Is the Drive to Replace Trent Lott as the Next Majority Leader Coming from the White House?

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS

Is BuzzFlash crazy? Hardly.

Linda Chavez, Cal Thomas, Kathleen Parker, Thomas Sowell and Charles Krauthammer (go to www.townhall.com and look in the columnists section) are among the right wing columnists calling for Lott not to serve as majority leader. When right wing columnists start writing in unison for a Republican to step down, you know that Karl Rove has got a knife in the guy's back. As we know, the right wing media machine defends any member of the Grand Hypocrisy Party -- for whatever transgression -- in a knee-jerk fashion. They would even make up excuses if Dick Cheney were found in bed with "a dead woman or a live boy," as the saying goes.

So why are right wing media figures telling the Mississippi Mop Head to exit stage right? It isn't due to an outcry from the Senate Democrats, asleep at the wheel as usual. (See http://www.buzzflash.com/editorial/2002/12/11.html) Except for Al Gore and the Congressional Black Caucus, the Democrats, led by Daschle, are playing their usual game of pretty much "seeing no Evil." (Kerry made a late entry bid to criticize Lott.) But the right wing "amen chorus" of columnists doesn't take their cues from Al Gore.

So if BuzzFlash's hypothesis is right, why is Karl Rove trying to toss Lott overboard?

- The White House wants a Senate majority leader who appeals to the neo-confederacy vote, but with a slicker style. In short, they want the kind of guy cut in the George W. Bush style.

- The White House thinks that Lott has too high a profile.

- For all his fierce loyalty to the White House, Lott actually cut some deals with Daschle that the White House didn't like. The White House wants a complete and total Bush Cartel team player. They want, in essence, an ideological puppet -- and a puppet who mimics the George W. Bush style of appearing amiable while implementing extreme right wing policies.

- Lott has become a political liability.

So call us conspiratorial. But if you think that this story has stayed alive because the press has suddenly become interested in civil rights rather than $75 dollar haircuts....Well, if you think that, you're just whistling Dixie.

A BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS

* * *

BUZZFLASH NOTE: It was droll to see at least two of the right wing White House "amen choir" of columnists claiming that Trent Lott might be a Democratic mole!

Kathleen Parker argued, "No, no, I stick by my original theory. He's [Lott's] a Democrat, a plant programmed to say extraordinarily stupid things in order to burst the Republican Party's post-election bubble and provide the reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton a full deck of race cards to play until kingdom come. There can't be any other explanation."

Cal Thomas said, "Trent Lott might as well be a Democratic Party mole, placed among Republicans to cause his party severe political damage."

BuzzFlash told you the paid right wing shills get their talking points from Karl Rove, along with their breakfast muffins.
