BARBARA'S DAILY BUZZFLASH MINUTE

Can someone please tell me what insane brain came up with these illogical, irrational, contradictory, rhetorical statements? “The surge is working, violence is down.” “The surge is working because violence is up in Basra and Baghdad.”

* * *

Remember when Repuglicans believed sacrifice and service in Viet Nam was not a recommendation for political office? Remember when losing three limbs in service to our country was secondary to what one does in political office today? Remember when Max Cleland was “swiftboated” [1] so viciously and vehemently that a “draft-dodging” deferment candidate would replace him in the Senate? Remember when, not so long ago, past performance did not equal current action? [2] Well, now, how can Repuglicans expect America to vote for “a true American hero,” a man who served 5 years in a POW camp in Viet Nam, John McCain, the man who wants to continue an illegal, preemptive, unnecessary war in Iraq today?

* * *

How, in the name of all that’s holy and some that’s not, can anyone trust those who made such a “colossal” mistake to continue making decisions that involve the safety and security of the United States of America? “Hayden: We got Iraq WMD report wrong.” “MR. RUSSERT: … looking back at what the American people were told about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, was there a colossal intelligence failure? GEN. HAYDEN: Yeah, we got it wrong. All right? ...” [3] And in answer to that last question -- NO, IT’S NOT “ALL RIGHT”!

* * *

To all those who think the radical “right” plans to get out of Iraq sometime in the future -- better think again, for they intend to stay in Iraq for years to come! [4]Video: Withdrawal from Iraq will ‘take years.’” [5] A vote for McCain equals 4 more years of Bush!

* * *

For those who believe “torture and abuse” is over, WRONG again! “MR. RUSSERT: … to the whole issue of the apprehension of a terrorist--or alleged terrorists and how they're treated … ‘A new U.S. Army manual bans torture and degrading treatment of prisoners, for the first time specifically mentioning forced nakedness, hooding and other procedures that have become infamous since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks’ ... ‘It … explicitly bans beating prisoners, sexually humiliating them, threatening them with dogs, depriving them of food or water, performing mock executions, shocking them with electricity, burning them, causing other pain and a technique called water torturing--or `waterboarding' that simulates drowning … Officials said the revisions are based on lessons learned since the U.S. began taking prisoners in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S.’ Now, that's the Army. GEN. HAYDEN: Right. MR. RUSSERT: Does not apply to the Central Intelligence Agency. GEN. HAYDEN: Correct.” [6]

“SEN. JOSEPH I. LIEBERMAN, I-CONN.: It pains me. I'm a Democrat who came to the party in the era of President John F. Kennedy. It's a strange turn of the road when I find among the candidates running this year that the one in my opinion closest to the Kennedy legacy, the John F. Kennedy legacy is John S. McCain.” Senator Lieberman, we knew President John F. Kennedy, and McCain is no John F. Kennedy! [7] And, if I may add, you, Joe Lieberman, are a pain in the rear, you are the real “Judas” Carville talks about!
