McCain-Palin: Disrespect on Parade

THE FIFTH COLUMNIST by P.M. Carpenter

Last night, career-challenged Fred Thompson returned to his thespian ways and roared to the assembled right-winging junkies that Alaska governor Sarah Palin has the opposition "in a state of panic," because she's almost too darned good to be true.

No kidding. She's too "courageous," said Fred, and too -- brace here for coming guffaw -- "successful," meaning perfectly qualified as POTUS. No, really, Fred actually said that, in what I guess was a tribute to method acting.

That over-the-top endorsement prompted me to wonder if Fred had just read Richard Cohen's take on the increasingly amusing Palin cont

Barbara's Daily BuzzFlash Minute for September 3, 2008

BARBARA'S DAILY BUZZFLASH MINUTE

Back in '99 and 2000, while extolling praises for Joe Lieberman, I met a man who belonged to the same congregation as Lieberman who said to me, "Joe Lieberman is a schmuck, he only cares about himself, don't be fooled by him"! At the time I thought the man wrong, today I know exactly what he meant!

For showing heart, courage, and faith in the First Amendment in the face of arrest, Amy Goodman is the Wings of Justice winner

WINGS OF JUSTICE

Amy Goodman

BuzzFlash chooses to honor a heroine at the GOP convention in Minnesota. No, our choice is not religious right-winger McCain/GOP vice presidential pick Sarah Palin.

Instead we recognize Amy Goodman, journalist and patriot par excellence, who demonstrated heart, courage, and faith in the First Amendment in the face of arrest at the scene of protests in St. Paul on the first day of the GOP convention.

Many missing elements from the GOP last night, including current Republican politicians

I watched an Oscar-winning performance last night. No, not Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight" but Fred Thompson as Fred Thompson in "Rally around the Old Guy."

This wasn't a Thompson we saw during his hiccup of a presidential campaign. As I was watching his speech last night, I figured out why that was. Yes, we all made jokes about his need for naps, but there was something different.

Does Sarah Palin know how many countries she has visited?

from nationalatlas.gov

One benefit of Sarah Palin's nomination is that we are learning more about Alaska. Well, other than Ted Stevens (indicted) and Don Young (investigated) are the state's senior politicians.

But we are also realizing what we don't know.

Steve Doocy, "Fox and Friends"

"But the other thing about her, she does know about international relations because she is right up there in Alaska right next door to Russia."
Cindy McCain on ABC-TV
"...the experience that she comes from is what she's done in government, and remember, Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia."

Let's help those two and anyone else with misguided geographic problems. Juneau is the capital of Alaska, where the governor works. The city is in the southeastern part of the state, situated within the Tongass National Forest. The forest shares its eastern border with the province of British Columbia, Canada.

Sarah Palin jumped full force into U.S. House GOP primary, but her candidate may not win

There has been a lot of talk about Sarah Palin and her influence as Governor of Alaska. But there is one area where she has tried to make an impact that has been virtually ignored by the press.

If you didn't know who Sarah Palin was a week ago, you may not know who Sean Parnell is. I wrote about Parnell in his quest to defeat longtime incumbent Don Young in the Republican Party primary on August 26.

On the same day Ted Stevens got 63 percent of the vote in the primary, despite being under indictment, the Young-Parnell race ended up being too close to call. Currently, Young is up by 151 votes but there are more than 25,000 absentee and questioned ballots to be counted.

What does this have to do with Sarah Palin? Well, Parnell is Alaska's lieutenant governor, and Palin pushed very hard to get Parnell to win the primary. Why? Well, Don Young is 75 and under investigation for his ties to Anchorage-based VECO Corporation, the Feds are looking into possible bribes, illegal gratuities, or unreported gifts.

If Young ends up winning the primary, two things appear clear. The Republicans will likely lose that seat to the Democrats, and Palin will look like she couldn't even deliver on an intra-party squabble. Technorati Tags:

Sarah Palin's judgment is in focus, not Bristol Palin's

How much have you thought about John McCain in the last few days? How much has the average voter thought about John McCain in the last few days?

Not much, I would imagine. After all, "Sarah Palin" has been on everyone's mind, deflecting criticism away from McCain. Anything that deflects attention away from McCain is good for McCain.

The problem (or joyous occasion, depending on your vantage point) is that McCain's judgment showed in picking Sarah Palin as his running mate. So her questionable judgments reflect on his questionable judgment.

This has nothing to do with Bristol Palin and whether she is pregnant. This is about Sarah Palin and only Sarah Palin.

I really don't care if Trig is Bristol's child or Sarah's child or whether Bristol is currently pregnant by a boy who doesn't want kids. And for those on the right-wing who are using Bristol's situation to attack the left should know this has nothing to do with a teenage pregnancy.
