Brent Budowsky -- Republican Leaders Must Reconvene Congress, Give Sworn Testimony, Or Resign Over Page Scandal

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Brent Budowsky

The full House Page Board should have been immediately and fully notified that a senior Republican was involved in a scandal that might endanger the safety of Congressional pages. The Page Board should then have immediately and fully opened an investigation to protect the safety of all pages and sent to the Justice Department and FBI any evidence of criminal conduct.

They did not, and whoever was responsible must go. Congress must be reconvened, sworn testimony must be taken from the entire Republican leadership, that testimony must be publicly released, and major new resignations will be necessary.

This cannot wait.

This cannot be treated as yet another abuse of the one party Republican Congress.

This cannot be covered up any longer.

We are talking about moms and dads who send their children in trust to Congress and learn of the sickest abuse against one of them, and learn that Republicans leaders did nothing for 11 months and may have known about this years before.

They endangered other children. They continue to endanger other children until we get to the bottom of this.

The great sin here -- and great sin is not too strong a phrase -- is that this should have been treated with grave seriousness from the first day. The entire leadership should have been immediately alerted. Democratic leadership should have been immediately alerted.

Above all, the entire House Page Group that specifically protects pages, should have opened an immediate and full investigation from day one.

For Congressional Republican leaders to cover up this scandal and this abuse from the full House Page Group and treat this as a backroom deal involving the Chairman of the Republican Campaign Committee, while keeping this secret from the full House Page Board, it is an unpardonable breach of duty, honor and trust.

It was unconscionable and grounds for firing that Democratic Congressman Dale Kildee and the entire group with the sole purpose of protecting pages was not immediately and fully notified, did not immediately and fully investigate, and did not immediately and fully notify law enforcement.

The goal here is to protect pages, not to protect Republicans. Yet this was treated as just one more day in the life of one party Republican Washington, with backroom corruption, with insider deals, with cult like partisan secrecy and now the children are the victim and moms and dads all over America should be outraged.

If ever there were proof positive of the need for checks and balances in our democracy, it is this case. If ever there were proof positive of how hyper-partisan one party abuse in Congress is gravely dangerous for the nation, it is this. If ever there were proof positive that the rule of law must come first, and that there are dark forces in our Capitol who have contempt for the rule of law, it is this.

In the name of defending our children these Congressional Leaders should put their hand on the bible now, this week, and tell the nation the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. They should release their testimony in public with no more time wasted by this pathetic scampering to coordinate their cover stories, while the dangers to the children continue.

Republican leaders responsible should have the good grace to resign.

The American people in November should have the good sense to fire them.

And anyone who violated the law and safety of our children should spend time behind bars, not backrooms.

Another day through the Bushville looking glass...

So we find now that reptards would shirk at nothing, including hiding ongoing sexual predation of children, to preserve their electoral chances . Clearly these are the people best equipped to set the moral standards of our nation. Their utter failure to protect the country of course qualifies them as best able to secure it as well. Integrity. Honesty. Sobriety. A sick old fart enquiring as to your childs masturbation habits...

There is nothing new under the sun...

Ladies and (nonperv) Gents!

Note the below the exchange with an "the adults are now in charge" tool who has had to eat his words on this very page! Ha.

Now. Buzzflash, please. Don't hold up Scarborough as an example of thugs eating their own, as if that's in any way significant. I spoke to Floridians at length when he lied about the murder of his aide, Lori Klausutis. He has a long and well understood history of sexual forays himself. Don't hold the hypocrite up as any kind of example except the typical thug hypocrite that he is.

RE-CONVENE......UNDER OATH.....RESIGN

Get real, Brent. You are talking about people who have decided that the law and the laws of decency do not apply to them.....and are getting by with it......so why worry about a few NAUGHTY E-MAILS.

Don't worry about it!

You guys paid no attention to Bill Clinton when he did not have sexual relations in the white house. it is Foley's private matter. :)

Don't worry about it?

Clinton had an affair with a WOMAN-an adult female. That's his and Hillary's business alone. It's quite different to attempt to have sex with a minor(and who's to say he hasn't succeeded?), or don't you think there's any difference?

There is a huge difference

There is a huge difference what clinton did was legal just not moral, trying to have sex with a minor is what dateline to catch a predator is for. Big difference here. I think if prostitution were legal it would make us better off prohibition didn't work and just before that booze were legal so was poker and brothels watch any old west movie and thats all you see. In the UK london escorts are all over the place. Maybe thats what we need here.

More damage

Bill Clinton may have done it with an adult but he failed to do his job as prez and let OBL get away because he was busy with cigars.

You forgot to bring up Studds!

Fox News is leading with Gary Studds, the Dem who had sex with underage male pages, way back when.

You'll not get your full paycheck Zorro, if you only trot out HALF of the thug distraction tactics!

Now, run along...I'm the Z here. Or, if you prefer to stay, you can explain what we should tell the children? That the GOPerverts are in charge now? And when they're of age of consent, not to worry...they'll no longer be targets of old white pervs and will be sent overseas to be cannon fodder instead because our First Lady George Bush was too busy promoting My Pet Goat during his "Reeding iz Gud" tour to stop Osama Bin Forgotten?

