T. Boone Pickens' Energy Independence Push -- Boone-doggle or Solution?

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT
by Christine Bowman

T. Boone Pickens is a conservative Texas oil billionaire who, today, is launching an initiative to promote a national push for energy independence by developing "cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources." We saw the first ad he aired on national tv early Tuesday morning on MSNBC.

Pickens says he's not doing this to make money. He is, however, a big wind farm investor. He is zeroing in on wind farms as the key resource for generating electricity and on natural gas as the prime resource to develop for use in vehicles.

Skeptics abound.

But the other possibility is that Pickens wants to be the conservatives' answer to Al Gore -- in other words, a private citizen who can mobilize public sentiment to achieve a huge public good.

This is a developing story. Pickens hopes to influence everyday Americans and the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates on the energy issue. Here's his presentation summarizing his plan:

TRUST this man?

He's a lying SOB, willing to spend millions to insure he gets billions. He's got the right idea, but I don't trust him. He plays dirty. How can we make noise so the American public knows who he really is and what he really did?? Once again, we ask, "WHERE IS THE MEDIA?" PS - On another topic - why aren't we hearing questions raised about VOTING MACHINES? Does anyone remember? Does anyone care? Is anyone worried? Where is the noise?

Pickens is plannin on pickin' our pockets

Yes, lets get that wind going to produce energy to heat the oil in shale so that it separates nicely and can then be pumped to the surface with the same wind power. Nice try T. Boone. When Freedom is constrained, so too is Creativity, therefore, there is little Progress.

Good ole' boy Pickens just wants to help. Bullshit!

Pickens and his partner Harold Simmons are the original corporate raiders. In the 1980s they started the wave of hostile takeovers where they bought controlling interest in companies, stripped them and sold off the parts for high profits. They are ruthless bastards. Many people lost their jobs and were displaced by these assholes. Altruism is not their strong suit.

This is a JOKE, Right?

T. Boone Pickens, the moneyman behind the evil "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" (HAH!), wants to help anybody not named "T. Boone Pickens"?

He just wants a big influx of Gubmint money so he can show a profit on his "wind farms"....

What's on T-Boone's mind?

Tonight on one of the TV network news shows, NBC or ABC but who cares, there was a feature story about how T-Boone is building the largest windfarm in the nation in the Texas panhandle. There was T-Boone himself saying he's 80 years old and has four Billion dollars, so he's not in this to get rich. What puzzles me is that only a week or so ago I read a news article somewhere that quoted him as saying he intends this windfarm to do a lot of good for a lot of people, and that he expects to make a whole lot of money off of it in the process. Gee whiz...

Water should not be owned

To own water rights is, in a dry land, to own life and death. Nobody should ever have that. About oil in shale. It requires huge quantities of water to separate the oil from the shale. Extracting oil from shale, oil from sand, uranium from the earth and so on despoils the land, often beyond redemption, and destroys the supporting ecosystems. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Give the man credit where credit is due. But don't trust Pickens or any of his ilk to dictate. Pat Williams

I imagine he's positioning

I imagine he's positioning his company to benefit from the new and huge natural gas finds all over Texas, Arkansas and the Permian Basin (Barnett and Haynesville formations).

The natural gas reserves he mentions are considered some of the biggest new finds in a long time. (Note, it is NOT an oil find as another poster indicates....) Whole neighborhoods all around Dallas and Fort Worth have been leased and natural gas production has been surprisingly quick. At least natural gas burns cleaner than gasoline.

(Btw, if anyone is seriously interested in the technology used to recover these previously inaccessible natural gas reserves, Google it ... these finds and the new recovery technology are being discussed in lots of energy pubs and Chesapeake Energy holds most of the big leases. It's incredibly easy to find.)

I'd still rather see us go to renewable non-fossil fuels like solar, wind and water, but if in the interim it makes us less reliant on OPEC and takes away some of the incentive to be in the Middle East, good deal.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like the guy at all. But this idea seems like it might help drive oil prices back down. And it sure won't hurt my feelings if we see some real moves toward wind power too. This guy is in it for the money, absolutely no question. And he's not altruistic, it's all about profit. But no one is going to invest in clean energy alternatives that is not in it for profit.

I did run across this Business Week article -- Mr. Pickens is trying to get invested in all the alternatives that will replace oil. He's apparently also a water rights tycoon. Business Week article
If water is the new oil, T. Boone Pickens is a modern-day John D. Rockefeller. Pickens owns more water than any other individual in the U.S. and is looking to control even more.
The article indicates Pickens is investing in most of the alternative energy means, including natural gas, solar, wind, and water and that he's in it for the profit. No big surprise there.

Until this shyster pays up the $1,000,000.00 he owes

the army vets that proved the swift-boat scum's accusations against John Kerry totally false then T. Boone is an honored part of the hypocrisy we call the right-neck pecksniffians.
