Hastert, Cheney, Bush and Boehner Go Easy on Pedophiles and An Adulterer Accused of Beating His Mistress, Half His Age

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

You would think that with the GOP betrayal of our youth still red hot in the news, the Republican leadership wouldn’t be raising money for a Congressman who last year was outed for allegedly trying to strangle his mistress.

But you would be wrong.

Pennsylvania Republican Don Sherwood is 64, married and the father of three daughters.

But last year, Cynthia Ore, 29, sued Sherwood. It seems Sherwood had been keeping her as his Washington mistress. Ms. Ore says that Sherwood "repeatedly struck her in the face, neck, chest and back, ‘violently yanking’ her hair and repeatedly tried to choke or strangle her. Afterward he would tell her he would never beat her again, then beg her not to leave him."

"After news accounts of the incident and police report were published, Mr. Sherwood issued a statement apologizing for the ‘pain and embarrassment’ he caused his supporters and family. He has declined to talk in detail about his relationship with Ms. Ore."

Eventually, Sherwood made a confidential financial settlement with Ms. Ore, thus keeping the case from being aired in a courtroom. He admitted to the adulterous affair with a woman half his age, but denied that he physically abused her.

Now, he is behind in his race in a normally "safe Republican" seat, so Hastert, Boehner, Bush and Cheney are going to bat for him to try and keep the district in the GOP column. They are all holding fundraisers for him and endorsing his "leadership."

You would think after covering up for a pedophile and keeping him in the House leadership and chair of the committee that oversees the safety of our children from sexual predators, you would think that the Republican leadership wouldn’t be out raising money for an adulterer accused of beating and strangling his mistress.

But you would be underestimating the moral turpitude of the guys at the top of the GOP.

The Republican leadership in America cares about only one thing: power.

They have no other values.

They put our youth and women at risk.

They are shameless and without decency.

If you want to argue with that judgement, tell us what they are doing raising money for Don Sherwood.

Go ahead, just tell us.

Pedophile Schmedophile

Ok, Ok, let's not mince words here and call him what he really is...a pervert!

Foley is not a pedophile

Pedophilia is a sexual attraction to prepubescent children. This is a clinical definition that has certain implications The defining criterion is that the child is not old enough to become a biological parent. For most, puberty, the point of sexual maturity, has arrived by age twelve or so, but it has been observed in children as young as nine or even less. Ephebophilia is the term used to describe a sexual preoccupation with post pubescent adolescents. Thus, Foley is an ephebophile, since the page he was writing to was 16, and presumably past puberty. What makes the distinction important is the biology of sexuality, of which the purpose is reproduction. Since pedophilia is confined to cases where the youngster is not capable of reproduction, it is, biologically, pathological. Ephebophilia involves the possibility of reproduction, and therefore is not biologically pathological. Similarly, in psychology, attraction to adolescents is not considered pathological unless it interferes with other relationships, becomes obsessive or causes distress to the younger person while attraction to prepubescent children is always considered pathological.

Of course the legality of ephebophile relationships is a different matter. The age of consent varies widely from state to state and from country to country, and sometimes is based not on the actual ages but the difference in ages. In many places, the age of marriage is less than the age of consent, thus making it possible for someone to be married to a person they’d be arrested for having sex with as a single, or possessing “child pornography” for having an intimate photo of their spouse.

Pedophile or Ephebophile, he committed crimes

And, if there's such a thing as equal treatment under the law, Foley should get no special consideration in our so-called system of justice, meaning that Foley's being a Congressman is to cut him no slack. Otherwise what have we got? Nazi America, that's what.

Trying to do some Science for Republicans here?

... sure you must be a Republican! Oh yeah, let's have a scientific explanation of rape, abuse and beating. After that creatures like Foley look less evil.

To obvious!

You got it wrong

I am not a Republican, nor do I like them. What I am concerned with is using language accurately and responsibly. Your reply shows what you don't know - I did not defend Foley, nor did I try to justify what he did. All I did was point out that calling him a pedophile was incorrect.

If more people were concerned with language, we wouldn't have a nation of semi-literate sheep that fall for political buzzwords that frame arguments in favor of our de facto one party government.

