Rumsfeld and Bush are Right About Evoking Nazism – But It’s the Mirror That They Should be Looking At

A BUZZFLASH EDITORIAL

Many a website, including BuzzFlash, has often quoted none other than Nazi leader Hermann Goering. Here is how an American Army interviewer recounts a conversation with Goering, as the latter awaited trial at Nuremberg:

"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Rumsfeld and Bush are on the right trail in bringing up Nazism, but it’s because the Goering quote applies to them to a "T."

It was former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card who said, before the campaign of lies and deception began that led us into the Iraq war, that the administration was not going to start the path to the Iraq War in August, because it is necessary to wait until after Labor Day to roll out a new "product."

There are two fundamental choices that an individual has to make in terms of deciding whether to follow the Bush Administration/Goering siren song of war as a tool to amass absolute power by a small elite group of plotters.

The first fundamental question is this: is the movement toward an Iran War being conducted primarily to protect us or primarily to achieve unprecedented one party power in the United States?

Of course, it is the second option, just as it was with Iraq. The Iraq War is such a fiasco, it made Iran the regional power it is today by removing Iraq as a restraining counterforce in the Middle East. In short, the Bush Administration created a War in Iraq that helped create the conditions for now "justifying" a war with Iran.

These are the tools used by dictators to direct the masses into a form of mass hysteria that leads to a population willingly giving up Constitutional powers and individual rights to the incontestable rule of a dictator.

The second fundamental choice begins with an accepted assumption: there are terrorists in the world (there always have been and always will be, although the motivations and actions will differ over time.) Given that there are terrorists in the world, the question is then, "Has this administration proven, even remotely, that it has the qualifications, combat experience, track record, integrity, depth of knowledge, respect for the military, or intellectual prowess to outflank the terrorists?"

The answer to that question is emphatically "no," based on six years of ruinous and deceitful experience. Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and George W. Bush are losers that are asking us all not to "give up" because they have failed us, the nation, and the world.

They are asking us to support an affirmative action war agenda for failures: them.

So when Rumsfeld and Bush trot out the latest focus group tested Frank Luntz sound bites about Nazis, they should look in the mirror.

Staring back at them will be the visage of Hermann Goering, Nazi.

RUMMY'S ULULATION OF WWIII FAVORS DEMS

Consider that Rummy et al have resoundingly earned an "inept" rating for motive, planning and execution of the war in Iraq. Then consider that they deem practically the entire Middle East to be their expanded war zone. It then follows logically that a leadership that failed miserably in a piss-ant small mission such as Iraq (with a population sans Kurds equal to metropolitan New York City and an area just twice the size of Idaho) is ludicrously ill prepared to take on an enormously expanded endeavor. To check this inept leadership voters must establish a countervailing force, a force for reason, diplomacy and honest and open accountability by voting in sufficient Democrats this fall to control one or both Houses of Congress. EXORCISE YOUR RIGHT, VOTE FOR NEW LEADERSHIP AND ACCOUNTABILITY !!

Things could get ugly.

If Republicans lose control of Congress in 06, or the Presidency in 08, the plutocracy could conceivably crash the market in a rush to take profits on their MIC holdings. Some of the most astute plutocrats have probably started doing so already and are busily wire transferring their profits to foreign banks. The rabble is getting restless. The Bush regime and Republican congress will do all they can to broaden the war, and no one should be surprised if the U.S. or Israel nukes Iran before the midterm election. But that will open a whole new can of worms and no matter what they do, their dreams of perpetual war are economically unsustainable and Military Industrial Complex stocks are going to drop precipitously. To be followed by an overall market drop due to a belated realization of impending political instability right here in the U.S.of A. We are in uncharted territory because the masses have lost confidence in both political parties. Things could get ugly. Heavens, who’s going to protect the plutocrats now?