Why is it political?

Why is a scandal as such a political issue. It's just sex! I agree that it shouldn't be with a minor. Democrats have sex scandals too! Who cares...it has nothing to with national security.

Backtracking?

And contradicting yourself?

Not surprised. It's not as if you can DEFEND or BRAG about your FIRST LADY George Bush's month long vaca immediately followed by his First Lady Reading Program of squatting on elementary school chairs while NYC burned.

hahaha.

buh-bye!! OBL thanks you.

Ass backwards?

Just think about it: Foley as a head of child protection agency. Bolton an ambassador to the UN. Rumsfeld a secretary of defense. Rice a chief security advisor. Gonzales an attorney general.

Not to mention Bush a president...

How do you spell "fox in charge of a chickenhouse security"?

Known for years and well-plotted out

Wow. Now it seems that not only were Foley's predatory habits known for years (pages were warned as much as five years ago to steer clear of him) but it also is revealed that his method was super plotted out, contrary to his latest attempt to blame it all on alcohol.

Loraditch said his friends all thought the messages were disturbing, but they did not report them...He added all his friends received the questionable messages only after they had graduated and left the program, when, theoretically, that would not raise the same in-house sexual harassment issues as if they had been sent when the former pages still worked for Congress.

"This all happened after we were outside the protective umbrella of all our supervisors, not when we were there," Loraditch said. "To me, that indicates some sort of thought process going on in Foley's mind."

I think the timing is good to bring Larry Flynt back in.

Larry Flynt has the goods on several rethuglicans, as he made clear when they were attacking Clinton.

This would be the perfect time for him to shake up the hypocrites once more. Maybe Buzzflash could send out a feeler for a possible interview? Flynt maintains a policitcal website to this day.

Oh, and Budowsky, I totally concur...but I think the public is suffering from horror burnout...each scandal is as mindboggling as the last. Reminds me of the first half of 2001. The Catholic Church did eventually pay, but victims were actively involved in standing up for their rights, and thus far, the parents of the pages want the matter dropped. The same thing happened with the Lori Klausutis case I mentioned below...her family did not want the manner of her death pursued, so normal public outrage was not enough to fuel coverage, especially in today's media climate.

Which is why I think taunting, as in bringing back Larry Flynt, would be a better route than outrage. We may be parents ourselves, but without the parents involved for us to back up, we'll get no traction there.

where's John Hinkley NOW that we really need him?

where's John Hinkley NOW that we REALLY need him? George the Chimp and company of traitors have shit on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, ignored and broke the laws of the United States (of Israel),helped foreign nationals to commit treason and murder, and no one in the halls of congress seem to give a flying fuck. This is when the RICO ACT should now be applied against the entire Republican Party in office!!Will some kind attorney out there in cyberland take note (on the language in the RICO ACT)and file a complaint with a hellfire assistant attorney general in some federal district and serve criminal complaint summons on the entire one-party congress and also seek a TRO against the treasonous bastards from hiding evidence that will send their asses to death row?Let John Hinkley be the executioner.

Just another slime-ball republican

The real story here is that the GOP leadership knew about Foley and not only didn't do anything, but kept him in a position of leadership in the exploited children caucus. Hey, anything to keep a seat, right? Dennis Hastert should have his fat ass hung in the public square.

Page Scandal

The criminal neglect of the House leadership is remarkably similar to the neglect of Catholic church leadership: allowing sexually abusive behavior to be hidden and thus tacitly condoning it.

Family Values

If another "family values," Republican slithers out of the sewer, God is going to turn America into a giant pillar of salt.

mike kohr

Protecting Republicans and attacking Dems is all they know

Untill the most awful and explicit IM's came out the Repugs were in full defence mode, twisting themselves into knots to try to say that the almost explicit emails were innocent or out of context.

One cannot help but remember the twisting of much more innocent facts in the other direction for Gary Condit, or of hiding out in the weeds to assure themselves that Gary Hart spent the entire night in a house with several people, one of whom was a pretty woman. And on that increadably flimsy evidence made sure America was robbed of what might have been the best of presidents.

As it is, had Tom Foley been a Democrat, not only would it have been front page news at the first hint, but the first news stories would be of his perp walk, before defence and before resignation. At this moment I have not heard that Mr Foley has so much as had a conversation with police.

IOKIYAR

Indeed. If you're a Rethuglican, the police are your personal armed force. Is Rush in jail? Jeb's daughter? Was Cheney taken into custody for shooting someone and given an alcohol test? Oh, no...but if you protested the Republican Party in NYC, or were even a bystander, you could be rounded up and unceremoniously detained in toxic abandonned bus terminals turned into makeshift mass jail cells. Nice, eh?

And one can't bring up Gary Condit without remembering the brutal murder of rethug Joe Scarborough's aide, Lori Klausutis, which was NEVER treated as suspicious by the Florida police, or the national media. In fact, after Joe Scarborough himself contacted the media and lied that Lori had "considerable health problems" in order to deflect the obvious questions as to how she came to die of multiple head wounds (I personally sourced three media outlets Joe contacted) the media rewarded Scarborough when he resigned from Congress and gave him his own hot-air tv show.
