Charlie Crist: don't get married just to be VP. If you are gay, just open the closet door already.

You go away on vacation and you hope you don't miss much. I haven't checked my mail yet, but I'm hoping I got an announcement of the engagement of Governor Charlie Crist (R-FL).

In case you haven't heard the exciting news, Crist is engaged to New York socialite Carole Rome. Crist and Rome have seen each other for nine months.

Now this will be Crist's second marriage. In the month Crist turned 33, he married Amanda Marrow, and they were divorced less than a year later.

Some may tell you that Crist's engagement is a front, as it were, for his vice presidential ambitions. After all, the last VP who was a bachelor was Rufus King.

King, like Crist, was reported to be a homosexual, though King lived for a long time with James Buchanan, our only bachelor president.

We can only hope things will go well for Crist, and hope this marriage lasts longer than a year.

But Gov. Crist, if you are gay, don't hurt this woman just for political expediency. Just come out and say so, and let the chips fall where they may. Stand up for who you are.

Oh, that's right. You're a Republican. You have to hide your true feelings (and perhaps other stuff). That's a shame. If you were a Democrat, you could be who you are.

So he's a little feminine and she's a little masculine. What's the big deal? It just might work.

re: "If you were a Democrat, you could be who you are."

Oh yeah, right! When have we had a Dem. VP who was gay and out?? Does anyone honestly believe that of the over 250 Dems. in Congress, there is only one atheist? Idealizing Democrats lulls us into believing that everything will be alright if only Obama becomes president. Really, take a look at his pandering. American democracy is for sale to all high bidders. That is true of Republicans and Democrats alike. Democrats won't be quite so bad, but remember Clinton had a Dem. majority in Congress for the first part of his presidency, and we ended up with "don't ask, don't tell" and no universal health care, while he continuously bombed Iraq and let a reported half a million people there starve to death - mostly children. Things will be better if Obama wins, but unless we fight for completely publicly funded elections in Congress and for the Presidency, we the people will not be the real constituancy. Most Americans are so ill informed that twisted and spun 30 second sound bites are what determines their vote.

Blowing

Wasn't this guy in "The Mighty Wind"? I think he played the baritone.

Note to Tahoe Progressive

This is not an 'accusation' out of thin air, or made up because people don't like him. The evidence has already been compiled. Crist is as gay as I am. In fact, he may even be gayer than I am. No need for you to be an apologist for the man. You and the rest of the nation will finally see Crist for who he really is. Soon. Carole Rome? Well, she ALREADY knows. She'd love to be a VP's wife.

Okay, Leader - Where Can We Find Said Evidence?

Not that I doubt you - but I married late, too, and until the day he died my Dad thought my wife was a "beard" and I was a "faggot" (yeah, he's from that generation)....

Is he gay?

Just because a man doesn't get married until late doesn't mean he is gay, whether he's a repub or dem. Anyway, is it important? The only reason it would be is if Crist is actually gay but hides in the closet and advocates legislation against the gay community.

Actually, Yeah

I'd rather start calling him a "closeted hypocrite" once we're sure he is, rather than just going "Oh, he's in his Fifties and single? Must be GAYYYY!!!"

I'd like a bit more evidence of that before snerking at his marriage first, thanks just the same....
