Did Marvin Bush Call Dale Petroskey and Ask Him to Cancel the "Bull Durham" Event at the Hall of Fame to Get Back at Two People Who Criticized King Bush? (Before
reading this expose on the head of the National Baseball Hall of
Fame, read A BUZZFLASH BREAKING NEWS ANALYSIS Fourth in a Series on the Partisan Scandal at the National Baseball Hall of Fame Do we know if Marvin Bush, the president's brother, called Dale Petroskey, President of the Hall, and asked him to cancel the Cooperstown "Bull Durham" celebration to get back at two people who criticized King Bush? No, BuzzFlash can't say for sure. But doing some research, we found this paragraph of interest from a March 24, 2001, "National Journal" article:
Ah, yes, coincidences of coincidences. Dale Petroskey, who just a few weeks before a long-scheduled special Hall of Fame event squashed it like a bug -- and broadcast his disdain for Sarandon and Robbins to the Associated Press -- just happens to be a close friend of Marvin Bush (not to mention a history of being a Republican political operative). But that personal/political relationship never entered into his decision, right? Just as the fact that more than one National Baseball Hall of Fame board member has close ties to the Bush administration doesn't enter into the board's support for Petroskey's Un-American, anti-free speech dictatorial action? None of these facts would have anything to do with an effort to make America's Baseball Hall of Fame into a Republican Baseball Hall of Fame, would it? I mean Marvin Bush would never call Petroskey and say something like: "Listen Dale, my brother's pretty steamed about those Hollywood actors Sarandon and Robbins coming up to Cooperstown and popping their mouths off about the President. You know, he'll go through the roof if they start their leftist trash talk at that "Bull Durham" thing you got scheduled -- what with George's connection to the Rangers and all. I'm not telling you what to do, but sometimes it's just better to make things disappear. And by the way, I talked to Karl Rove, and he said don't be shy about letting the press know about what your patriotic position about all of this is. Send your letter to those two Hollywood nitwits to the Associated Press. Okay, Dale?" No, such a conversation would never happen. BuzzFlash would be shocked to learn if any such words were exchanged -- truly shocked! No, that kind of stuff would never happen among people who care about Democracy, would it? Of course, we are not talking about people who care about democracy, are we? Otherwise, the "Bull Durham" event would never have been canceled.
