The Right Flexes That Anti-intellectual Muscle Between Its Ears Once Again

THE FIFTH COLUMNIST by P.M. Carpenter

The Clinton-McCain pincer movement executed on Sen. Obama subsequent to his "bitter" comment has been a marvel to watch unfold. Although his original remarks addressed the urgent needs of the American people and how they have historically responded to those needs, "What's really going on here," as Ed Kilgore of the Democratic Strategist has noted, "is that Obama's 'gaffe' has provided an imperfect but adequate match for the most urgent needs of his Democratic and Republican critics."

In short, another opportunity for a full and honest debate about something, anyt

In Front Of Barack, AP Chairman Refers To Threat Posed By 'Obama bin Laden' -- Verse-Case Scenario by Tony Peyser

Obama quickly corrected W. Dean Singleton
Whose tongue for a second was tied.
"If I did that, I am so sorry" was the way that
Mr. Singleton at this huge gaffe replied.

"If?" When Singleton made this remark which
Must've caused sweat to be glistening
It wasn't in private with the senator from Chicago
But with a thousand people listening.

Is the White House worth resigning from the Senate?

We have 3 Senators as the last major contenders for president of the United States. We have only had 2 Senators jump straight from the Senate to the White House.

But there is this call, this concern, this outcry for the candidates to make a significant move that would be risky, yet show they are serious about taking over the White House: resign their Senate seat.

So far, the speculation has gone only to John McCain. But since the two remaining Democratic candidates also work in the Senate, the question should also apply to them. If that person is the nominee, should they resign from the Senate?

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius stood her ground not to allow two new coal plants

Kathleen Sebelius is the Democratic Governor of Kansas. Yes, Kansas has a Democratic Governor, as much as some individuals would like to kiss off the Plains States as being irreversibly Republican.

We first became aware of Sebelius when she vetoed a bill in Kansas to allow individuals to carry concealed weapons. Sebelius noted that she was not against hunting or firearms in general, but "I don't believe allowing people to carry concealed handguns into sporting events, shopping malls, grocery stores, or the workplace would be good public policy. And to me the likelihood of exposing children to loaded handguns in their parents' purses, pockets, and automobiles is simply unacceptable." Her veto was eventually overridden and now there are only two states -- Illinois and Wisconsin -- that do not allow some form of carrying hidden handguns.

Dave Lindorff: Notes from the "Bitter and Frustrated" Heartland

I find it interesting that among the responses to my recent column about Obama's "bitterness and frustration" comments regarding rural Americans, those that came from rural folks -- including from the two towns I mentioned in upstate New York -- backed him up.

I don't know how this will all play out in Pennsylvania's primary next Tuesday. I'm terrible at predicting these things. But I have a suspicion that the people who are in a snit over Obama's comments are either rabid Republicans or are already firmly committed Hillary Clinton fans. Those who support Obama are unlikely to change their views, and may even become more committed to making it to the polls. In the end, it all could be a ratings-driven media dust-up. But meanwhile, it's worth reading what some country folk have to say about it all.

Here's one from observation from a guy in Spencer, NY, where I lived in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and about which I wrote in my piece:

Look Out, McCain: Biden Issues a Challenge on National Security

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS
by Christine Bowman

Senator Joe Biden is talking national security, and though no longer a candidate for the presidency, he just challenged Republican candidate John McCain on behalf of the Democrats on what some presume is McCain's main strength with voters.

"I think we as Democrats should not shy away from a direct confrontation with the Republicans on national security. The Democratic Party and the Democratic candidates are stronger on National security than George Bush or John McCain. ...

Who's Running? (But Not for President)

BE ELECTED
by Christine Bowman

Some political addicts are interested in a range of elections -- even as we await another presidential debate tonight -- Obama and Clinton facing off in Pennsylvania. Can we start paying attention to the other races in the mean time?

BuzzFlash is not affiliated with any candidates or PACs, but two have sent us their endorsements, so we will share them as a starting point. We invite readers to tell us about other candidates they deem worthy, or to critique those named below:
