(A fact which made me smile)
A family friend took me
Who was covering the trial.
The defendant was quite silent
Very much the introvert
Unassuming and tiny in
His loose-fitting white shirt.
At times he seemed rather lost
In all the legal proceedings
Often sitting without moving
Throughout his lawyers' pleadings.
A courtroom artist nodded off
As I watched his techniques
I met the defendant's mother
Who pinched both of my cheeks.
The morning session broke for lunch
And a bathroom I needed to find
I raced past newsmen with microphones
Who wondered what was on my mind.
I didn't think The Fourth Estate
Were folks I should be shunning
I stopped and blurted, "No comment"
And then resumed my running.
