Hillary Clinton: A Crass Act -- Patricia A. Weller

There is a difference between the "negativity" claimed by each side in the Clinton-Obama struggle for the Democratic nomination. While the blogs and reader comments are often vitriolic from both supporters of Hillary Clinton and supporters of Barack Obama, Senator Clinton is the only one of the two candidates to go malicious herself.
When asked whether she believed Senator Obama was a Muslim, Senator Clinton said he wasn't, but felt the need to pause and add, "Not that I know of". Hard to misinterpret that bit of ruthless, Rove-like mischief.
When Senator Obama used ill-chosen words to explain the "bitterness" of voters over the climate they find themselves in after eight years of the Bush Administration, Senator Clinton led the charge in labeling Senator Obama an "elitist." Yet, she initially claimed she "misspoke" when she was caught in a lie about her trip to Bosnia when she was First Lady.
Although I don't recall Senator Obama himself blaming fatigue for his poorly constructed phrasing (although a surrogate may have done so), it didn't bother Senator Clinton at all to finally use the excuse of fatigue for the whopper she told regarding landing in Bosnia under sniper fire. It is quite a stretch to believe that being tired would conjure up false memories. If it happened, you would be unlikely to forget it. If it did not happen, you'd remember that, too. I can say unequivocally, for example, that no matter how tired I am as I write this late at night, I don't "remember" ever being attacked by a wild boar.
Hillary also uses the "do what I say, not what I do" brand of politics. She offered high praise for the Republican candidate when she said repeatedly that both she and John McCain would bring "a lifetime of service" to the office of President of the United States, while Senator Obama would only bring a speech. Yet if Senator Obama says anything that remotely praises John McCain or any Republican, no matter how inadvertent, she in essence says, "I'll take this one, John," and hammers Obama on it for weeks.
Hillary and the media have put Obama in a precarious position. It is a "damned if you do, and damned if you don't" situation. If he responds to the attacks, even if only to defend himself, then he is accused of going negative. If he complains about the distraction from the issues, he is accused of whining and not being able to take it. If he tries to deflect the attacks with humor, then he is accused of mocking Hillary. When Senator Obama decides to ignore it and he begins addressing the differences he has with Republican candidate, John McCain, he is accused of arrogance for assuming that he has his party's nomination locked up. On top of all this, you have Bill Clinton, out of the clear blue sky, unbelievably claiming that Obama has played the race card.
Senator Clinton has been positioning herself for president ever since she and Bill settled their marital problems. She is adamant.
I heard a joke recently that pretty much sums it up. Barack Obama, John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Al Gore all end up in front of St. Peter at the same hour. St. Peter looks down at them from his throne in front of the gates of Heaven and thunders, "What have you done in life to deserve to enter here?"
Barack Obama says, "Well, I helped the poor and disadvantaged on the south side of Chicago and I brought people together across the country."
St. Peter taps the left arm of his throne and says, "You may enter. Sit on my left."
John McCain pipes up, "Well, I fought for and protected my country by serving in the military."
St. Peter taps the right arm of his throne and says, "You may enter. Sit on my right."
Then Al Gore tells him about his work in trying to save the planet from global warming and St. Peter taps the left arm of his throne and says, "You may enter. Sit on my left."
He then looks at Hillary, who seems to be chomping at the bit and he says, "And you?"
Hillary explodes. "GET OUT OF MY DAMN CHAIR!"