With The Above In Mind

Being that it heralds a certain unless we the people do something about it coming event, namely our individual and collective descent into a world which, to the powers that be, has to be close to the paradise of their dreams; that place where there are no limits whatsoever on the amount, severotu and intensity of pain, misery and suffering that the powers that be can inflict on whomever they please. What's evem worse, just as we've been sayng, the powers that be have known all along that they're taking us down the dead-end strraght ahead. Up to now, to cover their asses, they've been playing dumb, teling us that there's nothing to it, "Why the whole thing is just one more of these evil and nasty games by which those crazies wierdos and assorted ghetto types, together with their allies, the have-nots get their jollies off by terrorizing us withe their calls for such scaru amd treaspmpis matters as troops out now, justice for the Palestinians and for the impeachment of President Bush. And, believe it or not, the reason for all this terrorizing is because they hate us. plain and simple; even though, mind you, we've always held them in such high regard and treated them so very, very well Goes to show, a good deed never goes unpunished. What the heck, though, we don't have enough time left to worry about the fate of our dear have-nots. We gotta cash in our chips quick-like now while the gettings still good., since there's no use hiding it any more, time actually is running out, fast too, with, if we're lucky, at the max maybe a century or so left before it's , '''Will the last one to leave please turn off the lights.'" So quite naturally, albeit out of the blue, considering how utterly hopeless it all appears, could this be the moment?

PNAC - Fascists in sheep's clothing - Rumsfield is one of them

This administration lives in world they hope to create. They are convinced that their world view will come to pass if we only stay the course. They will stoop to nothing in reaching their objective. Mr. Rumsfields' recent bizare and crazy attempt to paint the war (has congress declared war?) in Iraq to WWII yet another example of this administrations stubborn defense of their incompetence and utter failure in Iraq. They honestly believe that they can change the facts on the ground in Iraq with PR speeches.

Why do they do this ? How can any honest person speak untruths with no fear of accountablity ?

I believe the PNAC website reveals a source for Mr Rumsfields' bizare speech and this administrations failed policy.

On the homepage of PNAC, Willam Kristol pens the PNAC mission statement. I have footnoted the website.

To reach their objectives look at the first requirement their twisted world view lists as a means to reach its goal. Military strength.

I have also footnoted the listing of the primary members. Note the Mr. Rumsfield is part of this grandiose scheme to save the world.

The PNAC plan (This adminstration willing adopted) requires an ingnorant populace that sees the world though their eyes only. PNAC (Rove and company included) create their own reality regardless of the facts.

NOTE:
The Downing Street Memo is another example of this administrations' willing to use deception as means to achieve their objective. In their world view the end (PNAC mission statment realized) will justify their means.

"You're a Fascist." "No, You're a Fascist."

Very clever of the powers that be. Folks will become so confused by these back and forth accusations that the word fascism will lose itts meaning. What folks will understand, though, is that too many of us barely get by or are losing ground. Still we don't do anything about it because, well, that's just the way it is, or so we're told. And unfortunately the remedies that are being proposed are mostly same old same old business as usual status quo incrementalism plus or minus a few degrees and/or percentage points. Which clearly puts doomsday on our agenda, being that, unless we do something about it, the North and South Poles will be the only habitable places left on earth by the end of this century, what with global warming and this perpetual war on terror. What do we do about it? We tell it the way it really is, that's what. Where we're heading and how much worse it's going to be for our children and grandchildren if we the people don't see to it that there's peace on earth and goodwill to woman and man, with liberty justice and EQALITY for all, and with no have-nots nor left-outs. We start in the Middle East with troops out of Iraq now and justice for the Palestinian people and move on from there. Oh, one thing more. In order for us to be successful this has to be a do it ourselves evdeavor, with each and every one of us involved. Ready everyone?

The Art of Propaganda

Thank you, BuzzFlash, for responding intelligently to the latest vomit spewing forth from the Death’s Head skulls of Field Marshal Rumsfeld and Der Fuhrer Bush. The Propaganda Minister, Herr Rove, has decreed that more pablum be spoon-fed to The Party Faithful as The Homeland nears what the unsuspecting masses still refer to quaintly as…um…“elections.”

