Do you feel 'unified' over Michigan and Florida being seated at 100% voting status in Denver?

To no one's surprise, magically, Michigan and Florida will have full voting power in the upcoming Democratic National Convention.

Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic Party presidential nominee, as he wrote to the credentials committee:
"As these delegates go about the important business of the Convention, I believe Party unity calls for the delegates from Florida and Michigan to be able to participate fully alongside the delegates from the other states and territories. Accordingly, I ask that the Credentials Committee, when it meets on August 24 to approve the delegates for the National Convention, pass a resolution that would entitle each delegate from Florida and Michigan to cast a full vote.''

And since Obama will be the nominee, the states will get what he wants: a full vote. Michigan and Florida were awarded half votes in a day-long process on May 31.

So despite the DNC rules of taking away the vote 100% for the states who moved up their primary before the intended date, and the side agreements with Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina that prohibited campaigning (but not fundraising), buying local TV time, and working actively to take names off of ballots, Michigan and Florida will get 100% sitting and 100% vote in Denver.

So was all the mess worth it? After all, the Republicans took away half the vote, allowed their candidates to campaign, buy TV time, and be on the ballot. And so far, at least, half their vote is still taken away. Though likely, McCain will restore 100% voting on the convention floor to Michigan and Florida.

This announcement by Obama and the subsequent action by the DNC comes as no surprise. We knew that once Denver began, the states would have full voting powers, despite the madness of the last year or so. What was missing in the announcement, and what would be a nice and necessary gesture is the return of the 4 delegates from Michigan that should have gone in the Clinton camp. After all, Obama will be the nominee, and party unity needs to be the top priority.

So do you feel "unified"? Do you think Michigan and Florida should be seated at 100%? Are you more concerned with fairness of the process than party unity?

Florida

I live in Florida Florida state Democrats and Republicans screwed us out of a vote. They said it won't count Obama and others did not campaign here. The democratic party needs to deal with this before the next primary. The democrats entire primary system sucks and is undemocratic. Even the national general election is undemocratic. I believe it should be by popularity count and not 7-7 on tuesday. I believe it should be 7am Friday - 7pm sunday

Counting Delegates for Fl & Mi

It should have happened during the primaries when it mattered. Of course then Obama would not be sitting so pretty then. This is just to little to late. This guy thinks it is all about him and the media frenzy around him. He lost my vote a long time ago when he played the race card on the Clintons and he will never get it back. I just hope they come and knock at my front door down here in Florida to ask for my vote. They won't like what I have to say to them then when I ask them to remove themselves from my premises and take all his empty promises with them.

Just another reason voters are leaving the DNC !

Obama only wants unity when it benefits him. The voters that support the DNC have been screwed and will continue to be treated like dirt! Obama has flipped flopped so many times since he has gotten the DNC to appoint him the candidate! Every time McCain comes up with something, Obama changes his mind and goes with whatever the McCain camp said. Does he have any original plans of his own? Doesn't seem so! We might as well vote for McCain! Obama supporters have caused a lot of us to take our vote to others. Anyone that supported Hillary was treated like dirt and called racist. My family will never support the DNC with votes or money. Over the years we have been taken in a scam by the party. With Pelosi, Reid, Dean, Kennedy and Kerry it is even worst!

Divided Over This Unity Effort

Are we shocked to discover that Obama has recited from the script of the standard slander the GOP levies on the Democrats? Oh, wait! For it to be slander, the script would have to be false. Obama has very generously allowed the media to record his utterances when he opposed giving Florida and Michigan what he now today asserts he wants, so there is no way it can be slander in this case. If Obama manages to win this selection, it will only be because McCain and his motley crew of political cutthroats are even more inept.

No Surprise, No Big Deal

The fact that both Florida and Michigan will have their full delegations seated with full voting rights is of no surprise. What other decision could the nominee, and the (no rules) Rules Committee come to. There is no way in this election atmosphere that the party could afford to disenfranchise any of the delegates from those two vital states. The fact that they violated party rules is of absolutely no importance in the larger scheme of things. The party must do all it can to ensure that both Florida and Michigan are appeased by the party. The party must keep those two states in play.

I live in Florida and was

I live in Florida and was told my vote would not count. I stayed home. How many thousands are like me? I got screwed.

Someone has a picture of Obama in bed with Rev. Hagee

This is suicidal. Mrs. Bill Clinton hasn't conceded or released her delegates. This is another step towards her blowing up the convention, and handing the election to McCain. There can be no other explanation for Obama doing this.

Mathematically Certain.

The bogusness is directly proportional to the number of crooks. What a sick joke the whole process is. Just so long as crook media gets more money.

Not the whole truth

Donna Brazile was just on CNN saying that although the whole delegation would be seated, they would still only have one half vote each. We can't change the rules for voting she said but having them all there will unify the party. Yeah, sure......dream on Donna.

CAN WE PLEASE WIN FIRST then complain about the process

a win would feel real good this november... why are the polls showing a tie... all numbers have been people leaving the GOP ... huge turnouts at obama events.... we are being lied to about the GOP.... they are dying and the conservative press is preparing to help the theft of 2008 dont let it happen...

Rules... We don't need no stinkin' Rules!

I am disappointed. DNC Rules don't mean thing.

Another Obama Error

Enthusiasm for Obama is being hurt by his own changing positions and then trying to explain, in unconvincing fashion, in intelluctual terms why he changes. He is giving new unsavory meaning to change. This, combined with the idiotic McCain smearhead created ads did no good for Obama last week. Dems had hope in Obama, but just like always the Dems manage to shoot themselves in the foot. This is deploreable, considering the weak candidate he is facing. No more $ for Obama from this voter. I feel let down by his trying to attract middle roaders while ignoring the progressive base.

Who Cares?

Who cares about this? Every rule in the book has been broken for over eight years now and no one has been held accountable. The REAL issue here is the election fraud and purging of voters since 2000 which is still happening as you read this. Why haven't any politicians faced this and fixed it? Without fair elections nothing else matters.

We Should All Care!

Does anyone know about "enabling?" The next primary will be a free-for-all!
