Brent Budowsky -- National Intelligence Estimate: Because Of Iraq, Bush Is Losing The War On Terror

A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Brent Budowsky

There should be a national outcry and national demand that the Senate Intelligence Committee immediately release the full text of its latest report, now being covered up until after the election, about whether and when false statements were made by Administration officials regarding pre-war Iraq intelligence.

Every Republican Senator now running for reelection should be challenged in their hometown newspapers and in public meetings, and should be opposed in November if they support the continued cover-up in light of this latest bombshell from the National Intelligence Estimate.

Every Republican running for reelection in the House should be defeated unless they publicly demand that the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth be told to the American people NOW, by both Intelligence Committees.

The enormous implication of the National Intelligence Estimate recently leaked boils down to this: because of the extreme and deadly consequences of the Iraq War, President Bush is losing the war against terror.

It is the consensus opinion of our intelligence services that because of the Iraq war, the danger from terrorism has risen during the Bush years and the world and our communities are less safe.

It is the consensus opinion of our intelligence services that because of the Iraq War, the number of terrorists has increased during the Bush years.

It is the consensus opinion of our intelligence services that because of the Iraq War, the increasing number of terrorists during the Bush years will be harder than ever to catch, because they are springing up spontaneously, in smaller groups in more locations. resulting in large measure from world-wide outrage and popular discontent toward the failed policies.

And: before Congress votes on torture again, there should be full public release and public hearings about the whether our intelligence community believes that torture practices, Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo increase the number of terrorists and the dangers which, I propose, in fact, they do.

It does not matter that the Bush Administration spends hundreds of millions of dollars on public relations and psy-war, when every day major stories on world-wide television anger large majorities of world opinion, and overwhelming majorities of young men and women throughout the Middle East, who were not born as terrorists and have no natural reason to support the terrorist cause.

It does no service to our security or the truth that the President gives two weeks of major speeches claiming, falsely, that his Iraq war makes us more safe, when he knew, that his own intelligence assessment says the literal exact opposite; that his policy in Iraq creates more terrorists and more dangers.

What is happening now, ladies and gentlemen, is that on a wide range of issues tied to the grave mistakes of this war there is enormous, widespread disagreement from our military commanders about the direction and course of this policy, and from our intelligence leaders and personnel, who flat-out believe that this war is hurting our security, our country, and our war against terrorism.

In our America, it is the truth that sets us free.

It is high time, and long overdue, that our government tell the truth to our people, and the truth is, that this policy has made our country less safe, less secure, less strong, less respected in the world, and that the greatest winners in this war are the terrorist recruiters and the politicians in Washington who try to exploit a war, for political gain, that hurts our troops, and as suggested by our intelligence services, helps our enemy.

Because of Iraq ...

Here we have it in full. Need there be any further confusion or mystery? The stability of our entire nation is but another of the many massive, lifelong frat party failures run to the ground through incredible ineptitude and duplicitous allegiances. The truth is we have no out, now.
The truth has always been available. We choose what we want to know for reasons of personal comfort. Its even worthless to entertain a doomsday scenario because we have no choice but to live with what exists. There are just too many people burdened with the need to justify bad decisions for change to be remotely possible. Its going to be interesting to listen to the collective gasps of shock when this intel reaches the mainstream. Especially among the families of our fallen troops. Not that anything will come of it coming after the election. They've got an iron grip and we the people are caught as powerless pawns. C'est la vie.

GOP MUST be removed

The Republicans don't get a pass. They must all be removed because they have been fully in control for 8-years. This said, the Democrats would likely do much of the same. Who among us think the Democrats will close our borders and rid our nation of illegal aliens? Who among us think the Democrats will make our nation safe from terrorists? Who among us believe the Democrats will deal ruthlessly with terrorists? Who among us will believe Democrats will stop the SPP program to eliminate a free USA to form a north American union of 3 nations?