"Scandalous All Around"

The LA Times' editorial today on Foley-gate. The rag chastizes the House Republican leadership for not having sounded the alarm on Foley's pedophilia, but says nary a word about a cover-up. Instead the Times says "All of them violated one of the prime rules for protecting against sexual predators. When confronted with something unsettlying, don't judge the matter yourself, call an expert." In other words the Times attributes the "inattentiveness" of the House Republican leadership in checking out reports about Foley's propensity for seducing boys to a lack of knowledge on their part about the disease, pedophilia. Yes, they were unwise in not following through, but what the heck, that's not a crime.

Which raises the question what if President Bill Clinton, instead of having been caught for getting a blow-job from one of his interns, had been caught preying upon children? And suppose there were reliable reports of a cover-up by the House Democratic leadership? In its editorial on the subject way back then would the Times have censored the Democratic leadership for their "inattentiveness" but not have said a word about a cover-up? Yeah, sure!

"Scandalous All Around", cont.

Which proves that the LA Times is part of the cover-up and so is the rest of the mainstream media. This is because the powers that be simply can't accept responsibility for having enabled Foley in his preying upon young boys. Once they admit to having been a party to this crime, they'll be goners, on the way out, all washed-up. Why? They'll have blown their cover, that's why.

Pedophile GOP campaign manager fired, but not soon enough

Just days after a report surfaced on The Blue State and ABC News about a GOP campaign manager's history of sexual encounters with minors, that individual has been fired. Steve Aiken was the campaign manager for Randy Graf, a Republican candidate for U.S. House from Arizona. After Aiken's firing late on Monday, Graf's campaign issued a statement:

"Randy Graf has terminated his campaign manager, Steve Aiken, effectively immediately."

The statement also quoted Graf himself:

"In fact, as a State Legislator I have always worked hard to protect victims of sex crimes and my heart goes out to all of the victims in this case and in every case like this."

But if Graf cared about the victims so much, how come he wavered for almost five days after the story surfaced about Aiken's pedophilia before firing him? In fact, five days ago, the Graf campaign even defended Aiken from the allegation:

Aiken says the candidate, Graf, was fully aware of the conviction when he was hired as campaign manager.

"What he did was no more serious than providing a teenager with beer," Graf told ABC News. "I believe Steve when he says he was falsely accused."

While the ABC News report was where the story originally surfaced, this web site dug a little further into Steve Aiken's past. Just a few years back, he was the Communications director of the Traditional Values Coalition, which helped rally 43,000 churches against homosexuality and Harry Potter. Today, he hosts his own radio show based out of Tucson, called Straight from the Hip, that he claims is the fastest growing radio talk show in Arizona.

Personally, I would like to thank the web site CrooksandLiars.com for linking to my original story on Friday, which helped play a huge role in getting this guy fired. Although ABC News had a great initial report into this man's questionable past, this firing would not have been possible had it not been for the huge responsive outrage from the Netroots.

Lastly, the Graf campaign's firing was delayed, lazy and downright phony. We need to help the Arizona Democratic Party defeat this guy in November.

Hastert tells Rush those kids are "Out to get him"

Daily Kos: State of the Nation

Dennis Hastert Says Foley Victims Are "Out To Get Him", Against War on Terror
by Hunter
Tue Oct 03, 2006 at 01:32:54 PM PDT
Simply amazing. Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, on Rush Limbaugh's show, says it's all the Democrats' and the kids' fault:

SPEAKER HASTERT: ...they drop it the last day of the session, you know, before we adjourn on an election year. Now, we took care of Mr. Foley...asked him to resign...We're trying to build better protections for these page programs.
But, you know, this is a political issue ... what we've tried to do as the Republican Party is make a better economy, protect this country against terrorism -- and we've worked at it ever since 9/11...and there are some people that try to tear us down. We are the insulation to protect this country, and if they get to me it looks like they could affect our election as well.

****

...Hastert manages to say that it's all a conspiracy by Democrats and/or by Foley's victims, and he says the kids who dared report the child sex predator the GOP had been shielding in their ranks are trying to "tear down" efforts to protect this country against terrorism. He says he's the "insulation" to protect this country -- when all the press reports out there say America would be stupid to trust Dennis Hastert to protect a Boy Scout troop.

Read here to see how those kids were just PUTTING up with the foul creep Foley, and not egging him on, as Hastert and Limpblob claim:

The Powers That Be Always Lie and Cover-Up

How to stop them? We the people change the world, that's how. Which begins with our winning the November election.

