At a press conference yesterday, to which the press was not invited, President Bush answered a question from his shadow. The Presidents shadow asked whether he was doing a good job or a heck of a job as president.

Hey!! Who IS that shadowy figure lurking behind the Bush?

At 1034h EST as George W. Bush disembarked Air Force One in Philedelphia, , his shadow abruptly disassociated itself from the President, moving away at a sprint with 2 members of the Secret Service detachment in hot pursuit.

Eyewitnesses to the extraordinary event were heard to comment that it appears that now, Bush's last remaining supporter has deserted him.

At the filing of this story the shadow was still evading capture, and, though refusing official comment, a high level spokesman for the WH says that he remains hopeful that the Secret Service will be successful reuniting the pair.

Pressed for comment as to why the president seemed oblivious to the startling sequence of events, the spokesman offered that the president is far busy protecting the American people from the likes of Al-Queda and Iran and asks for your continued prayers of support.

An ancillary observation: A ground crewman downwind of the president says he thought he recognized the odor of alcohol on the president as he passed but admits he could be mistaken.

In what may be a scientific first, the president's shadow has announced that it can no longer follow the leader of the free world.

“I have been around this president long enough to know when it is time to move on” the shadow is reported as saying. Even with the president's approval rating hovering at around 24%, and the recent departure of many of Bush's long time staff, most insiders where shocked at the shadows recent decision to disassociate itself from the president.

One member of the administration on the condition of anonymity expressed concerned that this may be the beginning of a trend. If we start seeing house and senate republicans losing their shadows too, it would send a bad message to voters in 08'.

There has been some speculation that the shadow has signed a six figure book deal with a major New York publishing house. Some of the titles being bandied about “Bush: 3D but no depth”, “George...stop staring at the Sun”, “Bush's other brain”.

The White House has implemented a policy of dimming the lights at all presidential functions until a replacement is found. When asked about keeping the President in the dark, Vice President Cheney responded, “If you have a policies that are working, I don't see any benefit in challenging those strategies at this time”.

How glorious that we are allowed to worship both the shadow and the man. In future years, we will only be allowed to gaze longingly at the shadow, as Bush and Cheney will not lower themselves to be seen by mere citizens. Only those who donate enough will be allowed to the White House to make their offerings to the man, while we are forced to worship just the shadow.
