New Bush Iraq Plan Presented by Neocon Think-Tank Friday. Troop Boost will be "Long and Lasting," not a "Surge"

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) - the think-tank at the heart of the Neocon movement - held a presentation Friday on what should be the foundation of the new Iraq strategy President Bush is expected to unveil next week. Sens. Joe Lieberman and John McCain will also speak at the event on the topic.

Basically, this is the whole "surge" thing we've been hearing about. The only problem is that it is not a surge at all; it's a lengthy boost. Frederick Kagan and Jack Keane, the authors of the AEI report, actually wrote an article last month explaining that "any troop increase must be large and lasting" (a short surge, of course, would "play into the enemy's hands" and "virtually ensure defeat").

Looking deeper into the study, the Kagan/Keane strategy is not a plan to move forward so we can leave, it's a plan to start all over again from scratch. They actually advocate abandoning political development and Iraqi forces training to focus solely on what they call "clear and hold" by American forces of "critical terrain." Only then, they say, can we start thinking about transferring control to Iraqis.

Solely under this plan will the 3000+ American and countless Iraqi deaths thus far have been completely in vain. Worse, even more people will die. Even Kagan and Keane predict in their study "increasing casualties to levels higher than before the start of security operations" - and that's in response to the fourth and final phase of their approach! Ironically, they even use the word "surge" to describe the rise in deadly violence they predict by extremists in the other phases. Those looking for Vietnam comparisons will find the prediction of an insurgent "Tet Offensive" on page 31 of the draft report.

The insanity of Bush's acceptance of these ideas is that they are coming from the very people he listened to from the beginning that got us into this quagmire. After their predictable failure, nearly everyone else in the world - including even many conservative Republicans - knows we need to finally redeploy our combat forces. Yet Bush is giving the AEI Neocons a mulligan they sorely do not deserve and the voters resoundingly rejected last November.

DC street action

25th-27th?
Up here in New England we've heard 27th for the march/rally on the National Mall, 28th for lobbying training and 29th(mon) lobby every Senator and Rep. Organized by (among others) Code Pink.
Please clarify.
If you can't get to DC, organize a Pitchforks and Torches parade in your town or the next town over, that night. If nothing else, make noise, the silent vigils only got us so far.

Dumbya has lost any semblence of sanity, along with his credibility. The question is: how to dafang him before he and his toadies commit yet another (and maybe fatal) momumental FUBAR. Are the Democrats up to this task? Maybe, but I'm not holding my breath.

America,

You are ruled by madmen. Warmongers intent on escalating towards total war, not to mention starting brand new ones, nuclear wars since you have no more boots to put on the ground (you know... Iran).

Americans... Democrats... What are you going to do about it?

Look at all the cabinet / brass changes... These are signs of full speed ahead disaster coming. Just like the tsunami, the water is receding, and you just stand there in disbelief... soon to be wiped out... Not knowing much what to do.

But deep down, you do know... What are you going to do about it?

The time for sterile blogging, bitching and yakking is over.

Now is the time for ACTION: resistance, for hanging those deserving to be hung, for general strikes, for taking the streets, for armed insurrection, by any and all means.

Do you really believe the israel lobby beholden democrats are gonna stand against any of this?

They won't even utilize their power of the purse, much less impeach.

Do you really believe that the democrats won anything or could it be that those who rig elections need to have the democrats supposedly in charge when the shit hits the fan and bush rides roughshod over them?

When will you awake and contemplate the true nature of the beast you have spawned?

America, your political leadership, as jubilant over nothing as it may be, has, in effect, abandoned you.

The fate of the world is in your hands. You, the lonely individual, or the pack of buddies animated by a true love of the principles enshrined in your US Constitution, or whole neighborhoods, or angry mobs... Do something! ANYTHING ! NOW !

Very soon it will be too late and, if you're still alive, you will be asked, why did you sit idle when you knew what was coming? What will you answer? How will you ever be able to look at yourself in the mirror ever again?

Peak oil is a reality. You can't do anything about supply. But you can reduce demand. That means you. To kill you. You kill half of the world and the peak oil deadline is pushed back another 20 years. Do you really put it past these people to kill half of the world without even flinching?

Very soon... an awful event (another false flag black op) will occur, and everything will accelerate totally out of control... Just like a tsunami. By then it will be too late.

For God's sake and in the name of the great men who were who you call your founding fathers, please do something. Do it now!

Bush Provided Draft of AEI Plan on December 14, 2006

According to the AEI web site on December 14, 2006, their representatives, “presented a new AEI report, Choosing Victory: A Plan for Success in Iraq, which explains how Baghdad and other critical areas can be secured and held with an increase in combat troops and describes the perilous consequences of failure. The interim report (to be followed by a full report in January) further recommends increasing the size of the U.S. Army and Marine Corps to meet the demands of the War on Terror — a goal that President Bush announced yesterday would be part of his agenda.” These neocons are convinced they have the only answer to the middle east, and President Bush is of like mind.

You are right, the AEI plan is, "the foundation of the new Iraq strategy President Bush is expected to unveil next week."
