Pentagon Media Pundits

For reporting that is an embarrassment to the profession of journalism, and for being beholden to corporate paymasters rather than the citizens of America.

As the corporate mainstream media provides wall to wall coverage of a retired minister's comments, it is remaining silent about its use of some 75 embedded Pentagon television analysts. But the twist is that they were -- and are -- supposed to appear to be retired, independent commentators and experts.

As it turns out, however, The New York Times broke ranks and revealed that the so-called military "experts" have really been parroting talking points provided by the Pentagon. In short, instead of providing third party insight, they have been peddling propaganda.

From the conception of the Rockridge Institute in Northern California, BuzzFlash has been proud to support its important work in applying linguistic and cognitive science to advancing the "framing" of progressive issues. In fact, we were proud to be chosen by Rockridge for an exclusive weekly Monday column that represented an example of how to discuss and position subjects related to enhancing the public good.

Rockridge is most associated with its co-founder and nationally known promoter of "framing," George Lakoff. But we came to know that it had a wonderful, committed, intelligent staff that tirelessly worked on helping to gain the high ground from right-wing think tanks by creating strategies for asserting progressive values in a manner that was cogent and persuasive.

Unfortunately, we learned on April 21 that Rockridge must cease its work due to lack of sufficient funding.

Tony, Tony, Tony… a Nazi is a Nazi is a Nazi.

Oh Tony, you may be just a contender for a shot at the Republican nomination for U.S. Congressman in the 2nd District in Indiana, but last time you received 30% of the vote in the GOP primary.

So some of your GOP brothers and sisters must support your rather extremist outreach program, such as speaking at a recent Nazi rally:

A congressional candidate is defending his speech to a group celebrating the anniversary of Adolf Hitler's birth, saying he appeared simply because he was asked.

Tony Zirkle, who is seeking the Republican nomination in northern Indiana's 2nd District, stood in front of a painting of Hitler, next to people wearing swastika armbands and with a swastika flag in the background for the speech to the American National Socialist Workers Party in Chicago on Sunday….

For reporting that is an embarrassment to the profession of journalism, and for being beholden to corporate paymasters rather than the citizens of America.

Fred of Marietta, Georgia, nominated Neil Boortz as the BuzzFlash Media Putz of the Week because "He lies when it doesn't even matter! Thinks he's being cool with his racist innuendoes. Couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it!"

In short, the "libertarian" pundit put the boor -- "a churlish, rude, or unmannerly person" -- into Boortz. Neil supports some liberal issues as an alleged libertarian, but most of his audience are right-wingers to the max. So the libertarian side of him is pretty much submerged in his pro-Iraq war, flat tax, anti-Islam, anti-homeless people sentiments.
