Populus -- The People Rule; Alabama: Audemus Jura Nostra Defendere -- We Dare Defend Our Rights; Delaware: Liberty and Independence; Georgia; Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation; Iowa: Our Liberties We Prize, and Our Rights We Will Maintain; Kentucky: United We Stand, Divided We Fall; Missouri: The Welfare of the People Shall Be the Supreme Law; Nebraska: Equality Before the Law; Nevada: All for Our Country; New Hampshire: Live Free Or Die; New Jersey: Liberty and Prosperity; Pennsylvania: Virtue, Liberty, and Independence; Vermont: Freedom and Unity; Virginia: Thus Always To Tyrants; Wyoming: Equal Rights; District of Columbia: Justice for All.
Most of us Americans look to our US flag as a symbol of freedom and the unity of the states of this nation, one brotherhood, neighbor to neighbor ... life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for one and all. A living, breathing democracy. How is that possible for those Americans who put their trust in US leadership and US military, when they are either losing their jobs, their homes and livelihoods, losing their lives, or after serving this country, are homeless, without benefits, and living on the streets?
How is that possible for Americans who are constantly being harassed through Bush GOP legislation? Through constant privatization and constant deregulation ... the killing off of everything our flag symbolizes. A slow death of what every American wants to believe in. And, do we hear Americans complaining? Voicing their anger? Their rage? Not loud enough!
None of this is being headlined, except on the Internet. The big guy media treat Bush as if he was really somebody, not as the head of a branch of government that needs to be pursued for crimes against humanity, as if the lives of over 5,000 innocent Americans are not worth that ... as if the spent lives of over a million innocent men, women, and children are not worth seeking justice for them. It's called accountability for Afghanistan, Iraq, and New Orleans, and anyone in government who supported the Bush regime. Anyone and everyone.
What should be troubling us Americans this election year is that our government has gone from symbolic to symbiotic ... all three branches have members, Democrats and Republicans, who have formed relationships that have benefited only themselves and not the American people, who they are supposed to be working for. We need more than just change, we need a complete about-face. We need to take our flag back, our government back ... symbols and all.