Howard Zinn said that virtually every war in history was lied into by those rallying their populations to a fever pitch, just as you have related what Goering shrugged off as “easy” and “simple.” Why is it any different today? We all have a natural tendency to believe in our leaders and a desire to feel safe in our homelands. Der Fuher—the strong father figure—has only to raise the specter of some hideous “evildoer” who threatens to destroy our way of life and way of thinking; then, he simply states over and over that only he and his party can protect us from harm. No one else can save you—especially the Democrats who are obviously in bed with the enemy. In this regard, Osama Bin Laden and George W. Bush are of one mind inasmuch as they both trash-talk their rivals to garner support for their reprehensible policies: moderate Muslims cannot preserve their faith from the onslaught of Western culture any more than Democrats can preserve the safety and freedom of Americans…never mind that Bush et al are terrorizing the population and eroding our constitutional liberties on a daily basis—more than Osama ever dreamed!

Thom Hartmann frequently reminds his listeners that the classic definition of fascism is the merging of corporate and state interests, the inception of Mussolini himself, the classic dictator. Sound familiar? As an informed electorate, it is essential that we reject the party line! We must resist the dead-end, circular logic of empty-headed pundits and political hacks; there is absolutely no excuse for the actions (and non-actions) of the Bush Administration and its cronies in Congress, which have led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, screwed the economy, and darkened the future of our children. This mess is not the fault of some soulless, shadowy thing called "Government"; it is the fault of living, breathing human beings pulling the levers of government, who have devolved into mindless, greedy warmongers. They are not in it for the good of the world, but for their own corrupt self-interests, their lust for wealth and power at the expense of everyone else. It's not that hard to figure out--nothing new; just the same old crap of every petty dictator down through the ages.

Honestly, at this point, I'm embarrassed to call myself an American in cosmopolitan company. Our constitution is supposed to protect us from idiots like these. First, however, we citizens are responsible for knowing the hard truths behind the truly insane policies of our elected officials before we can know enough to vote for change. That means to quit excusing the status quo, to quit believing in the lies and half-truths of the rightwing propaganda machine, which is obviously a tool of the ultra rich ruling Big Oil and Corporate America. Throw the bums out! We can still do that in America, you know...IF enough people turn off corporate-media TV and Neo-con talk radio and get serious about the real news.

Beyond preaching to the choir, a good starting point for your friendly neighborhood Ditto Head and all of your complacent, non-voting democratic buddies is The Power of Nightmares, which can be downloaded free at www.archive.org. Another one is Why We Fight, which is out in DVD.

The reason the propaganda works today

We all come to sites like this and feel that we are preaching to the choir. There is a good reason for this; only those of us that have some level of interest and literacy are moved to make note and comment on the abhorent actions of our current rulers. The bulk of the American population has been steadily dumbed down since I was in school (60's) to the point where today's kids in general have no interest in anything not promoted by the latest TV or musical fad. The few that do want to know what is going on are quickly discouraged when they find that it requires them to read and study stuff like history. They have been taught to respond only to blurbs and short "excerpts" of real news and data that are bracketed by commercials for the latest trend, fad or fancy car.

The only way out of this mess is for the parents (most of which are already caught in the same trap) to shut of the TV and convince our youth of the importance of being truly educated. READ A BOOK is the message we should be pounding into their heads, not "buy the latest shiny toy you see on TV".

The real danger to our nation and to the future of ALL of the worlds people is not the obvious one. While war and terrorists present a real physical danger to individuals and property, it is the the ongoing propaganda war waged by the multi-national corporations to convince our youth that a life spent in debt to them is the only hope for happiness.

I don't know what the answer to this problem will be; I can see it clearly but all efforts to wake up the young folks I know have been frustrating and mostly lacking in results. But the problem seems obvious enough to anyone who has studied history.