Oh, yeah?

We the people and how many electronic voting machine hackers?

You ready to challenge the results when they steal it again?

Morality has nothing to do with it

The above named adulterer and domestic abuser, Don Sherwood, at one time had, being that he was in a "GOP safe" district, a considerable campaign war chest. More money, in fact, than was warranted for a district that DCCC chair Rahm Emanuel declared unwinable for Democrats.

Sherwood took the excess funds he raised and set up Don's PAC and doled out money to various Republican candidates in tight races. You may recall that a Vermont GOP candidate for the US House returned a donation from Don' PAC after l'affaire Sherwood came to light.

The same is true for Mark Foley. In a "safe" Republican distrct, that Rahm Emanuel likewise chose to ignore, Foley amassed a war chest of upwards of $3 million. And as an ex-Congressman he can still donate it to various Republican candidates throughout the country.

I do think, however, many GOP politicians are sincere in their beief in a god. It just happens that that "god" is covered with faces of dead US presidents.

So they (GOP) believe in God?

...strange God they have, who allows murder, torture, abuse and rape.

Two more child predators HONORED by GOP!!

It seems INCREDIBLE, but in 2002 the National Republican Campaign Committee named first ONE, then ANOTHER child molester "Republican of the Year!"

Why don't they just change the honor to "Child GOPredator of the Year?"

The Republican from VA molested 2 of his own kids, plus 4 more and was sentenced to 26 years in prison. The Colorado Republican was also convicted on 6 counts of sex crimes, but apparently, the NRCC never got the memos on these two it tried to honor!

I don't think anyone's tied these two events together...now would be a good time, Buzzflash (hint hint!) --- if you could spare another editorial!

Republicans Who Like Children

March 26, 2002

In December, Colorado Republican Party activist Randal David Ankeney, 30, was charged in another sexual assault incident, following his July arrest for assaulting a 14-year-old girl he had met in an Internet chat room. (The December arrest involved what the Colorado Springs Gazette termed a "girl" but whose age was not disclosed.) And in February, the National Republican Congressional Committee withdrew the "Republican of the Year" award that had been scheduled to be presented to Virginia party activist Mark A. Grethen, 44; the committee had just learned of his conviction on six counts of sex crimes involving children.

"Republican of the Year" Mark A. Grethen

Mark A. Grethen was a great Republican. Thanks to his commitment to the conservative agenda, and his impressive history of financial support for GOP candidates and the National Republican Campaign Committee, Mr. Grethen was named "Republican of the Year" and was invited to Washington, D.C., by none other than U.S. Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia. But it turns out that the Republican Party wasn't Grethen's only obsession. He's also likes molesting kids, and has a 26-year prison sentence to show for it. Of course, given the GOP's history of contempt for the law, it seems that Grethen was the perfect candidate for recognition. And considering the tough competition he got from first-rate lawbreakers like Ken Lay, I guess he really had to go that extra mile to get noticed by the award committee.

Check this out! There are some democrats too!

Re: Going Easy

Let's see, GWB was supposed to bring "honesty and dignity" back to the White House? Was that the catch-phrase he used? Hmmmm.

Can we constuct an Alphabet of Republican Corruption? Here is a beginning:

Abraomoff, Bush, Cheney, DeLay, Enron, Foley, Gannon, Hastert, ...

X-cellent!

keep going!

Don't ask Don't tell

Men who rape young boys are almost never homosexuals. This has been true since the Roman and Greek practices condemned in the Bible and mistaken for homosexuality. Men who rape little boys want power, not sexual gratification; and they are generally heterosexual and the ultra-conservatives of the day.

It is a power game.

Right. But the Grand Old Pedophile Party should be brought to justice. Moreover if somebody is that sick, he needs to be in a mental institution and not in politics.

It gets worse

Let's look at scandal-gate from another angle:

During the Levy/Condit scandal, we were inadvertently instructed how ANY law enforcement group, or quasi-fact-finding commission, conducts investigations. We learned we are so suspicious of one another we are driven to report someone emptying a jewelry box into a dumpster in the suburbs. We learned the contents of our computers hard drives are siezed and all contents fully scrutinized. NOW we come to learn our leak buying media whores will freely publish any and all evidence siezed by law enforcement and make it not just public, but AMP it with full-blown attention-grabbing innuendo. We learn IMs are FAR better scumfood than TV. We learn we are the same people stoning each other in Shirley Jackson's chapbook "The Lottery," and the very same angry mob in that famous Twilight Zone episode who charged en masse against their neighbor during a power failure.

