It's All About Me (MSM), Isn't It, Charlie Gibson?

BE ELECTED
by Christine Bowman

Let's see. Voters care about the economy and Iraq and whether candidates are honest and ethical and will change our country's direction. So far, 13,689,293 Americans have gone to the trouble of voting for Barack Obama, and 12,861,985 have so honored Hillary Clinton, according to the estimates of Real Clear Politics.

But enough about us. More importantly, what does mainstream media care about?

Democrats muddying one another. Gaffes. Gotcha moments. It's the bread and butter of television, as we know all too well. The bottom line. Nielsen numbers. Advertising dollars (which come from campaigns, not only from corporate sponsors).

That's why last night's so-called "debate," featuring Clinton and Obama in supporting roles, spent over 50 minutes at the top of the show on personal attacks and right-wing, media-generated gotchas like the flag pin "issue" and a 1960s anti-war activist. Even sadder is the fact that the Democratic Knock-Down, Drag-Out brought to us by ABC News/Disney was the first over-the-air televised debate since ABC's other one which aired January 5th from New Hampshire. Economically constrained regular folks who don't pay for cable have seen nothing else.

Thank you, Charlie Gibson!

Kudos to you, George Stephanopoulos!

Your show was great entertainment for anyone who wanted to see Barack Obama, very possibly our next American president, squirm. We doubt your show helped Hillary Clinton much either since you ignored her for most of the night except to bring up sniper fire.

The show definitely came up short for Pennsylvania voters who have to choose their candidate by next Tuesday. Guess they'll just have to grab a newspaper or go to the Internet for answers to their substantive questions.

You ABC pundits really had us in your hands, but then you dissed us. Your viewers weren't tuning in to Fox's "American Idol," after all. We came to ABC News seeking in-depth political coverage. Silly us.

Don'tcha wonder how many viewers hit their remote control buttons before the end? Do you get it, yet, Charlie, why the crowd was turning on you?

P.S.: Look here, Charlie, Mission Accomplished! ABC bumps up on Democrat slugfest: "At 8 p.m. ABC was first with a 2.7 for the first hour of the debate: ... [but] Fox took the lead at 9 p.m. with an 8.5 rating for 'American Idol,' while ... ABC was third with a 2.8 for the second half of its debate ..."

Great comment,Christine.

Great comment,Christine. The "major Media" is definitely a BAD HABIT for American consumers... America's couch-bound TV consumers.... Unfortunately, much of this "bad habit journalism" is to a great extent the product of down-right shoddy Democratic leadership and timid candidates, who could not even try to hold Mr. Bush to ANY of his 2000 campaign pledges. - When Mr. Bush tried to ram his most PARTISAN nominees down the Democrats' throats in early 2001, the Dem. Senate leaders should have united IN FRONT OF A TV screen PLAYING VIDEO of Bush's "I PLEDGE A MORE BIPARTISAN TONE IN WASHINGTON" comments (made at each and every one of his 2000 campaign events and speeches), and FORCED the Major Media morons to re-examine those Bush pledges. When Democrats don't DEFINE THE ISSUES & STAND UP for those Americans under assault by Bush-GOP policies, the "major media" has the LUXURY of focusing on the trivial, the inane, the DISTRACTION ISSUE.... ....the one-party rule tactic of elminating the opposition by character attacks that drag down the opponent.... As Al Gore _ALLOWED HIMSELF_ to become the victim of 1,000 cuts during Campaign 2000. VP Gore (perhaps a slave to his own perceived dignity of office) REFUSED to point out the signature agenda of then Texas Gov. George W. Bush: budget DEFICITS, SLASHING social programs (including the up-and-running pre-school, after-school, and health-care for Texas minority & disadvantaged school-children programs, proven to save taxpayers money in the long run), in favor of budget-busting TAX CUTS FOR THE Texas WEALTHY. There are FOUR MAIN ISSUES in campaign 2008: The Economy, national security and the war in Iraq, our long-term environmental health, and Health Care. ANY Democratic candidate, at any level (much less at the million-dollars-an-hour presidential level) MUST BE ABLE to take ANY INANE distraction question, and TURN IT BACK TO THOSE 4 issues, INSTANTLY! Here's a simple example: "Senator is the fact that you don't wear a flag pin indicate that you are not patriotic?" Correct answer: "The flag, and flag-pin, are SYMBOLS of us Americans UNITING TOGETHER TO FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION, to form a stronger bond that will allow us to provide for the SECURITY _and_ COMMON WELFARE of ALL Americans. Some folks try to HIJACK that symbol for the exclusive use of the national security issue, while they ignore the "common good" part that the flag also stands for. And their approach to national security may not be that good for America, either. I'm glad you asked that question, Charlie, because I believe that the flag is a great symbol of AMERICANS WORKING TOGETHER, and not just one narrow group exploiting it for their own benefit on the national security issue." SEE HOW EASY THAT WAS ??!! IN a lighter vein, check out this great cartoon of the US press/media as a pack of hound dogs, contendedly loafing around Master Bush's feet as he reclines in front of the fireplace in the library of his hunting estate. http://www.oilempire.us/graphics/goodpuppy.jpg