In Love,
Jim

And like the Nazi fascists,

And like the Nazi fascists, they consolidated their dictatorial power on the basis of a big lie. For the Nazis it was the Reichstag fire, for the Bushies it was 9/11, a false-flag war provocation that has been used as the excuse for every diabolical deed they've done since.

9/11/2001 was a self-inflicted wound, a scam, a treasonous crime of epic proportions that is this administrations "REALLY BIG LIE".

More people are sure beginning to believe it too

I live in S.E. Georgia, and everyone I know believs that the Bushites were criminally negligent at the very least and, at worse, complcit. The words, "inside job" have been used by a few. If I were Karl Rove, I am not sure I would be encouraging a lot of loose talk about 9/11. People have started to cringe. Speaking of 9/11 truh, whatever happened to the antrax missive mailer. What happened to the investigation? Did it die out right after the FBI realized that it was probably an inside job? Of more importance, why did folks in the White House start taking Cipro on the evning of 9/11? (See Judicial Watch lawsuits, hardly a liberal group.) Cycles must finally end where they began.

Rumsfeld and Nazi appeasers

Rummy must not be a student of history, or he would know that Prescott Bush, W's grandfather, had one bank and three companies he either owned or managed, seized by the federal government under the Trading with the Enemy Act. This occurred between Oct. 23, 1942 and Nov. 8, 1942. Seems Prescott was providing funding and raw materials, especially coal, to Hitler's Third Reich. Rummy can look in the mirror and at the Bush family is he wants to see what appeasers look like.

Old rhetoric and Machiavellian tactic

Attack that which you fear you might be accused of, so it seems you are defending against it, not doing in.

Any political animal has been using this tactic for generations, but what we are starting to see now is the Machiavellian Model not faring to well as we enter into the Dawn of the Information Age.

This only worked when there was information control, and dissent and proof of others by logic and/or facts was suppressed. The internet and all its trappings has granted information control to the people, which is running not only this Administration's game plan, but any politician who uses this now antiquated model of attack what you might be accused of, into the ground.

Fightin' wars is hard work, in the Information Age.

That is exactly why the Rethugs are trying to eff up the Net.

More diversion

Of course these men are cretins. Dangerous cretins. None of this miserable group- Bush and his pals- have any vested interest in OUR Nation. Whatever they do has NO impact on them. And, whatever they say is aimed at their perception that we are stupid. Well, they were elected. Let's not do it again this next time! This time we need a president that likes living in the USA, that dies a little every time a solider dies, speaks English, wants borders and for God's sake- wants the USA to remain an independent Nation! Let's all pray that the ills Bush is bringing into our Nation is first visited upon him and his daddy.

Who's The Fascist

I want someone who advocated the abuse and torture of prisoners to talk to me about fascism. I want an administration that is classifying documents at the highest rate in our history, in a supposedly open government, to speak to me about totalitarianism. I want to be lectured by a government that solves all problems through military force about the dangers of power run amok. I want a government that spies on 20 million of its own citizens to define the fight against despotism. I want a man who has spent his time in public office, in the name of my country, supplying brutal dictators with chemical and biological weapons and contra soldiers to define, for me, the global struggle against fascists. I think the first person to speak out against fascism should be a government that is stripping its own people of “certain unalienable rights” that it hypocritically tries to spread around the world as a guise for its imperialist ambitions. I want a government that has more citizens imprisoned than any other nation in the world to speak of fascism. In a country where peaceful protestors are wrangled into fenced off areas to redress their grievances against their government. It is in this country that political dissenters are put on no-fly lists and harassed by executive law enforcement agencies. It is in America where political protestors have been shot, maced, and gassed without provocation by representatives of the executive branch of our government. A government where day after day the executive violates rules and laws they swore to uphold. The same government that imprisoned its own citizens for years after 9-11-01 with no due process should know full well the dangers of fascism. I want an executive that uses religion to justify its political stance against life saving medical procedures to lecture me about the dangers of religious fanaticism. The fight against fascism needs to start at home. These Orwellian “newspeak” speeches given around the US to unite people in a struggle against the supposed fascists on the outside, while we forget the tactics we use to fight this “enemy” are the creation of the fascists on the inside. These people we fight are not fascists; they are missing one important ingredient…the corporations. Fascism by definition is the blending of corporate interest with public government. I can’t think of anyplace on the planet where it is more the case, than it is in the US. In a country where you are hard pressed to find legislation that is not bought and paid for by corporate interests. Or try to find the individual senator or congressperson that isn’t bought either; it will be a hard find. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. If we are going to fight an all out war on fascism we should start at home. Only then will we have the moral authority to demand and end to totalitarianism around the world.