I am not saying we are wrong, I am saying we have been brought to this insane state unwittingly. We are products of the media still. They shout, we jump. We jump HIGH!

The media is just a profitable reflection of our culture. A "pay-for-play" mirror. And we know, don't we, who controls the media?

Of course, the point is not about media whores, or us, both of which are helplessly locked into strict and limited cultural choices. The point lies with the climate established by DEMONS who use the culture against us. We're only the tools they use to conceal their carelessness and the tools used to cover their demonic mission. We're the bought and sold slaves serving their purpose.

But after learning so much, we're still willing to take more as if it isn't happening, as if we are inviolate, as if we are ALL blind, deaf and mute. Here we are, 6 years into the redefinition of reality, and we have become our own arch-conservative republican enemy, despite feeble protests to the contrary. We are innefectual and we are working for the DEMONS. This is exactly what they wanted from the start.

Saute'd

I'm so incensed at the state of our mis-government, I could burn the room and the smell would not be enough to get rid of the stench generated by the fascists in our administration. Everything that is pointed out to them as an area of mismanagement is relegated to just politics, which through their own projection, is what is primary to them. Destruction of our social network and support systems, creating a fascist state, disolving the protections of our Constitution, pandering to the worst elements of human nature - pedophilia - religious bigotry - class warfare - corruption - torture; all in the name of security. This is classic Fascism.

This is the political aim of the Republicans. This has to stop. The only people who can stop them are "We the People". This group has to be stopped, voted out of office, indicted, impeached, sent to the prisons they instituted, and not allowed to see the freedoms they are so intent on destroying for the rest of us.

Only then could we feel that the democratic process we enjoyed until this millenium will again be available to all Americans. Only then will there be consequences for misusing the powers of the various branches of government. Only then will "We the People" obtain true freedom and re-establish a "government of the people, by the people, for the people"

This sounds angry. I am angry! I am fried, toasted, saute'd, grilled, burnt and roasted. I will do what I can to get back our government. Can we all?

YES!

Any incumbent Rep MUST be voted out of office. The thought of a Dem president and a Dem Congress is as frightening as has been the GOP leading us down the drain. Bush and the GOP are flushing our nation down the toilet. VOTE ALL GOP OUT OF OFFICE. Yes! Yes! Yes!

For blackmail to work as a

For blackmail to work as a mechanism of "discipline", every so often someone has to be thrown under the bus as an object lesson for others.

This is deep, deep politics.

Remember this:
http://www.oldamericancentury.org/conspiracyofsilence2.wmv

This Will Crack You Up!

I'm not making this up - this morning while listening to C-SPAN a caller blamed this whole Foley thing on ... you guessed it - CLINTON!

Seriously ... their claim was because Clinton's first action when he went into office was to approve of gays in the military and such fostered this acceptance of the gay culture allowed it to flourish(?)

My God! What are they putting in the Kool-Aid these days?

Sick, sick, sick.

The GOP is a sick, sick, sick political party. The greater problem even than this failed political party is that the Dems are equally sick, sick, sick. For me, I'm voting every running Rep out of office- they must not remain. And I'm faced with incumbent Dems who are just as crappy. When given an alternative- I'm voting for any party other than these two. I'm throwing away my vote- or am I? If Dems would close our borders, support our soldiers and bring them home, would eliminate the SPP program... if anyone running for office in either party had any integrity...

The Party of Morals?

Most people know that the conservatives are neither “moral” nor represent the “majority”. It seems that the conservatives are much more concerned with their "image" than the welfare of the children, that they are suppose to protect. This should be testament enough to the real “values” of the conservative movement.

http://conservatard.wordpress.com

Welfare of the Children

For the sake of argument, I will accept your judgment that conservatives are neither moral nor the majority. That does not, however, automatically confer these attributes upon the liberals. (Logical Fallacy #24: The False Dilemma)

If you are intellectually honest, Mr. Conservatard, then you will admit that the liberals who sat on this story for more than a year, waiting until just before the election to leak this information, were also not concerned with the "welfare of the children."

