Many of you have e-mailed me about the attacks on Halliburton that
have appeared in the media recently. I want to thank you for your expressions
of support and concern. We can’t help taking it personally when we
are being unfairly criticized from political motives -- especially
when our fellow employees are facing danger and hardship in the Middle
East every day.
Some of you have asked what we are doing to get the facts out and
to defend our Company. Here is a brief report on our activities:
1) We held a conference call Wednesday with analysts, investors and
the media to give our side of the story.
2) We have sent out a number of press releases defending the Company
and correcting the numerous misstatements of fact. You can read all
the releases at http://www.halliburton.com/news/.
3) We have aggressively gone on U.S. television and radio news programs
to state the facts and defend the Company against the accusations.

Doing “live” television with a hostile interviewer is a challenge.
I want to single out and commend [Halliburton spokesperson] for more
than carrying the load with me in doing the television appearances
and I also want to thank [Halliburton PR person] for setting up the
appearances and helping us prepare. They are both doing a fantastic
job.
4) We are running an advertisement in the top 25 U.S. markets and
are looking at placing it in select international markets. [Deletion

As I have said before, this is not about Halliburton, it’s about politics.
I believe we are in for a long hard battle because of the election
year ahead. Don’t expect these attacks to end soon. But I want to assure
you we will continue to defend our fellow employees and the good name
of our Company.