Goebbels 2.0

High School debaters are generally advised to avoid the Nazi analogy as it's considered a sign of blatant desperation and, like the use of swear words, indicative of a limited vocabulary.
But if they are going to resort to playing the Nazi card, we Democrats have no choice.
It is just like living in Berlin in the 20's, as we watch it actually happen before our eyes.
Let there be no mistake, they are the true Nazi's.
If this were just a slightly amusing abstract exercise, allowing these Skull and Bones monsters to proceed on however it is they see fit might be just another "too fantastic to believe" story you read in some second rate science fiction knock off. But these Dr. Strangelove characters are operating for real, and during the time and place of my one short life.

Today we look back at the two thirds of the people of Berlin who voted against Hitler and ask why they didn't do something. Now as it happens to us we can answer that by seeing how all our clever web pages and sincere concern and our mocking scorn is just so much DaDa absurdest art. We are still thinking we can rely on elections and a political system as if they were still playing the same kind of game and according to the same rules as we Democrats are. We are like some scrawny young boy in tennis whites with a wooden racket while on the other side of the court Reich Propaganda Minister Karl Rove and von Rummyel and Darth Cheney are dressed in studded biker leathers armed with gatling barrelled machine guns, poison gas, and an array of leathal hightech devices. To say Kerry brought a knife to a gun fight doesn't begin to describe the difference between the artsy fartsy parlor game we are playing in the cabarets of Berlin compared to what Rove's Brown Shits on Hate Radio are doing out on the streets. While we sit over coffee and cigarettes and remark at how silly Rumsfield's cut and paste logic sounds they are pulling shopowners out and pummelling them into pulp and throwing fire bombs in their windows.
These guys make the Nazis look like a bunch of amature wannabes. While funded by the same people, the Bush syndicate are an updated technologically advanced monstrous mutations of the quaint, folksy hate mongers from the black and white era. Rove is Goebbels 2.0. Rove and his Melman minions carpet bomb the Christianist conservatives via Limbaugh and Hannity with such a numbingly unrelenting barrage of psychologically sophisticated concoction of lies and graphic hate that Goebbels becomes an outdated relic. The enemy, "Liberalism" is the same, and many of the code words to titillate and ignite racial aggression are the same, only the racial targets are more carefully obscured.
The Nazi horror was but a mere fifty years ago. The last of those living with direct memory have only just recently passed away. Could anyone have imagined that it would have taken such a short period of time for the United States to turn into the next Nazi Germany?
Today we are being taught to hate the Islamo-facist. How did Karl Rove and the poor befuddled military industrial complex ever find themselves on such a doubly triply convoluted self projection? For our daily hate, today's enemy has morphed out of conflicting images that we are one day taught to love and accept and the next day fear and despise. No wonder thinking becomes almost painful. Thinking offers no reward or satisfaction whereas dull acquiescence at least allows the show to fade into the background. Surrendering reason becomes the logically reasonable, most healthy to the otherwise tormented mind and body, a coping mechanism, a justifiable way of dealing with a battery of ridiculous contradictions we are asked to accept and enthusiastically endorse.
Bush's forces will prevail once again in November. They will manage to stage another election robbery. In such a climate of spin and balanced presentation of indefensible behavior, deftly crafting an election outcome that again seems theoretically feasible will be allowed to pass and the Republicans will be allowed to continue their run till the bitter end.
In a way it's just as well that republicans are allowed to stay in control. It's their mess, the economy, and the state of their empire building fiasco. Why let Bush be allowed to walk away once more and get away with not having to clean up the mess that he made? Let the republican stew in the juices of the unbalanced unstable festering ruin their shortsighted selfish poisonous policies and the corrosive damage they have caused while it was their turn to drive. Let them keep hold of the reigns of power until they create the fabulous cataclysm it seems they so much want to see come to pass. Let the republicans have it, they deserve it. Let's see just how long Rove and the evil lord Cheney can keep this great lie running.

