Should Bob Novak be held without habeas corpus for an unknown period of time for his hit and run incident in Washington, DC?

Listen, I do not like Novak anymore than any of you but I think it is time to take this post down. The man has a brain tumor, so what is the point of keeping this up?

While the case is still under investigation, police believe Novak staged the accident to prove he is still an incoherent, black hearted piece of neo-con scum despite being well into his 80s. Local phone companies have turned over hours of phone transcripts and hundreds of emails that show the plot was hatched while searching for adult diapers at the nearby Walgreens. Sold out of the largest size needed to prevent his leaking, Mr. Novak reportedly called his close incontinent associate, Karl Rove, for advice. The transcript reveals that Mr. Rove instructed Novak "go run over some homeless f*ck" to send a message and help John McCain strengthen his conservative base. Following the lead of Dick Cheney's shooting victim, the man injured in the hit and run stunt has apologized for the pain and trouble he caused Mr. Novak.

In a new twist, the elderly Novak claims the man injured by his hit and run is actually Valerie Plame. Novak alleges that former CIA agent Plame used skills learned during her tenure as a covert operative to disguise herself as an elderly homeless man and faked the accident as part of a complex plot tarnish his reputation as a fair and balanced journalist.

...does that mean he shouldn't receive the protections that every other citizen does? No, it does not. However, the police in this instance do not appear to have done their jobs. However, there was at least one credible witness, and probably many more. Let's see whether the police handle this correctly from this point forward. Meanwhile, people, there's probably some karma at work here. Let's not be what we despise.

Hold him in a detention cell, then Taser his sorry neo-con ass until he loses consciousness, then let him lay there. He's only 78, after all. Punishment is never too late to teach obedience to the Supreme Lawlessness Of The Land.

Take away Novak's license, IMPOUND his car, inspect it thoroughly. He should not have been allowed to drive away in it, enabling him to have it washed and detailed to get rid of evidence of the hit and run. Circulate his photograph as someone who may well try to drive without a license or with a falsified license. This is not a man who believes the law applies to him.

Bob Novak, political media star and stalwart right-wing advocate of the Bush edict "everyone needs to be responsible for his or her own actions" was apparently not including himself in the bargain. Instead, Novak acted in predictable Bush-Republican fashion: quick, scrape the victim from your windshield and scurry away as fast as your little rat-like legs can manage. Or, as Leona Helmsley so aptly put it, "only the little people pay taxes".

I have not seen any mention of what should have been a mandatory test for drugs or alcohol after involvement in an accident involving injury or death. The police must have done one. What was the result? Why is the media not reporting it? It would be impossible for Novak not to have been aware of a pedestrian rolling over his hood. He obviously panicked and kept driving. At that point he was guilty of leaving the scene of an accident, failing to try to render aid or even calling the authorities for assistance. An average citizen would have been arrested. Why wasn't Novac? The fact that he committed treason in the Plame affair has nothing to do with this crime, but Novac should be tried in a court of proper jurisdiction and when found guilty should receive similar punishment to that which would be given to an average citizen for the same crime.

No matter what he thinks and says about how others should be treated, we the people should give him the benefit of our Constitutional protections all residents deserve, whether native born or immigrant. Maybe he will learn from this experience and wish to extent coverage to everyone in the future.

I'd like to say that Novak should be punished like the criminals he covers in Washington but that means he would just have to thumb his nose at the law and continue on without worry.

If Novak did nothing wrong he should be treated like the innocents that George W Bush has arrested, arrests Novak has defended. He should be snatched off the street, blindfolded, handcuffed, flown to an undisclosed third world country and held there for years. Once he arrives there he should be beaten, starved, tortured and sodomized. That's how George W Bush has treated hundreds of innocent people. If Novak really is innocent, he should take his punishment and shut up.

Just lock Novak in with a big hairy Biker, nicknamed "The Dickster" who has always "loved" hearing his former cell mates "squeal". Put him in for just two weeks. When he gets out he'll be a "changed man" and he won't have walk around fire hydrants either.

not cloud our judgment.
Novak deserves his legal rights, but he should have the book thrown at him for hit and run driving. It's hard to imagine how someone sober could hit a pedestrian in downtown Washington on a summer morning and NOT NOTICE! Does anyone know if the police took a blood sample for toxicology? If not, they are answerable to the public for not doing their jobs.

My heart goes out to Snoopy7 on the death of his son.
A few blocks from where I live a graduate student was killed on a bright spring morning by a semi turning right into a busy crosswalk. A complete description of that accident has not been made public but the driver did not know he hit someone and was flagged down by horrified pedestrians. I didn't know the young man but I think of him every time I cross that street.

Robert Novak was lucky he didn't kill anyone, but the pedestrians of Washington can hope he pays a big price for his carelessness and indifference.

he must be given the full protection of the Law. if you can waterboard him or hold him without charge then it is ok to do the same to you. be reasonable people. if you want to do something then go arrest bush/cheney. you have the legal right to do that. but don't be like them please.

My first reaction was yes and yes again; give him the works. Then I thought, "Why stoop to his and Dick Cheney's level." Finally, I remembered that he should have been tried all along for treason due to his involvement in the Valarie Plame affair. That is exactly what Novak deserves that treasonous bastard.

My son was hit and killed by someone driving a car June 1, 2008. The first thing done was an automatic blood test, of the driver, for future knowledge by the authorities. How he was not cited for Failure to stop and Render Aid is really scary. I guess if you have enough money you don't get penalized like the rest of the United States of America? This man had the victum roll up onto his hood. This is a Hit and Run he needs to see the inside of a jail cell or pay out of the Wazzuu for his crime. Snoopy7

Novak and his ilk, should all have a taste sooner or latter,of their eight years of Bush's advocated recipes, of violations of the rule of Law and Constitution. I am for equal treatment under the laws they helped to pass! They should be hunted and tried as the former Nazis!!!
