Save the Date: BuzzFlash Conference in Philly on Sat. Sept 27. "Uniting Progressives and the Working Class"

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

Are the progressive netroots sometimes an echo chamber of one wing of the Democratic Party talking to themselves?

Yes, and BuzzFlash is one of the guilty parties.

That's why, based on the initiative of BuzzFlash posters on BuzzFlash.net, BuzzFlash is hosting, along with other co-sponsors whom we will be announcing, a day long conference in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 27th, at the Philadelphia Convention Center.

Appropriately, the conference is titled: ""Bridging the Gap Between Progressives and the Working Class: A Dialog on Common Values."

We are proud to announce that among our speakers will be Richard Trumka, second in charge of the AFL-CIO and former head of the United Mine Workers.  You can see his electrifying presence in this speech to union members.

Online registration will open shortly on BuzzFlash and through co-sponsor sites.  The cost will be $45.00, with a half-price discount for union members.  (Talk to us if you are unemployed and unable to pay for the registration. In order to keep the costs low, attendees will be on their own for food and coffee.)

This is meant to be the first in a series of conferences to try and find common ground between the two wings of the Democratic Party that developed a schism in the '60s.  Our goal is not aimed directly at any given election, but more at a longer term healing process of finding ongoing consensus where progressivism, populism, and economic parity meet.

But first we need to begin to understand our mutual needs.

We'll be announcing more speakers and co-sponsors in the coming weeks.  Did we mention that Joe Bageant, author of "Deer Hunting with Jesus: Dispatches from America's Class War," will be speaking at the conference?

Well, we don't want to let too many cats out of the bag today, so we'll hold off revealing more of program.

But save Saturday, September 27th if you're interested in working to unify progressive, populist, and working class goals: finding common ground.

Stay tuned.  If you have any questions at this time, e-mail buzzflash@buzzflash.com.

Otherwise, see you in Philly!

Grow up.

let me call tha Waaaahmbulance yman. yer candidate didnt win. if you hate buzzflash so much why do you even bother posting? would you like some cheese with your whine?

"Cheese with your whine"?

"Waaaaaahmbulance"?

That's so funny. Can I use them? They're so ............ creative ........ original.

BTW - My candidate was John Edwards. Why bother posting? Same reason you responded to my post. Plus, BF used to be a favorite site. Now it's just sort of fun to watch their feeble, endless, fundraising pleas fall short every month. A little, daily "pick me up" .......... like a great song or a funny cartoon.

Hahahahahahahahahaha ......

ROFLMAO!!!!

Six months trashing half the Democratic party as race-baiting, ignorant evil racists, and you're sponsoring a conference on Democratic unity. I LOVE it!!!!!!

Wait ..............

You're serious ??????????

You're serious????????????

I think it's a brilliant idea. Obviously, so a some well known writers, bloggers, labor leaders and activists who plan to speak. The whole buzzflash community shouls attend.

Dead serious

Sure, it's a good idea, but Buzzflash sponsoring a conference on Democratic unity?

Might as well have Rush Limbaugh sponsor a conference on the importance of bipartisanship.

Dead serious

Au contraire, Yman. BUZZFLASH apparently recognizes the sources of disunity, and is committed to addressing them and educating us on how to resolve them. What a brilliant idea!

BF "apparently..."

... recognizes the sources of disunity"? Really? What, praytell, would give you any indication of that? The mere fact that they're sponsoring a conference? Ann Coulter could sponsor a conference on the importance of civil debate in society ...... doesn't mean she knows jack about it. Maybe Cheney could do a conference on the importance of open government ........... oooooohhhh ........... how 'bout gun safety?

Buzzflash can "educate us" on how to become unified? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Speak for yourself. After trashing half the Dems for the past few months, they now want to unify ................ shocker.

BF has zero credibility with half the Dems, and much of its former readership. Seen those fundraising totals lately?

It's not a coincidence.

BF apparently.....

Have you seen the names of the two speakers listed in the article today? I suspect that there are many others. Regardless of what you think of past positions of BF, this conference is a brilliant idea. I would attend just to hear those two speakers, who know something about the issues. I can't wait to see the names of the other speakers.

I would hope there will be more than two speakers

Otherwise, it wouldn't be a conference ........ it would called a lunch meeting.

Again, the point is BuzzFlash (aka Mark) calling for everyone to hop on board the unity bus (after throwing half the Democrats under it) is a joke. Discussing the value of a healthy diet and exercise is a good idea, but Rush Limbaugh trying to lead the discussion is a joke.

I would hope there will be more than two speakers

I'm sure there will be more than two speakers. The article said, "We'll be announcing more speakers and co-sponsors in the coming weeks."

Sarcasm

I was responding to your "Have you seen the names of the two speakers listed in the article today? I suspect that there are many others." Of course there will be more than two speakers.

Once again, BF hosting the conference is a joke.

What an absolutely billiant idea! The theme of your conference is a real issue that can make or break progressive candidates in any and all elections. The timing is perfect.

It's great to see Buzzflash making it to the big time! Those are some impressive speakers you have there. I can't wait to read about the others!