Re: Goebbels 2.0

"All that is nessessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing." Edmund Burke

Difference between Cheney and the Waffen SS

The Germans were excellent marksmen.

They shout "Fascism" because people it's becoming obvious

As I see it, they are starting to sound the alarms on the word "Fascism" because the heat is turning up and the people more and more have been using the term to describe this administration. So they get a microphone and shout the word themselves and point to someone else. This is their habit that they have repeated ad nauseum for a long time now. When things get hot, they loudly accuse others of the same thing that they themselves are doing. So whenever bush and his cronies point their fingers and yell Facist, Racist, Murdurer, etc. you name it --- It is because the title belongs to THEM, and they are trying to deflect it from people's attention. Unfortunately, it still works with stupid people.

NPR: Posted March 10, 2006 12:00 AM NPR's Nina Totenberg aired an amazing story this morning about a talk that just-resigned Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor gave at Georgetown University. The first woman to serve on the High Court wouldn't allow her actual words to be broadcast, and that's a shame, because -- based on Totenberg's report -- every American needs to hear what she said. The Reagan appointee who became a moderate and an American icon -- Bush v. Gore notwithstanding -- all but named names in thinly veiled attacks on former House majority leader Tom DeLay and Texas Sen. John Cornyn, and ended with a stunning warning. O'Connor told her Georgetown audience that judges can make presidents, Congress and governors "really really mad," and that if judges don't make people angry, they aren't doing their job. But she said judicial effectiveness is "premised on the notion that we won't be subject to retaliation for our judicial acts." While hailing the American system of rights and privileges, she noted that these don't protect the judiciary, that "people do": Listen here. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5255712

Plausible Scenario

How's this for a plausible scenario: Adolph W Busch has his friend Olmert use one of Israel's Trident submarines to torpedo a US warship -- or better yet -- an oil tanker. They then round up some poor Iranian fisherman and indict him as being part of an All-CIA-duh plot to terrorize the Straits of Hormuz a la the USS Cole. After all, All-CIA-duh has perpetrated this kind of terror act before, so we are more likely to believe it again. Of course, CNNBCBS/Fox News will never translate the designated patsy's Farsi pleading of innocence before he is luft-wafted away to Guantanamo Bay. "Something must be done to protect our access to Middle East Oil", and "Our economy depends on access and control of the Straits" and we have the Neo-Convict's war with Iran. I know it's a little off topic, but it is a classic play out of the Nazi playbook.

Except Iran will kick our Butts

The CIA may be filled with yuppie wannabes, not one who can speak a foreign language, but Iran has managed to steal every military secret of ours we ever had. If Cheney orders the bombing they might just launch a half million dollar exocet into one of our 50 billion dollar aircraft carriers. Think of the Persian Gulf as like shooting rubber ducks in a bath tub. And they will take out more of our fancy f14 thirty year old jets than we might suspect. (Of course, Lockeed and Rockwell in Ft.Worth would love to see finally that happen)

Write the Whitehouse

Let's all write the White House (www.whitehouse.gov) and ask to hear more about the Nazi threat spoken of this week by President Bush and Mr. Rumsfeld. Ask them if the Nazis weren't a corporate oligarchy with a puppet leader.