MSNBC agrees with ABC's handling of the debate.

For the past few hours MSNBC-the-network has obviously given orders to each of it's hacks/hosts to defend ABC fervently. One young female dimwit actually argued with the Washington times, who thought the debate was a substanceless sham, "I get emails from people all the time asking why Obama isn't wearing a flag pin". Well, we know where her fingers have been.

But here's the root cause of Hillary's problems that a million hacks like her and Gibson can't repair:
Had Hillary, say, 25 minutes into the immaterial bullshit coming out of ABC, stopped and said angrily to ABC -as she did with the rant of "Shame on You" to Obama in Ohio - and said "Shame on You ABC", for turning this important debate into a joke..., all, and I mean ALL would have been instantly forgiven of Hillary.
For had she offered one simple brief moment of humility toward her competitor, had she shown her "leadership skills" and stood for him for just that one selfless minute, Hillary may well have succeeded in possibly giving her what she wants.

But she didn't, couldn't, wouldn't never has and never will be capable of one shred of decency to anyone without a string attached.
And Bill proved what true birds of a feather they are when he came out today and said "Hillary was great".
Nationalism is not terrorism. And an adversary is not an enemy.

3 or 4 on 1

Depending on how it is viewed, last night's "debate" was more like a gang bashing on Mr. Obama. It was a 3 on 1 with Charlie & George lobbing lopsided get-Barack-and-make-him-squirm with the chirping in by the unstable Hillary who made it a 4 on 1 acting in proxy for McCain. This was sub intelligent poor excuse for a debate exercise. One more thing---if the guilt-by-association game is being played out on Obama, let's play it on Hillary. She becomes an impeachable philandering liar because she has lived with one. Shame on her and the Dems who just may have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and just may have shot themselves in the foot in allowing the Hillary Republican smear tactics to go on. She cries, embellishes the truth, and has memory problems. I thought she was post menopausal, but she acts like she is still going through the change. Do we want her in charge of the most powerful military on earth and answering the 3 am call? I think not. But the point may be moot. Last night was the capper and McCain is now the new leader because of the huge Hillary ego and Charlie and yet another George. A good, intelligent, composed, cool, articulate, logical man is being dragged through the mud by Hillary and the MSM, and the US and the world are the losers.

polls

Polls I've sen and radio talk show 51% said Obama won, 44% for hillary

Don't count Obama out

Voters are watching and thinking. Most can see what is happening. It's more of the Republican smearing, even when it is done by Democrats. They are learning how it works. So don't count Obama out. We've got a long way to go in a weakening economy with a weakening dollar. It is quite refreshing to hear Obama speaking the truth, even when it is not politic. Meanwhile, both McCain and Clinton (sadly) keep shooting themselves in the foot. McCain seems to be growing increasingly addlepated on the campaign trail. Meanwhile, Clinton is listening to the wrong advice. She's so anxious to seem war-like that she is getting scary. I'd vote for Clinton over McCain with my fingers crossed. But I'd far prefer Obama...and I voted for Clinton in the primary. Pat Williams
