The Republican National Committee joins the nation in honoring the
life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King exemplified
the best of America and remains an inspiration to us all. The following
is a statement released today by Chairman Racicot:
Marc Racicot, Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC),
today released the following statement as Americans across the country
honor the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Almost
four decades after his tragic death, Dr. Martin Luther King remains
a national hero and champion for the principles of fairness
and equal opportunity. Dr. King's life, exemplified by his faith, courage
of conviction and nonviolent philosophy, is a source of inspiration
for all Americans.
"Our
country is indebted to him for his tireless work on behalf of the
civil rights movement. His vision of a colorblind nation is
a pillar of our society. Under the leadership of President George W.
Bush, the Republican Party remains committed to empowering all Americans
by affording equal access to a good education, economic opportunity,
and the promise of a stronger and safer country.
"I
join the rest of the nation in honoring this great American. I call
upon my fellow citizens to answer Dr. King's call to service,
and to uphold his values and teachings everyday of the year."