Adolph wasn't a puppet and neither is Junior;

not anymore than anyone else is a corporate puppet, in America, that is. We are all corporate puppets. If we weren't we would have organized a "consummer strike" a long time ago. Mussolini, who invented the fascist party, said that fascism is the same as corporatism. No difference. The government and the corporate world in lock-step, building data bases on every citizen, spying on workers and their familes for sign of disloyalty (not to mention the political opposition). Add religious insanity to the mix and we have the real axis of evil. God help us

"Oh, that is all well and

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." Goering Anybody happen to see the fox news headers calling directly for military strikes on Iran? The biggest question is How did the situation get so bad? How did the bush administration get away with screwing the entire country six ways to sunday? How could another Hitler have been installed into our leadership and our nation not have any protection in place to prevent or remedy the situation? Now the criminals are in position and there is no method in our law to remove a fascist dictator. lufinn

The Nazi thing

The only liberals I know of who are appeasing the Nazis are Joe Liebermann and Zell Miller. I've been painfully aware of the similarities of the Bush admin. to the Hitler admin. since before Bush took office in 2000 (I'm a history buff). I always thought that the reason the neocons tend to flip out when you compare them to Nazis is because it's too true and it makes them extremely uncomfortable. So now that they've brought the subject up themselves, it would be great if progressives everywhere took up the Nazi theme to bring about an honest look at what, exactly, constitutes the real "Nazi" threat these days. I see Hitler's administration as, basically, a corporate oligarchy with a puppet dictator who held many strange metaphysical beliefs. Let's see, who does that remind us of? This article is so clear, it would be a good place to start to raise public awareness of the corporate oligarchy/puppet leader threat. Could we have a letter-writing campaign to newspapers, or something, to get this article widely circulated?

There was a time...

...when I would have flipped out about someone associating Lieberman with Nazis or their appeasers. But, the times they are a changin'! I have changed my views about a number of issues since the autumn of 2002. One of them is blind knee-jerk support for Israel as a foreign policy. It is past time that we re-examine that policy.

Similarities

While it does seem excessive to always drop the Nazi bomb on whomever, similarities do exist. For one, to compare George Bush to Hitler is inaccurate: Hitler was elected. However, the tactics used in addition to the sentiments of Goering, included outright lying about how the people of Czechoslovakia and Poland were abusing German citizens in Hitler's runup to war. In Poland's case, Hitler said the Poles were castrating German citizens. Read the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and you will see an incredible amount of "familiar" situations to present day events. First Iraq was the problem (Czechoslovakia) and now Iran (Poland). Watch the History Channel's recent spat of documentaries of battles and such that occurred during this war and the infamous Goebbel's newsreels come into mind. So they got a lot of gall to be using the Nazi crap with non sequitor rhetoric.

Propaganda Technique

They are also using(again) a classic Goebbels propaganda technique: accuse the opposition of the very thing you know you are guilty. It keeps the enemy offguard and makes flaccid their attacks on you. The Bushies do it all the time and the Democratic Leadership is too stupid to have caught on. C'mon Dean, Pelosi et al. Attack FIRST Before they attack you. Jeff Valencia

Bush as Goering

Yesterday, W made the statement that it is time for Iran to make a choice. We heard a similar statment about four years ago. The nice thing about the runup to war with Iran is that W can use the same speeches by changing some "q's" to "n's". W foreign policy has been a disaster. I don't see how bankrupting the country will make it secure from terrorists. With all the money wasted in Iraq we could have run quite a number of covert, precise operations to get rid of a lot of terrorists leaders, or bought a bunch of potential informants, or run a lot of psy-ops counter-terrorism programs. We could have been so much more efficient and effective.

Bush also said that Iran was a grave threat.

Flashback, flashback, flashback! I'm just waiting for Kindasleazy's mushroom clouds. Unfortunately, the psyops are all directed at us and it seems I am stuck with flashbacks for life. This incarnation has been a bitch, from Vietnam on.

Nice try, but it won't work...