GOP MUST be removed

Its not about parties, its about morals. In this battle between good and evil, evil has the upper hand. You can see it up high and you can see it on the ground. Blame is everywhere, but the Democrats bear a large amount for sideways and backhanded encouragement through willful ignorance of basic morality. Morality is what they were supposed to represent, once upon a time. Morality is what WE were supposed to represent, too, but that was just another one of many floating ideals that didn't exactly pan out when it came down to the raw power of possession.

Count me as one among many

I can be counted as 1 among Americans who thinks this country will be in better shape with the Democrats in power. Even if it only means there are equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans providing parity in our government, which right now has been solely run by the Republican party. Republicans have made a fine mess of things.

according to bush interview

(CNN Wolf Blitzer) Iraq is just going to be comma... I guess the whole WOT may warrant at least a semi-colon?

There is no war on terrorism....

In the world oponion America is comitts crimes against humanity like torture and genocide. These articles make me sick!

War on terror? United Skunks is the terrorist nation number one.

Freedom Isn't Free

Torture and genocide is why Mexicans and Cubans flee to America. They can't seem to get enough of it. The more we beat and stone them they keep coming and yes, maybe we are United Skunks but atleast we're united. The middle east never could get along even before the west got involved.
It is total chaos over there and that's when the U.S. does its best work. Look at the 60's. It sucked but many good things came out of the whole fiasco in the end. And contrary to popular belief we didn't lose in Vietnam. Look it up. But it looks like the public may get its way again and we will be left with the Divided Skunks in the middle east or truce as they call it over there. Another term for we'll settle it later once the U.S. leaves.

Wrong!!

Abraham, you might want to spend more time learning history.

Our foreign policy has nothing to do with why Mexicans and Cubans come to the US. They come because they believe the US is a better place to live than the places from which they came. To them, our foreign policy is irrelevant. They want to have enough to eat.

The middle east had a history of getting along no worse than the rest of the world under the Ottoman Empire, prior to World War I. When the allied victors broke that country up at the conclusion of the war, they created countries without regard for the ethnicity of the people living there. Iraq is a prime example of that error. They made the same error when they created Yugoslavia with the same disastrous results. The difference is that in Yugoslavia, the international community worked together to improve the situation, while in Iraq, the Bush regime barged in, without real international support and made the situation worse.

We are not the Unites Skunks. The US has a history as a protector of human rights worldwide and was recognized as such until the criminal practices of Bush regime tarnished that image and made our nation an international pariah. What Brent Budowsky and other true progressives are saying is that we need to return to the policies that made us great. We are not denigrating the US. Standing up against Bush is the most patriotic thing an American can do!

B.S. bullcrap. There is

B.S. bullcrap. There is plenty of work and food in Mexico. As far as not knowing about history your right. I know nothing of a disparate Persian Empire well before the likes of Cyrus and Darius and their failures. Oh wait, i'm a history major, hehe a little rusty!) Ok, back on topic...do you think everybody we fire bombed in Japan (which killed more people than the nukes) hated us. Probably not. Do you think the French civilians we killed to stop the German rail system were given a heads up? Not likely. Do you think Lousiana was happy when it was turned over to the U.S. (hell no, they couldn't stand democracy). But history is history and we are where we are now which is a U.S. War that they started. For me, the meaning of life now is simple. Crush the enemy, see him driven before me and hear the lamentations of the people who love them. It is the only way. When I get home you can thank me and my Commander for your freedom and your childrens freedom and ....you get the idea.

Really?

Were you asleep in class? Do you actually believe that Iraq attacked us? If you are currently in Iraq ("When I get home.....") I do thank you for your sacrifice, even though the NIE by Bush's 16 intelligence agencies, disclosed yesterday, reveals that your sacrifice is being horribly misspent by the Bush regime. Also, your statement about crushing your enemies is an excellent paraphrase of the Governator from "Conan the Barbarian."