In my view, anyone on either side of the isle who knew about Foley's alleged predatory proclivities and did not come forward is culpable. I suspect that we will see the democratic leadership (yes, the dems) working very hard to get this story off the front page.

-Wesley Mouch

!!! PEACE NOW !!!
Convert to ISLAM!

Very true, and yet...

Your warning regarding the potential moral equivalence between dems and repubs (heavens forbid) is well taken but requires elaboration. The story of Oedipus would have been a lot less interesting had Oedipus not been an arrogant blowhard, making judgements and pronouncements of others before thinking how and where they might play out. Thus high schoolers learn an important lesson before they venture forth into the world, Wesley. One of the political parties in question set itself forth as the one which, by its inherent virtue, would "restore integrity"; they would be the rescuers of morality and decency and bring honesty and "family values" back to American life in general. At the same time, they castigated the other party, its leaders and its adherents, as morally degenerate, dishonest, culturally and ethically incapable of government and decent living. And it is this massive hypocrisy, Wesley, that YOU will acknowledge if YOU are intellectually honest.
I would like you, since you have made the assertion that "liberals" sat on this story for more than a year, to supply us all with the sources for, and names of those SPECIFIC "liberals" you are accusing of complicity in the cover-up. And be aware that a Limbaugh quotation will not suffice.
The Gerry Studds affair, I believe, has some relevance here because in 1983, the House of Representatives was solidly Democratic. When the congressional page revealed the affair, the democratic majority, rather than sit on this information, promptly and openly investigated Mr. Studds and publicly censured him. His was a moral failure to my mind, but then he was not known for his harsh judgements of others. Do you see, with your laser beam of intellectual honesty, how the Oedipal twist of arrogance was missing in that case where this case is positively dripping with it? The Bible warns extensively of the unwiseness of one's judging the pecadillos of others while one's own skivvies are down around one's ankles and one's tumescence is waggling around in the breeze.
Please get us those sources, Wesley.

Taliban or other religious or value extremists.

Get the extremists out and lock them away! The current American government are the Talibans of the West.

And please stop to talk about values, if you think it is a good value to murder and torture people abroad.

Pretty soon the conservatards will have NOTHING

Have you seen how many are jumping ship now that Frist has endorsed the TALIBAN?

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/10/2/183139/861

Yeah, that's being real tough on terrorists...what do they have left?

HEY, MAINSTREAM MEDIA!!

Here's another story you could promote to EDIFY the American Public.

We KNOW you're reading Buzzflash. Must make you SQUIRM to see what good you could be doing if you weren't BEHOLDEN to your corporate masters. And you call yourselves JOURNALISTS? How do you face yourself in the MAKEUP mirror?

Hey, trolls, we know you're reading, too. Got your talking points together, yet? Here's an idea---you could trot out CLINTON again! We promise not to laugh TOO hard!!

Shocking, but not suprising

given everything else they have done in the past 6 years, campaigning for a man, who tried to strangle his mistress, is small potatoes compared to lying this nation into a war of aggression, in which thousands have been killed or maimed for life.

But covering up for a pedophile is way beyond the pale and we must not rest until every last person who knew about this, and did nothing, is no longer in Congress.

Whatvever it takes, I do mean WHATEVER! These pinheads have got to go, and I mean now.

Right.

The values of the GOP: murderer, ambush, torture and abuse accompanied by talking lots of "value" rubbish.

Despicable, yet predictable...

It's representative of the "Win at all costs" strategy that the Republicans have been employing - these pigs would sell out their Mothers to remain in power - hell, they've already sold out our children.

Expect it to get worse. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and if I were living in Iran right now, I'd be VERY nervous.

Distracted Already?

I think this sex thing is a big distraction. The big issues are Iraq, terrorism and the incompetance of the Bushites. Get real people. The administration must have its feet held to the fire consistently over the lies, the deaths, the mistruths, the deceptions of Iraq and its utter failure to do anything else that is useful in the midst of its cronyism. The only connection this has to the big picture is the "Lies and the Lying Liars" as Al Franken's book title says.

You have a point.

We should spend equal time lambasting Frist for capitulating to the Taliban.

But Hastert needs to go.