You know, when I first heard the GOP using their latest catchphrase "fascist/fascism", my first thought was, "Who you calling a fascist, fascist??" Seems to me that they are trying to project the fascist label on to others to take it off of them.

The projection administration

You can count on it. Everything this administration says about any perceive enemy, they have either done, are doing or are about to do. Projection is a classic defence mechanism in the authoritarian personality and this administration has more authoritarians than any we have ever seen. Nixon came close, but no exploding cigar for him.

Rumsfeld's name calling

dmc I think it's definitely time for Rumsfeld to go. He obviously has lost it when he personally insults us and calls 61% of Americans who are against this stupid war in Iraq Nazis, appeasers or just plain confused. Neither he or Bush seem to remember that they are really nothing more than civil servants. They work for us and should answer to us. They seem to think they know what is good for everyone, but all anyone has to do is to look at what they have done in the past five years to this country and around the world, in our name, to see they are monumental failures. Our only hope is to take back Congrss in the fall. I only hope that the rest of my fellow Americans don't fall for their theatrics, lies and fear, and let them have free reign for the next two years. God help us all if we don't wake up in time.

Speaking of appeasers

Reagan/Bush appeased both Saddam and the Iranian Mullahs backs in the 80s, giving nerve gas to Saddam and trading arms for hostages which led to Iran/Contra. Who can forget the October surprise before the election of Reagan? (See Consortiumn News by Robert Parry). Bush/Cheney have continued in the grand tradition of appeasement. Osama is still on the loose and Bush granted his demands that American forces be withdrawn from Saudi Arabia, just after "mission accomplished." I don't want to hear another freakin' word about appeasement from any of "morally and intelectually confused" in this god-awful administration, nor from their enablers in Congress!

Bush Works for Bin Laden

What are you talking about? Bush takes his orders from the Bin Laden family.

Sure your right

He probably still owes Salim bin Laden for the last loan.

I agree

I think that if Bush captured Osama, he would let him go and refuse to inform the American people that we had him. He is much more useful free, conjuring up fear. I wonder..... In late October, will we have a statement from Osama urging Americans to vote for Democrats, like the one he made favoring Kerry? Osama and Bush both know that would be best for both of them. tseving -Surviving Bush one day at a time http://tomcatsbox.spaces.live.com

That brings up an

That brings up an interesting question: did we really need to take down the Taliban to get Osama? Nobody seems to question that act. It was very popular with liberals. But if we surrounded Al Qaeda and destroyed them would the Taliban have intervened militarily? Secondly, if they had would it have made our job easier to destroy them? The Libertarian candidate in 2004 stated such an approach to the retaliation for 911 - and of course, with low poll numbers was completely ignored. Is our goal to strike down terrorists or to take control over that region? We have already demonstrated that we are the cats' pajamas when it comes to destroying any other country's military capabilities. Why do we need so much overkill? We are not very well equipped and trained as a foreign occupational force [as if anyone is]. We're doing poorly in both countries and the neocons are looking to add Iran to the list. No, it wasn't be best strategy

But I doubt that the majority of Americans, at that stunned, angry moment in our history, would have stood for anything less. Actually, the bombing of Afghanistan was a real bummer for Osama. Seems everyone turned againt him, except for his buddie, the Egyptian lunatic, Zawahiri. Even his own son, Omar, left him and returned to Saudi Arabia. Osama was probably finsihed, until Bush invaded Iraq, redeeming Osama in the eyes of Muslims who had not agreed with him before. The Afghans were delighted to be rid of the Taliban. Who wouldn't have been? They would have probably liked it a lot if we had stayed and helped them turn Afghanistan into a functioning nation, if we could have only kept ourseves from torturing people. But I remember thinking at the time, when Rummsfeld kept saying that looking for the biggest Arab on the planet was like looking for a needle in a haystack, "Is it really the best idea, then, to blow the haystack to smitherines?" Someone, or everyone, in the administration had no desire to cature or kill bin laden. He would be hard to replace as the election year bogeyman.
