BuzzFlash Imitated by Chicago's MSM?

Here at BuzzFlash HQ in downtown Chicago, we've been suffering from déjà vu. And then, déjà vu all over again.

Harold Merrell, IT manager at BuzzFlash, produced a duo of online video pieces about Sen. Barack Obama's Chicago connections earlier this year. And it seems our audience may be growing.

Our video tour of Obama's neighborhood (Hyde Park in southern Chicago) was taped the last week in May and went up on BuzzFlash.com and YouTube last week. This Wednesday, the Chicago Tribune's Tempo section featured a tour of the same neighborhood. Their tour included the site on which Michelle and Barack shared their first kiss, a highlighted portion of the BuzzFlash video tour.

Also, the video portrait Merrell filmed of Obama's barber shop several months ago was quickly followed by a copy in the MSM. ABC 7 brought a film crew to Hyde Park Hair Salon days after BuzzFlash was there, when Merrell just happened to have stopped in with his son for a haircut.

"I asked the reporter if he had some sort of exclusive. I don't remember exactly what he said, but his answer was kind of vague," Merrell said of the encounter.

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery ...

"I guess you could say that," said Merrell. "I just wish that BuzzFlash would get a little recognition for doing the piece first."

If you can't get recognition, compensation would be nice.
